as a suprise to everyone in britain, it was a moderately warm and sun filled morning. despite having planned a lie-in, the sunshine streaming through the dormitory windows woke persephone up bright and early that saturday. she opened her eyes just enough to see her alarm clock hands pointing at the eight and the six, let out a groan and rolled over to try and slide back into the deep slumber she had been in. apparently that is not the way the world works, as the sun continued to pour into the circular room (much to percy's disgust), and her brain had kick started into thinking mode. with another moan, perce sat up and rubbed her eyes in the hope it'd help them focus better. it took a few seconds to muster the will to live, untangle herself from the bed covers and attempt to climb gracefully from her four-poster bed. getting her foot caught in the sheets and tumbling face first onto the polished wooden floor was hardly percys idea of grace, and thus the day began.
having woken the rest of the room up with the thud as she hit the floor, and subsequent yell incase it was painful, percy got dressed in her mufty muggle clothes as quickly as possible and hurried down through the deserted common room and through the portrait hole, on pausing for long enough to grab her school satchel. instead of joining the earlybirds in the great hall, for what would obviously be a bang up breakfast cooked by those hundreds of curious little elves, percy strode straight through the entrance hall, through the huge oak doors and into the schools hectare upon hectares of land. the grounds were peaceful at this time of the morning, the only person percy saw was a ravenclaw heading towards the owlery. she went past that though, towards the lake, where she knew there was the most adequate spot she would be able to find.
percy stopped at a old willow tree set about twenty metres back from the lake, out of the way for when other students would undoubtedly come out. its branchs letting enough sunshine through to keep warm, though blocking the rest so she didn't overheat while working through her treacherous pile of homework. it seemed that preperations for o.w.ls started as soon as you returned to school, rather than a couple of weeks prior to the exams like perce had wished for. she dropped onto the inch-long grass, pulling out her potions book, parchment, ink and quill. a page on "potions is not only an exact science, but it is an art - discuss". how this was going to help perce pass her o.w.l with an acceptable grade she didn't know, but thats what happens when you have a stuffy old wizard for a potions master. it was times like these when persephone wished muggle technology could be used at hogwarts, she could really do with the podi she had bought herself over the summer, a few tunes really made the mind flow. or distracted you from potions work. either one was welcome as right now percy say with the parchment resting on a book, quill poised, ready to write and a blank mind. well, blank in the potions department. her thought train was chock-a-block with thoughts of how best to hex those slytherin quidditch plays into oblivion, and how safe it would be to have a training session dedicated to perfecting the art of knocking people off a broomstick with either a bludger or a fist or foot. quidditch was way more important than potions after all, perce didn't want to be a know it all boffin, she was perfectly happy scraping by on homework then cramming so she could amaze people when her test results came through. and again she had drifted away from work, 'focus percy.. focus.' she thought, rearranging herself into a moderately more comfortable position, sprawled out across the lawn on her stomach and propped up on her forearms, the end of her quill running back and forth across her chin as she tried desperately to keep her thoughts soley on the essay that was due on monday.

can't help it if i space in a daze my eyes tune out the other way
i may switch off and go in a daydream in this head my thoughts are deepBEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!…
Groans sounded from every bed in the dormitory. Who had forgotten turn off their alarm clock? It was Satuday for goodness sakes! Rolling over, Annabelle looked at her clock. “Oops, my bad… Sorry guys! She muttered, turning off the nuisance. Might as well get up now… Can’t sleep anymore anyway. She thought, yawning and stretching as she got out of bed. She got dressed quickly, picking a random tank top and shorts and put her hair in a messy ponytail. Hardly anyone’s up this early anyway… She told herself, trying to make an excuse for herself for being so lazy. Making a mental note to get new running shoes (as her old ones were getting quite muddy), she made her way up to the great hall.
I should go for a quick run before too many people go outside to enjoy the nice weather She thought as she helped herself to a piece of toast. She finished it in about five minutes (pretty much a personal record – it’s hard to eat without getting crumbs everywhere!). She wasn’t that hungry, and besides, she’d much rather be outside under the real sun than inside under the enchanted ceiling. She jogged as fast as she dared the rest of the way to the doors.
Breathing in the clean morning air, Annabelle wondered where to go. She usually got up early to go for a run around the lake, but this morning, she was just tired. What had she done the day before to make her so tired? She wasn’t really sure. Without really thinking about it, she walked toward the lake. She had a routine, and she couldn’t ignore that… I’ll just sit by the lake for a bit… A little peace and quiet might be nice. So she headed for an old looking willow tree where there seemed to be just the right amount of shade.
As she approached, she realized someone was already there. Just as she was getting ready to turn around, she recognized the girl. Smiling, Annabelle realized that it was silly to think that she’d have a quiet day in her life. Skipping the rest of the way to the tree, she plopped down beside Percy. ”Hey there, Gryffie, what’cha up to?” Not really needing an answer, she leaned over and looked at what the Gryffindor girl was doing. “Homework, huh? Are you studying for your O.W.L.s too? I guess I really should start studying too then… But isn’t it a little early for that?” Stopping for a moment, she realized that she was still wearing her running gear, with her hair up in that horrible ponytail. It’s only one person who’ll see me… It doesn’t really matter… She told herself, but she touched her hair, not really convinced. Shaking her head, she tried to forget about it, ”Need any help? I probably wouldn’t be too much help though; I’m only good at muggle studies, transfiguration, and potions… Anything else and you’d probably be better off without my help.” Looking at Percy, she really hoped she wouldn’t be told to go away. Most of her friends would still be in bed, and when she wasn’t in the mood for running, there really wasn’t too much to do on a Saturday morning. Even if it was nice out.

perce's gaze was blank and fixed, obviously entirely away with the doxies. it was five minutes before she realised the use of a title was absolutely mandatory and the most useful thing she had to write at the moment. she took her sweet time on the lettering, just so she could pretend to herself that she would at least get a mark for knowing what the topic was. once she had finished that minor task, she held the paper out in front of her and cocked her head, looking at it as if it were a masterpiece rather than half a line of words, albeit it be in her best handwriting rather than her usual careless, left-handed scrawl. resting the parchment back on the book she let out another distressed sigh. this was getting her nowhere. instead of furrowing her eyebrows, screwing up her face and squeezing a useless paragraph out of herself, she huffed and dropped her head forward against the prickly grass and ignored the imaginary neon sign over her head reminding her what a fail she was.
percy was on the verge of dozing off when a set of, what appeared to be, running shoes caked in mud came skipping rhymically along the ground towards her. persephone watched the approaching legs, though was too lazy and dramatic to shrug off her momentary depression and sit up to greet her newly acquired company. in fact, she didn't even look up to see who it was, just watched the legs come closer and closer until, hey there, griffie oh, yeah, right, it was annabelle. you couldn't put a label on exactly what perce and annabelle were to each other, they seemed to bicker and banter almost constantly about the pettiest of things, but there still seemed to be humour behind it. percy had come across a couple of people who thought that the two must seriously dislike each other but that wasn't the case, as at times like this when they found themselves with just the other for companionship, they had had some halfway decent conversations. it was a confusing relationship, but it worked flawlessly.
"what's up bells?" perce asked in polite response, though the slytherin had already got absorbed talking about studying which was fine too, it gave perce a chance to moan at someone else who didn't careless. pushing herself into an upright position and pulling her oversized shirt around her a little to fight the early-morning cool, she gave a half hearted smile. "who'd of thought it? me doing work. but i occasionally see the benefit of not getting in trouble. especially when the essay was set as punishment, therefore no, not o.w.l work. just a stuffy proffessor." she told annabelle, putting on her puppy eyes and slightly whiny voice like it was a complete and utter miscarriage of justice that she had been given such a punishment. although it was from her potions teacher, the topic was hardly academic, it was about wording things properly, theory of knowledge, philosophy in magic. pointless in every sense of the word.
"and yes, definately too early to actually start any work. it'll be forgotten by the time the weekends over and no use when the exams come around. you just won't see me the week before we actually have the tests." percy's theory that cramming was the only and best option was pretty crap. it was more that she didn't see the point in learning stuff now when she'd have to revise at a later point, just do it all then. her twin, alongside most of her peers, took the more reasonable approach, more work now, less work later. perce didn't think like this, she was very much about having the best of times in the short term. anything else she didn't want to know. her icy blue eyes tracked belles movement, as she self-conciously ran her hand over her dark hair. although perce cared greatly about her appearance, it was in a more 'make a huge effort to look effortless' kind of way, with her brunette waves knotted into a chunky plait, you couldn't deny that it was hot but at the same time it was hardly red carpet material. perce shook away the thoughts focused around herself as the other girl began to speak again, apparently over her confidence hiccup. help? was she serious? this was the thing most everyone in her own house now refused her, knowing too well that she'd squeeze every little ounce of knowledge out of you without putting too much strain on her own brain. "oh would you?! i need this stupid essay done and i have a muggle studies and divination one too! i can't wait to drop divination next year, my inner eye just doesn't foresee terribly well. anyway, take your pick! they are all fun i'm sure." she replied, her tone excitable, like a child being offered a trip to the fun fair. it had never occured to her that students from the other houses would be willing to help her out of her constant tight spots with work, she just assumed they'd rush to think of an excuse like many others.
