AMELIA CARROWpure-blood - fifth year - slytherin
Amelia is an expert social climber. Although the Carrow name is not as respectable as those of the oldest pureblooded families, she's long harbored ambitions to change her stature and rise into a position of social prestige. And she's good at what she does - insidious, poised, and charismatic, she's successfully cultivated relationships among the elite pureblood students at Hogwarts. She therefore has created a standing for herself, if only through networking and strategic flattery.
But one problem remains: she is engaged (arranged marriage, of course) to a Crabbe, and she has set her sights higher. Specifically, she's had her eye on Antares Lestrange; not only does he come from one of
the oldest pureblood names, but he is speculated to be the inheritor of a vast fortune. His own ambition and cleverness, of course, are not off-putting either.
It would be a scandal to defy her arranged marriage, and an obstacle to persuade Lestrange, even though they are presently friends. But Amelia has never doubted her prowess when it comes to social pursuits, and she's not about to watch this challenge slide by idly.
What she doesn't realize is that Lestrange has a terrible, closely-guarded secret: his family's wealth is all an illusion, squandered away by the last generation. It is the goal of his life to guard this secret and reclaim his wealth, justifying the integrity of the Lestrange name in the process.
Antares and Amelia do get married later, and go on to have Rodolphus and Rabastan Lestrange. Buuut this is not a happy romantic journey! In fact, this plot is pretty much full of mutual abuse, blackmail, and backstabbing - at least at first.
Antares is currently a confederate of Tom Riddle and already an experimenter in the dark arts. He's also a bully and sort of a misogynist asshole. Once he cues in on Amelia's intent - and realizes he can't shake her off - he starts using her ambition to his own advantage. IE, making her help with his dark arts pursuits, treating her rudely in private, asking her to run errands, etc. She resents this, but as a socialite and a girl of subtlety, never lashes out - instead, she patiently complies. Antares initially thinks her weak for this.
Later on, she stumbles upon his secret in some manner. And, resourceful person that she is, begins using it as blackmail against
him. This triggers a lot of resulting conflicts, in which they inflict varying degrees of pain upon each other through underhanded strategems and the like. But even as they grow increasingly frustrated, they also develop something of a twisted respect for each other's cleverness and amorality.
And the rest goes from there.
LOTS OF DRAMA, LOTS OF CONFLICT, LOTS OF TENSION. and they'll be beautiful in their own evil little way. lots of ideas for this, of course, and it'll be exciting and fun and terrible. sooooo take her take her take her.
