this is a call of arms

to live and love and sleep together we could flood the streets with love or light or heat, whatever. lock the parents out, cut a rug, twist and shout wave your hands, make it rain, the stars will rise again - - - -
persephone didn't enjoy the routine of school. in fact, i would go as far as to say it was the one thing she really couldn't stand about hogwarts, and probably any other educational facility both magic and otherwise. for example, every weekday she woke up to the sound of six alarm clocks ringing shrilly around the circular room in which she slept. each of them were set one minute apart by her fellow students, each had a different tune. it was painful to say the least, five times a week. and once she was awake she had the next seven hours of her life planned out for her, meals and lessons. on top of this she had to notify the team of quidditch practise in advance, rather than just do it as a spur of the moment thing when she fancied a game. at home she revelled in the chance to wake up mid-afternoon or at sunrise, curl up with a duvet and watch six repeats of this television show called 'friends', or go out. she had so much more choice with what to do with her time. that was the main thing that bugged her, and exactly what she was mentally cursing as the portrait hole swung open once she gave it the password.

the common room was almost empty, most students being down eating a several course dinner in the great hall most probably. percy had considered joining them but skipping meals was becoming second nature to her. she liked getting to the common room before the majority of the other gryffindors got to the tower, so she could grab the old, comfy leather armchair right beside the fire place. firstly however, to get out of the uniform robes. she hurried through the room and up the stairs to her dormitory, barely noticing the couple of other students she passed doing homework or themselves heading down for food, her mind elsewhere as she opened the fifth year girls room. it was empty, of course, and so she didn't hang around as she dumped her school bag down on the end of her four-poster bed and pulled her robes over her head. although she looked good, it was careless and based mainly on comfort with wet-look black leggings, a t-shirt and scuffed ankle boots. her hair was pulled back in a ponytail and her make up left from a day of school work, as i said, careless, but she smiled into the full length mirror as she checked herself over considering how she could probably bring a potato sack into fashion. with a content nod, 'sephone grabbed her wand from her bag, and both her charms and transfiguration books so she could practise from the comfort of the common room.

re-entering the room several flights of stairs down, she marvelled in how quiet it still was, everyone obviously taking their time over their meal or having other things to do. there were still a couple of people, some seventh years boffins discussing something way too technical for her to eavesdrop into, and a pair of eleven year olds staring at the notice board. perce wandered towards the chair of her preference, as if being pulled by gravity rather than doing it by concious desicion, but just as was about to turn and collapse into it she stopped abruptly, her body swaying forwards at the sudden halt. "oh.. hello," she muttered, her eyebrows furrowing as if she couldn't quite understand what had just happened. someone already there? in her seat? was that even possible.

The Words: 599 The Outfit: tada The Notes t'was not shit, but mine is

The idea of sitting in the great hall while everyone mindlessly chatted to each other about how great there summers were was not Declan’s idea of fun. Sure he could make up some crazy excuse every time someone asked him how his was, but he ended up just telling everyone the truth. He had spent most of the summer practicing quidditch in the fields by his house, and sometimes even went to these things muggles call batting cages to practice his swing, but they used these things that they called bats to hit a tiny ball, it was nothing like hitting a bludger. Everyone else seemed to have had a better summer, because for once in his life Declan had been working hard at something. He needed to get on a team after leaving Hogwarts or else he would end up working in a store on diagon alley his whole life.

Declan ate his food quickly, and headed up the many flights of stairs to the Gryffindor common room. Not a soul was there, so he headed up to his room and changed into some more comfortable clothes than his robes. He checked his hair in the mirror, it looked a little knotted and gross but he couldn’t be bothered to fix it. He heard someone else heading up the stairs to the bedrooms, and it startled him. He was getting used to the quiet. He headed back to the common room, just as a couple of first years entered, and by the looks of it they were heading to his favourite chair. There was no way he was going to let a couple of little children take it from him. Before they even noticed he was there he sprinted to it, jumping over the backrest and landing perfectly. It was the perfect chair, right by the fire. It was old worn out leather chair that had been used by so many people in the past, and Declan couldn’t help but wondering what kind of memories other students might have had on the chair. He gave the first years a smug smile, “Run along children.” He said, while shooing them with his hands. They sulked off over to the notice board muttering about how annoyed they were.

Finally it was time for Declan to relax. He slumped over a little, putting his hand behind his head and took a deep breath. Soon enough people would be finishing their food, and would come join him in the common room, and then he could have some fun. That’s when he noticed Percy coming down the stairs, she looked a little out of it as she walked over to where he was sitting. Her hair was a mess, and her outfit was a little unorganized, but in a weird way nice. Maybe it was just because Percy looked good in anything. He assumed she was coming over to tell him when the next quidditch practice was, but when she got near she didn’t say anything. It looked like she was about to sit down on his chair; until she realised he was there. “Hey.” He said, with the hint of a smile growing on his face, “I saw you almost sit on my chair there Percy.” He said seriously, “Not cool, I battled a couple of rabid first years to get this thing.” He looked over at the first years, they had obviously heard him, and were now glaring. “But you are welcome to sit here.” Declan added tapping his lap, “I’ve been told I have a very comfortable lap.”

it took a couple of seconds for persephone to regain her composure and take half a step back away from the armchair so that she was no longer towering over the occupant. obviously it could only be someone like declan who would innocently manage to do something like this, and she could hardly do anything about it as he was on her quidditch team, and although she hated to say it, they - she needed him. so annoying swine or not, the wand stayed lowered by her side - though she did manage to produce a couple of acid green sparks by accident. she rearranged her expression into a somewhat more relaxed one, once her brain had caught up to her eyes and she realised it was true, she wasn't going mad from a lack of entertainment. at the smile that quickly grew across declan's, 'sephone fought the childish urge to stick her tongue out at him. yes, sometimes she really was that immature.

"I saw you almost sit on my chair there Percy. Not cool, I battled a couple of rabid first years to get this thing." percy inwardly similtaneously groaned and growled. firstly, and foremostly, because he was such a douche sometimes, and then because after risking rabies, he wasn't about to move to one of the other almost as comfortable seats around them. "i hope you are aware of what a prat you can be.." perce mumbled, making sure it was audible enough that declan could hear her. as she said this, she turned back to look over the aforementioned first years, the two she'd noticed early who were now shooting evils across the room at her beater. she gave them a two fingered salute as she turned back towards declan. "anyway, i'll have you know, babe, that this particular chair is not yours, in fact it is very much mine," she replied, but was cut off by him once again implying he was somewhat desirable, in any sense of the word (which he was when he wasn't getting on her tits so much).

perce couldn't help rolling her eyes as he gestered towards his legs, though she bit her lip to stop herself coming up with a stupid remark about this. it was a tough choice, but in the end she did as he suggested despite her initial hang ups about it, and flopped onto his lap. in a way, she wished she was fat enough though it would cause declan discomfort, enough discomfort that he decided to move elsewhere for example, but her slight, atheletic build was hardly going to affect him. "i have to practise silly spells though, so just warning you, you will be my target," she laughed, pointing her wand at declan though she managed to fight the urge to cause his eyebrows to turn blue and grow into a monobrow. it was tough though, and as she let her arm fall away from his face she considered how likely it was she ended up doing something to him before she left his lap.

Declan smiled up at Percy, he could tell that he was getting annoyed with him taking what she called her chair. He had been sitting in that very chair since he was a wee little first year. It was his chair way before it was hers. There was no way she would take it from him, next year when he was gone it would be all hers, but until then he was not going to budge. That’s when she called him a prat, like he had never heard that before. He looked appalled, “How dare you say such thing?” he shrieked, “I am genuinely hurt!” He put his hand to his heart, and gave a hearty laugh. He got a few looks from the others in the common room, but just ignored them. They were just hoping for some drama. In that group were the first years glaring at them. Apparently Percy noticed them too, because she saluted them. He playfully pushed her a little, and glared at her.

He rolled his eyes at her comment about the chair being hers, “Actually BABE,” he mocked her, “This chair is mine, for as you can see I am sitting in it.” He smiled, his (in his opinion) perfect white smile, “It always has been mine, and always will be mine.” Sure it was a little rude not to give up the chair for a lady, but she just strolled over and acted like she owned the place, and Declan wasn’t going to let her get away with that. He was going to get her for thinking she could steal his chair at the next quidditch practice, he just wasn’t sure how yet.

Declan was a little surprised when Percy sat on his lap, but he wasn’t going to say he was upset about it. “Your butts kinda bony.” He observed as she adjusted herself into a comfortable position. He wasn’t going to lie, it was digging into his leg a bit, but he wasn’t going to move, this was all part of her plan, he knew it. But then he realised that wasn’t her plan; it was actually to use him as a target for practicing charms. He laughed silently, the way that just makes it look like you’re moving your shoulders up and down, while smiling. He covered his crotch with his hands, blocking any damage she might try to cause “Go ahead.” He said, sitting up a little straighter, “Hurt your unarmed beater, sounds like a brilliant plan to me.” Hopefully this would stop her from doing anything that would cause him too much pain, but he was just praying she wouldn’t do anything to his appearance, it’s all he had going for him.

While Percy was in his lap Declan decided to make the most of it. He placed one arm around her, while leaving one hand still protecting his crotch. What could he do with her here practising charms? He pulled out her ponytail absent minded while trying to decide what he could do. He brushed out her hair with his fingers still not really realising he was doing this. He looked at her, and realised what he was doing. He thought up a plausible reason to tell her why he was doing this, “Your hair looks better out.” He said matter-of -factly, “So long and luscious.” he smiled ever so slightly, so it wasn’t noticeable, at his quick thinking.

this is a call of arms

to live and love and sleep together we could flood the streets with love or light or heat, whatever. lock the parents out, cut a rug, twist and shout wave your hands, make it rain, the stars will rise again - - - -
percy smiled at declan's look of feign hurt and distaste, at least if he failed as a quidditch player, he would be able to get employed on one of those shitty little muggle soaps with moderate actors shrieking at one another. he would fit right in, which he proved with his little dramatic exclaimation. perce's eyes one again rolled back, her head shaking almost sadly. however when she looked back up you could see her biting her lip to hold in the smile turning up the corner of her lips. at his gentle push and glare, though, she couldn't restrain it any longer, and she smiled that smile that everyone knew and adored though made no further comment on declan and his many ineptitutes.

"i don't care for your tone mr. finnigan," she replied to declans mocking reply, her own tone as serious as she could manage given the smile still etched on her lips. "anyway, it definately has not always been yours, as especially recently, i have occupied that very chair in the evenings. damn, i skipped food for that very chair," she replied, drawing the last syllable out into a moan of annoyance. if percy didn't genuinelly like declan two-thirds of the time, and if he wasn't probably the best beater she had any chance of finding, she would drop him from the team just for winding her up. yes, she could be that selfish, easily. it came naturally to 'seph to think and act ever-so slightly narcissistically almost all of the time. she blamed it on genes, though usually she just didn't care enough to control it.

percy swivelled around on the seventh years lap, swinging her legs over the chairs armrest. when declan mentioned how bony she was, persephone couldn't help but wiggle a little for the purpose of his discomfort. she then steadied herself, her ice blue eyes twinkling at the thought of actually causing harm to the boy, but at his words she nodded in agreement of his heavy sarcasm. "i'm not ruling it completely out, i'm sure i could find another beater until you got fixed up, and the rest of us would have a short, blissful break from you." her hand fell away from pointing at him, turning instead towards on of the eleven year olds who had now turned away, there was a small pop and suddenly the boy was doubled up in stitches of laughter on the other side of the room, looking around for the source of his giggles. despite being innocently bent over her charms book contents page, staring intently at it like she would gain knowledge from the page numbers, the first year seemed to know it was her, the mischief maker, at the root of his uncontrollable cheer.

when percy next looked up from the book, the boy's laughter had succumbed to periodic hiccups and he was managing to continue his conversation while keeping a wary eye in the direction of herself and declan. she adjusted her position a tiny bit, without concious thought, to accomodate the boys arm more comfortably for the both of them. her eyes moved over the words of the page on tickling charms, though she found it hard to take in the information woth declans hand pulling at her hair until it fell forwards out of the band, and then continuing to twist, gentally tug and brush at it. since she was a kid, 'sephone had loved people playing with her hair, it relaxed her - in fact, her mother used to have to play with it to make her go to sleep. her brain became increasingly unfocused until perce looked towards declan with a curious but happy expression. his answer to her look was simple, and although percy couldn't help but agree with him, she still felt the need to tease him, "that may be so deccers, but before you go too far, i know my legs look better, luscious and long when on show but i'd like to keep my leggings on in public so don't get too carried away," she smiled, letting him know it was a joke. "anyway, keep doing that," she ordered, looking sideways at his arm that still hovered by the tips of her brunette hair, "i sort of like it."
