READING, TEXAS

reading, texas is not your average small community type town at all. it may seem like it on the outside, but only a select few know of the town's real history and origins. it has secrets that people on this planet would never believe, let alone the small population of reading. although, some students at the local fine arts school, hallow's creek, are beginning to believe in the ghost stories. just last week another student was sent to the emergency room for being thrown off her bed in the middle of the night when she was the only one in her room. and the police knew she was thrown because her blood was on the opposite wall. and just the other day a boy heard a girl scream in a cabin, but when he opened the door to help her, no one was there and his friend happened to be a film major and record the entire scene from the scream itself. things just keep getting spookier and spookier all the time here, and some loyal citizens of the village aren't liking it one bit. the old indian relatives down in willowing hills are even beginning to get riled up, and they aren't to be messed with.
is it true, that the tale of hallow's creek is coming true? are peter hallows' sisters really haunting hallow's creek? and why is this recent news from the school being linked to killings in houston? surely the students cannot be doing this, right? there is only one sure fire way to know. see it for yourself.
welcome to reading, home of hallow's creek.

HERE'S THE LAST MAN STANDING STEP RIGHT UP HE'S THE REAL THING the last chance of a life time i don't know where it's going, we all know where it's been |
With a half smile on his face, Sergei closed his computer, having exited out of each program he had been logged into, not planning on using them for some time. He placed his computer in his locked drawer and slipped the key into his pocket. Sure, someone could have easily broken the drawer or picked the lock, but he liked to think that the object was safe in there. And there wasn't much actually on the computer. Most of his important stuff was on his work computer, and that place was locked down like a safe. He was confident that the thing was protected there. And even then, those things weren't his super important things. Those files were on a flash drive that was constantly in one of his pockets (he changed the pocket every now and then, just in case). Not to mention the fact he generally kept more than one flash drive, so guessing and checking couldn't have worked there. No, you probably had to be some kind of mind reader to know exactly which pocket and which flash drive. And if you didn't know or didn't randomly grab one, well, then you'd be in for a surprise. At least that's what he liked to think. He could move rather swiftly, even for an ancient human being. He muttered something to himself about 'stupid kids', and then stood up, pushing in his chair after he did so.
He stood for a moment, contemplating what he had just said. Surely after a couple hundred years Damian could be a sometimes skilled driver... it was just when he was trying to impress someone or trying to find an adrenaline rush that he wasn't so safe. Perhaps it would be safer to walk, but he had already promise the kid that he'd let him drive. He just felt bad for the One-77. It was a nice car, and he certainly didn't want to see it ruined, especially not with him in it. Sure, the car was replaceable, and it wasn't like he could die from a simple care crash, but the car was beautiful. There weren't many things in life that he could consider in the same light as the car, though there were a few. And he didn't even consider himself materialistic. Sure, the car was expensive and nice, but it was his car. That had to account for something, right? Of course it did. He pocketed his car keys and left his study, locking the door behind him before making his way down the hall, down the stairs, and into the kitchen. He hadn't run into anyone on his way down there, and he hadn't run into anyone there. So he picked up a napkin from the table and scribbled on it in pen before actually writing his message--'Gone out real fast with Damian, be back later. not sure when. don't wait around for me'--and pinning it to the refrigerator with a magnet. It all seemed so normal American family-like. The only problem was it wasn't, though he never saw it as a problem. They generally looked like a family, and that was the only thing that mattered.
Assuming the boy would already be in the garage but not exactly knowing, he grabbed his sunglasses from the table and walked out of the front door, not bothering to lock it behind him. He made his way to the garage and slowly removed the keys from his pocket, as though he didn't want to let go of them. With a sigh he unlocked the car door and slid into the passenger seat, almost apologizing to the car in advance as he did so. He leaned over and put the keys in the ignition, not yet turning them. He tried to relax in the seat as he buckled up--making sure the buckle was nice and safe--and put on his sunglasses, staring out the front window the car with a very stoic expression. He spoke with a level tone, though h was obviously slightly distressed. "If you destroy this car. I will destroy your life. Starting with your cute friend." He wouldn't actually kill her, but he could certainly drive a stake between the two. He had his ways, of course. He returned to the stoic being that he was and pressed his right hand against his thigh. Wasn't this every parent's worst nightmare? Driving with their children? He most certainly thought so.

Field trip! Damian grinned as he read the following replies from his 'father' and 'uncle' but logged off without responding. Psshhh, him? Untrustworthy? he was hurt, really. and besides, that buggy crash had not been his fault. The other guy had been drunk and had crashed into the back of his buggy going ninety on a fifty miles per hour highway. Vampire athleticism was enough to save him, but unfortunately, he couldn't transfer those powers over to his car, and the buggy had crashed and burned. Damian huffed in annoyance at the memory. As much as he had complained about it when Sergei had first presented it to him, practically as a joke, he really had grown quite attached to that buggy. Even if it was bright pink. What was with Sergei and his impression that Damian liked bright pink? Maybe it was something to do with the memory way back that one time in France when half the ladies around somewhere insisted he wear a pink suit, tails and all . . . Damian sighed. Yeah, that was probably it. Hey, he had looked damn good in that suit.
Humming, Damian gently shut the lid of his laptop, watching the lights blink once or twice before quietly fading. As the fan's whirring faded as well, he unplugged the power cable and turned off his speaker system. There was no need to for him to place the laptop anywhere. Somewhere else in the castle, Damian knew Sergei was doing little things to create a veil of safety for his information --- he was polite, but curiosity about his father figure had pushed through that barrier more than once --- but he never bothered with those things. On the outside, Damian was a spoiled brat, constantly asking Sergei for money for everything, but he hadn't been lying when he said he had his own fortune stashed away. Gold from the seventeen hundreds was worth much more these days, and he hadn't been exactly idle these past centuries. While he had never explicitly told Sergei about all those things, he had no doubt that Sergei knew of at least some, if not all of them. But all that information was stored with all sorts of safes and storage accounts across the world. Not to mention quite a few investments of real estate. Nothing compared to Sergei's, but enough that if Damian ever struck out on his own, he'd be more than happy for the rest of his very long lifespan.
Grabbing a jacket to swing over his shirt, Damian patted his pockets. Wallet, iphone, housekeys . . . that was everything. Sergei would have the car keys. Damian smirked. The slower of them? Yeah right. He had to know which one Damian would go for. Without further ado, Damian rushed down the steps and into the garage, heading straight to the Aston Martin one 77. Now this was a thing of beauty. Only seventy-seven produced, and half of them not even sold yet, the one 77 was one of the rarest cars in the world, and Sergei had gotten a bill to match. Damian admired its sleek visage for a bit but jumped into the driver's seat fiarly quickly, and waited. Before long, another body had seated itself into the car and a key had been inserted into the ignition. Damian grinned at Sergei's words and responded instead with a cheery comment as he backed out of the garage and started driving away from the house, "Y'know, there's a new Porsche out, specially designed by Anna Bizer --- she sells tuning packages for Porsche and Bentley --- this new one came out with her name. The Anna Bizer Porsche 997 Turbo Lightning."
Damian turned briefly to grin at Sergei, "It's almost as beautiful was your baby here. Acura also has a concept car out --- the Acura Advanced. That one's pretty sweet too." Slowly, Damian drove through the woods, away from Hallow's Castle. Pulling onto a main street, he grinned --- and hit the accelerator. A frsh burst of speed was beautiful to behold, but Damian slowed down before Sergei could yell at him too, and proceeded to continue driving at a more appropriate speed. He was humming away. Pestering his 'father' on aim, flirting with a cute girl, and driving the one 77 --- good day.

 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -I've been awake for a while nowyou've got me feelin like a child now "ROMEO! ITS ALMOST DARK OUT!" The loud, always cheerful voice rang through the house as the man closed his laptop after the conversation with his best friend and 'nephew'. At least he wouldn't have to hide her anymore. Looking up at his doorway, he watched as the tiny form of his little sister came in, her bright blue eyes sparkling and her hair bouncing as she flew onto his bed, perching onto the edge and looking up at him. She crossed her legs, resting her hands on her pale knees and watched as he finished closing down the laptop. "Did you hear me? Its almost dark! We can go out! Or, well.. We can go out together" She said, still excited as she grinned at him. He would never get tired of that girl, always bouncing around and getting into trouble. Well, whatever trouble she could. But you know, it was hard to do when confined to a house for daylight hours. But, no matter. That would, hopefully, change. Biting his lip, he watched as his sister cocked her head, sitting up on her knees and playing with his face. "Say something! I don't like you being quiet. Its creepy. And makes me think of things you might do to me" She joked, grinning slightly at him. He just shook his head, laughing quietly and batting her hands away.
"Oh, hush. I'm not going to do anything. But we're not going out as soon as the sun sets tonight. We're having people over for a little while" He said in reply to his little sister, then looked over her outfit. Of course, she was wearing almost nothing, which wasn't surprising, but she'd have to change before Damian and.. Well, before Damian got here. He stood, throwing her over his shoulder and walking out of the room, heading down the hall and pushing open her bedroom door. He dropped her down on her bed, standing there with his arms crossed. "Can you put some clothes on, my little Butterfly? I'd rather not have to peel Damian off you" Romeo said, rolling his soft brown eyes, that were just turning gold. He laughed as Kylie pouted at him, crossing her arms over her chest. "I like my clothes, thank you very much. They fit me well" She said stubbornly, but slid off the bed and headed towards her dresser, picking out a pair of jeans and sweatshirt, throwing them on over her other clothes, then turning and holding her arms out. "Happy? I'm wearing clothes" She said, the frown still on her face. Romeo grinned, then walked out of the room, laughing quietly and shaking his head.
His eyes kept flicking towards the window, every few moments, waiting for one of Sergei's cars to appear. He hoped that Kylie would be accepted. That he could have the protection of the coven over her. It didn't matter that he was in it. The only reason he was would happen to the the coven's head. Sergei and him went way back. Rubbing a hand over his face, he let out a slow breath, shaking his head. Romeo just hoped this would go over well. Raising his head, he watched Kylie run into the room, landing on the chaise that was pressed up against the window-wall. She peaked out the curtain, grinning as no sunlight came in. "So, who's coming over?" She asked, not looking towards her brother as she asked the question, her eyes searching outside, picking out every detail that came. The rustle in the trees, the swirling of the leaves as the wind picked them up. When Romeo didn't answer, she, pulled back, seeing him sitting there with his eyes covered with one of his hands. Her brow furrowed as she climbed off the bench, going over and climbing onto her older brother's lap. His arms wound themselves around her tiny waist as he gave her a hug.
"A couple of friends, that will, hopefully help me. Well, at least one of them." Romeo said, shrugging lightly as he kept his arms around her. But she bounded off as lights flashed across the window, making her spring off him and rush towards the window. Romeo whimpered after, Kylie having hit a very sensitive part of his body. She turned towards him, her brow furrowing with concern before it was replaced with her excitement. "Oh my gosh! What pretty car!" And that was her only response to it. Nothing about the people inside. Just the pretty car. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - STATUS done TAGGED damian & sergei USING kylie & romeo WORDS 750 NOTES oh, this will be interesting.

HERE'S THE LAST MAN STANDING STEP RIGHT UP HE'S THE REAL THING the last chance of a life time i don't know where it's going, we all know where it's been |
Grimacing as the engine sprung to life, Sergei once more checked his seat belt, making sure it was still secure. This wasn't exactly the highlight of his life, sitting in the passenger seat where he held very little to no control over his surroundings. And he liked that. He liked the control, rather, the ability he had to maneuver the situation and make the best of it to his own ability without being put in harms way by some inexperienced person. And sure, Damian could be six thousand years old and he would have lived a long time, but even then Sergei wouldn't have completely left his life in the boy's hands. Things like that left him vulnerable. He could trust other people to an extent, but when it came down to what he wanted to do, he had to do it. It was just the way things were, the way they had been since, well, since he could remember. And, contrary to what his 'son' thought, he could remember a lot of things. He was far from stupid. He didn't earn his position based on a patronage system, no, it was all merit and fate--though he couldn't bring himself around to believe in fate. He would have ignored the boy had he not been trapped inside of a car with him. And it wasn't like he could claim he didn't hear anything, for he most certainly did. "We'll talk about it. Later. Not now. Focus on the road" Generally when a parent said that the answer was 'no', and he couldn't see himself talking about that anywhere in the future.
With a small sigh he listened to the boy talk, not really taking any of it into consideration. Everything was going through one ear and out of the other. He scolded himself mentally for acting like a teenager, the whole 'pretending to listen but not really hearing' business was something Damian would probably do. Perhaps we're more related than I originally thought. After years he couldn't find the connection between the two families. One was strictly from Russia and the other family was a British family. Perhaps there had been something way back in the very beginning of time, what with cavemen and all, but as far as he was concerned he hadn't found anything. In fact he probably never would. Sure, creatures could be old, but he hadn't found a caveman yet. Wouldn't that be interesting. It'd be like a walking Geico commercial. Geico could save you tons of money on car insurance. He held back another sigh and a shake of his head. yeah right. He fell into a silence at that point, forgetting that Damian could practically read his mind. Perhaps that wasn't a good thing, though it held up nicely in certain situations.
He glanced warily at the boy, almost cautious of him for a moment, before returning his gaze to face the road, prepared to warn him of any potential dangers. Relaxing slightly against the seat, he grinned ever so slightly. "Push it to 80. There's no one here." Telling him to push the vehicle to 80 was almost like handing him free reigns. Perhaps it was a test of faith, but perhaps not. He appeared to be relaxed, though he was far from it. He honestly hoped this kid was as good behind the wheel as he said he was. Besides, a back road that no one was likely to be on for a little while? The cops didn't bother if you were over a certain speed, knowing they probably couldn't catch you, and so far he hadn't seen any cops. There was a radar on the dashboard, which would come in hand if there was one, but it was void of everything. So he closed his eyes, completely oblivious to all speed and everything, almost like one that flinched away from something thrown at them. The car is always replaceable, Sergei... Of course it was... Though it was a rather special car... He tried to not let it get to him. So far that was only half working.
Eventually they slowed to a crawl in the driveway of the home they were looking for, and Sergei waited until the engine was off to unbuckle his seat belt and open his door, stepping out into the drive. He looked around suspiciously, warily, completely aware of everything around him. "This is business. Do you understand me?" He had better understand that. He walked to the door slowly, almost casually, as though he were going to watch a football game and have a drink. But what they were actually doing was far from that, and he knew that. Eventually he got to the door and raised his hand to knock, though he waited for Damian before doing so. Once, twice, three times...

Push it to eighty, the old man had said. Sometimes, his not-father was just like him in ways that were scary to think about. "As the king commands," Damian murmured as he pushed it to eighty, knowing that Sergei could hear him. Not that there was much time for it to be at eighty. Damian had intentionally driven it slightly slower just so he could keep driving longer, but hey, the entire point of driving a one-77 was to feel the smooth speed of the ride, so why not? The trees sped by in a dizzying blur, and the inconsistencies of the asphalt below were reduced to a single grey as they all mixed together, the dashed yellow line becoming a single yellow line that flickered strangely. He almost wished the car was a convertible --- although he generally disliked convertibles because they were irritating to take care of and such --- just so he could feel the wind whip through his hair and feel the heady rush of boyish adrenaline as he bid his magic carpet go forth. Driving awesome sports cars wicked fast was better than sex.
As Damian drove the car into the East End of Willowing Hills, he slowed. Flickering glances out of his windows --- tinted, of course, nothing less for Sergei Igorovich Victrola --- showed him the occasional Willowing Hills resident walking down the sidewalks, most of them staring at the one-77 for at least a little bit. Damian smirked. Yes, he was a bit of an attention whore, but hey, when it came to flashy sports cars, everyone was a bit of an attention whore. If you weren't one, you probably wouldn't have gotten the sports car in the first place. Which put an interesting new spin to Sergei. Distracted from the attentive stares of the humans, Damian pondered the idea of Sergei being like one of those strange people who posted millions of pictures of themselves on some online medium. He stopped fairly quickly. The concept made his head hurt.
Romeo's house wasn't huge. Then again, most of the houses around here weren't. It was simply a regular house with a regular driveway and a regular front porch and a regular mailbox and, well, everything that Hallow's old castle wasn't. Damian rather liked living in the castle though --- it rather reminded him of bygone days at court, at the Buckingham Palace in London. Those had been extravagant balls, huge feasts, so many gowns and ruffles and fashionable clothing. Damian would never admit it, but he kind of missed the fashion of back then. It had been fun. Like a masquerade ball every day. There was an idea to submit to the school for an event. A masquerade ball. Elizabethan style. He would love to help. He'd lived through it after all. And they could ---
Er, anyways. Romeo. House. Driveway. Parking. Right. That thing.
As they got out of the car, Damian did a scan for any mental presence that were perhaps uninvited guests. Nothing turned up beyond Sergei, two conscious's within the house, and smattering of human minds further away. They were cleared. As usual. Damian sighed to himself. He almost --- almost! not actually! --- wished something would happen for some excitement value, but the one-77 was enough for the day. Take what you can get and don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Good life lessons. Sergei was doing the same. Surveying the area, that is, not repeating inane phrases to himself. Sergei was always surveying the area though. He never let himself rest. It would be almost concerning, 'cept that he had been doing it for even longer than Damian, and Damian did the same. Workaholics, both of them. Maybe they were related . . .
Business? Yes, he knew it was business. Damian frowned. They would have to work on this trust issue thing. This was hardly the first time Damian had accompanied Sergei on 'business' and he had always had good judgment regardless of crisis. That's why he was still taken on such trips. At least, he assumed that was why. A quick mind read would confirm it, but Damian didn't want to delve that far into Sergei's realm of privacy. But still. This trust thing. Le sigh. He bounded up to where Sergei waited, standing just behind his 'father' as he knocked on the door.

 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -I've been awake for a while nowyou've got me feelin like a child now
Kylie's eyes watched as the door opened, exposing the two men as they got out. She knew one of them, remembered him from before, right when her brother was changed, but the other she didn't know. She watched as they approached the door, eyes never leaving. So these were the visitors? Why were they coming over now? It wasn't like Romeo had talked about them at all. Biting down on her lip, she turned to speak to her brother, but he was gone. Her head cocking to the side, she turned as the door was knocked on. Bounding up, she raced through the house, stumbling into her older brother as he appeared out. He looked down at his sister, ruffling her hair. "You are always excited, aren't you?" He asked with a chuckle, then shook his head, walking around her and opening the door, a smirk on his features as he backed up, giving both men room to walk in. "Greetings, gentlemen. I'm glad you could come out." Romeo said, inclining his head to both his best friend, and 'nephew'. As soon as they were in, he kicked the door closed behind them, walking around and coming to stand behind the little girl that was his sister.
Kylie's big eyes stared up at them as the walked in, the air about them making her shiver. She turned her head, looking up at Romeo as he wrapped his arms around her shoulders, resting her chin on her head. "Sergei Victrola, Damian Cromwell, meet my little sister, Kylie Elizabeth Lucero. Butterfly, I hope you can remember Sergei, but Damian is his.. 'son'. " He said, the kindness on his face showing. He barely had that expression on his face, only with his sister. It was rare for anyone, especially two people that he knew well, to see this side of Romeo Lucero. But, then again, barely anyone knew of his prized little sister. He let go as she stepped forwards, her hands held together behind her back as she circled the men, coming closer to them for a moment, then backing away.
"So..Why are they here?" She asked, looking at her brother in confusion as he shook his head, laughing softly. She came back to stand in front of him, putting all her weight on her left leg as she crossed her arms over her chest, narrowing her eyes slightly at him. He ruffled her hair again, then turned her around to face the two men, patting her shoulders with his hands. "I asked them to come out here to ask permission of something. You see, Kylie, Sergei has a coven, and offers more.. protection for you" He said with a soft smile, patting her head. "And, you'd meet new people. Which would be good. I'm bored of being your only toy" He said with a chuckle, then leaned back against the wall behind him as Kylie turned to look at the two men, but not before she shot a look towards her brother. Stuffing her hands into her jeans pockets, looked up at them, cocking her head. "Roma wants me protected? Jeeze. What does he think I am? Fifteen years old?"" She laughed softly, turning to see an unamused expression on her brother's face. Oh, yeah. She knew how to push him. She smirked, rocking on her heels as she turned her attention back towards the two of them.
"Do I have to prove anything..?" Kylie asked, bright blue eyes sparkling with chips of gold as she looked up at them. Romeo remained silent, choosing to be an observer now then take part in this. When she turned back to look at him, he sighed quietly, hoping this went well for them. Hoping that his old friend would come through for him.

HERE'S THE LAST MAN STANDING STEP RIGHT UP HE'S THE REAL THING the last chance of a life time i don't know where it's going, we all know where it's been |
Sergei couldn't help but grin at the speed, thoroughly amused by it, though he would never right out admit it. Boys will be boys, right? Boys will have their toys, and boys will find a way to play with them. That was just the way the world was. That was just the way that the world always would be. And cars? Things that went fast? They were considered toys. And so were motorcycles, fast boats, planes, and guns--though Sergei could safely say he didn't enjoy participating in the latter category. But that was the way the world was. This is the way the world ends... not with a bang but a whimper.
* * *
When the door opened Sergei stepped back politely, not wanting to feel too close to anyone, just in case the comfort zone was breached. He glanced once at Damian before turning back to Romeo and forging a smile. "Good evening." As was customary when meeting someone new, he added a thickness to his accent. Sometimes it could be rather intimidating, and sometimes that was just what was needed. He gave a slight nod of his head, nodding his formal hello, and allowed Damian to precede him in the door. He followed and stood in the hall as the door closed behind him, putting his hands in his pockets. He gave a second cursory nod at the introduction, not bothering with any 'nice to meet you' statement. At that moment in time it was absolutely unnecessary, for he wasn't exactly pleased with the situation at the moment. Then again, it was rather hard to please him at times, so perhaps that was a moot statement.
He glanced at Damian, his thoughts quite clear. What the fuck? He was mostly confused, slightly irked to a degree. Perhaps it was his cold personality, straight out of Russia, his veins filled with snow and ice from the winters and the summers and everything in between. Then again, perhaps it was the exact opposite personality of this person. She was far too happy for his tastes, and quite frankly at the moment he couldn't take her seriously. There was plenty to worry about on a large scale, and he honestly couldn't go around protecting everything that walked, let alone have any of his fighters do it. There was a war, and a rather large one at that. And if she couldn't manage to protect herself in the slightest degree, what would be the point? It would create chaos, sheer chaos... He couldn't afford anymore chaos in his life--it was already hectic enough, and... well, he wasn't getting any younger, that was for sure. Nonetheless he forced a smile, glad that his thoughts were mostly kept to himself. Showing disappointment would not be a good thing in this situation. So he kept his forced smile, though it soon dissipated, replaced by a solid look of emptiness indifference if you may. He continued to watch the girl, quiet and nonspeaking.
Do I have to prove anything? He smirked slightly. There were several answers that were running through his head, though he supposed he ought not say them aloud. That would cause for conflict, a rift possibly, and that he couldn't afford either. At the moment he was in a lose-lose situation, and neither prospects were decent looking. He glanced once more at his son, clear disappointment in his eyes, though he wiped any trace of it before he turned back. He was doing a lot of back and forth looking, but he felt it was warranted. "Show me your fangs." The request was simple enough, but there were oh so many things behind it that he was expecting. Voicing them was no option. Instead he simply waited, trying to determine ahead of time if she'd follow the path that most people did.

Damian positioned himself just behind Sergei's right shoulder, like a loyal retainer to his king. Well, that was what he was, right? Certainly loyal, although hopefully more than just a retainer. He did not do anything stupid like making sure he could protect his surrogate father from danger --- he doubted this hidden treasure of Romeo's would be that dangerous. A spiky ball of mental energy shot towards them within the house, next to a calmer, but more anxious mind. Damian didn't usually like doing this with people he know ( it felt too much like spying for his taste, and he liked to respect people's privacy ) but there was no point in letting manners get him or Sergei hurt. "They're at the door," he murmured, a second before the door opened to reveal Romeo and . . . a blond girl who looked like she was fifteen.
Damian blinked, nodded his head in return to Romeo's greeting and stepped into the house next to Sergei, moving just out of the way so Romeo could close the door. Usually, he would grin, crack a joke about 'Uncle Lucy', clap him on the back and immediately push Romeo towards a sitting area to talk, but this was business, and business was to be conducted seriously. He was not in charge here, so he stayed quiet, offering merely a polite smile to Romeo, and a slight inclining of his head to acknowledge the girl when Romeo introduced her. Kylie, hmm? Damian studied the girl, all bones and big eyes and blond hair. A quick sweep of her intentions showed no malice, and Damian refrained from delving deeper. The urge to read Romeo was stronger, but he pushed that back too. Still, what was Romeo thinking? Damian found it hard to believe that, after knowing him for so long, this girl had never been mentioned, and yet, suddenly, here she was, in the flesh.
"It's very nice to meet you, Kylie," Damian smiled, with a small bow. He felt a surge of irritation at Romeo. He didn't blame him --- anyone would want their sister to be protected, no matter how dubious their connection seemed to Damian --- but was Romeo thinking at all? Did he expect Sergei to simply allow Kylie in based on the 'fact' that she was his sister? Damian looked at Sergei, exchanged a look with his surrogate father and went back to watching Kylie.
She was small, tiny really, and there was not much muscle, as far as he could see. She looked waifish, on the border of unhealthy. Where had Romeo been hiding her? Inside the house? He wanted her to meet new people --- in other words, she knew no one else but Romeo? Damian grabbed at pieces, sticking them together, trying to get a better picture. Was she capable of defending herself? Could she survive in human society without them having to watch her all the time? Romeo was devoted to her. Would he be sticking to her like a burr? That would make him pretty much useless. This was a war, after all, for lack of a better term. She would need protection and they didn't need that as an added complication. Another exchanged glance with Sergei told him Sergei was feeling much the same, and Damian cocked an eyebrow just slightly to tell him he agreed before once again turning back to Romeo and Kylie. As Sergei shifted his attention to Kylie, Damian kept his eyes on Romeo. Did Kylie have to prove anything? Yes, yes she did. She had to prove a lot. Damian rather hoped Romeo actually knew what he was asking, because if not, then his respect level for the other vampire would definitely be taking a fall.
still learning how to love you
