Before Hogwarts closed and the students were for the most part unworried about anything other than their grades – and sometimes not even that – Roger Davies fell in love with Susan Bones. While she was two years younger and in Hufflepuff and while he was in Ravenclaw they still managed to spend time together. Susan considered them best friends – and indeed they were. They did everything together, and were never seen without the other, classes and after hours excluded – but Roger wanted something more.
While in school, however, Roger never made any moves, because Susan was innocent and had no idea of his more than friendly feelings for her. Instead, he settles for other girls, and while it made Susan a little jealous – despite the fact she couldn’t quite put her finger on why – she never mentioned a thing.
Now, five years out of Hogwarts, Susan is dating Cygnus Axminster, a death eater. Susan now a member of the Order of the Phoenix, has no idea Cygnus is simply using her to get inside information on the order, nor does she know her long-term boyfriend of six months is a death eater. Nor is she aware of the fact that Cygnus is cheating on her with Assyria Connolly, a fellow death eater and companion of Cygnus’.
Roger of course, is completely aware of what is going on. However, Susan will not hear a bad word from Roger against Cygnus.
And so, the vicious cycle continues, even out of school. Roger still cannot get his girl.
