hi guys! i know i've kind of disappeared off the face of the earth, but things are now looking good health-wise (got a donor approved and everything) and i've finally gotten something of a breather. thanks again for all your support and encouragement on my absence thread. <3
that said, i've really missed you guys! and it's also too bad that chime went into a slack period of inactivity. the community here was really great. i've been thinking about where we can go from here, and basically boiled it down to four different directions. i'd really appreciate feedback, so here's the thread!
1. revive chime as it is. stay with this same site, cycle out all the inactive characters, go on a massive advertising spree, and pump back the energy/life into the site.
2. chime 2.0. make a new site, essentially revamping what we have. the era and canons etc. would all stay the same, but we'd start new and fresh on a different forum and perhaps a different host.
3. make a new hp site entirely. maybe marauders or next gen, or even founders, which i've always wanted to try. it wouldn't be chime anymore, but hopefully it'd have a similar community base.
4. make a new non-hp site. i've been having a hunkering for medieval fantasy lately, i dunno. there's also the old scifi standby, or vampires or pirates or film noir. not sure how many other people would be interested in it though.
and those are my ideas! please reply and rank them in the order you prefer, as well as give any feedback/suggestions. i'm kinda leaning toward 2 + 3 myself, but i'm also really wide open, so opinions are reallyyyy welcome.
thanks guys. <333

YES. This really was/is an amazing member base. I've rarely felt this committed to a site before, and I've been dying watching it go all sad and lonely.
Honestly, I love the WWII era (both as history, and as a place to have some canon basis, but not enough to be stifling), and the Tom Riddle aspect of it, so I'm for 2.
One thing I'd love to play with is Irish/English relations. The Irish don't have their own school, but for centuries the Irish were looked down on by virtually everyone. They've only just won their independence, and they maintained a mostly neutral stance during WWII, which did not ingratiate many people. So if we did revamp Chime in a second version, that could be an interesting tid-bit to include.
If we did do 3, I might vouch for an adult site, rather than a new era. I think some really interesting things could happen with Grindewald/the early Riddle years. I dunno.
Then I'd be game for reviving this site and cycling the characters.
And then four, which I might tag along with, but I'd prefer the other options.
<3<3<3
I'm so glad to hear you're in a better place with your health.

hi lacy! i'm really glad things are looking up for you also. i've been really busy lately too and at the same time missing chime lots all the time. so i'd be delighted to be on board with any of this, and with all of you. here are my preferences in tentative order - but i'm pretty happy to go along with whatever people want. 2. i think re-vamping might be healthy for chime at this point, and get people re-excited. generally, i think this might be more successful than just reviving (1), though i'd be happy for that too. 3. i'd be into this also. i agree with meg; i wouldn't mind an adult site, and the grindewald era is a really interesting one that i've never done. i would actually be very excited about this, i think. also, if we did do that era, we could use whatever histories/characters etc that we wanted from chime - or not, obviously - but it would give a connection from chime into a new site. that said, any era would be fun, and i'd definitely be into. i'm kind of tied between 2 and 3 actually. 4. those genres all sound interesting to me. i would definitely be on board for making any of these happen. i don't want to say that 1 is my last choice, because obviously if we keep chime as is, i will always be here and love it, but i feel like maybe as far as succeeding and re-building, it feels like the least effective of solutions. i've had activity problems for a while now i know, but i'm not gone, and i'll be here to help through whatever it is we decide to do. <3

Seriously pondered how I'd rank these all morning. Yeah. 2. I really like Riddle Era, man. I haven't been able to find another one of these sites and the premise of the era really suits me. At the same time, 2 is ranked equally with number 3 depending on which era is chosen to continue on with. 3. There's a whole wide Potter-verse of genres to explore together and I'm not averse to most of them, but chime has been so successful because it's so unique. Having said that, FOUNDERS ERA. LACY, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY RP LIFE (albeit, it hasn't been long)? 4. I DON'T KNOW. I mean, I was totally going to say no, but then I thought it'd be best if I maybe opened my mind up to the possibilities here. Despite my unquestionable presence on the site you'd make, my participation would be really centered around what you choose to do. All the genres you listed, however, sound alright with me, though. Especially film noir, oh my gosh. That sounds wonderful (except I can't write film noir so I don't know how that'd work out). 1. Not going to lie, at first, mine were all going to be ranked 1-4. Yes, I am a weakling. I love you chime, just the way you are. I still agree with Cora, this is not the option to go with if you guys want to pump life into the site. We won't feel like we're brand new and shiny again. We won't be inspired to weave entirely new plots and new characters. The thing is, I don't really mind that. I like what I see still left here. Call me a conservative among you house of new-fangled progressives, but I'm really attached. However, for the best interest of the site as a whole, not the best option here. I love all 4 options and have an equal amount of enthusiasm is pursuing them because they all involve this community. The fact is, I love you guys way too much to not join whatever new project you take on, so I'm here no matter what decision is come to to try it with you. I'm with you until the end, chime.

omg how did no one tell me about this until today? anyway, despite the fact that i'm just straight up jumping on the bandwagon here, i'm gonna say that: 2. laksjdlaksjd chime 2.0 sounds like a blast. 3. and so does adult era riddle holy crap. 1. although chime is remarkably pretty. 4. i'd roll with it but chime is my heart nbd. since otherwise if i wrote lots, i'd just be repeating everyone else.

jkdafjd thanks for all the feedback, you guys are fantastic.
it seems like we're leaning toward option TWO: making a new chime 2.0 site.
i'd like to try hosting it with JCINK, which has a ton of really awesome features like you wouldn't even believe. it also looks and feels a lot like invisionfree, so the transition isn't difficult at all.
with that said, some other undecided variables that i could use weighing in on maybe:
1. should we stick with CHIMERA as a name, or something new?
2. new layout, or keep the old one?
3. anything else you'd like to see implemented in the new site, that would be different from the old one?

yeah, i'm actually kind of leaning toward new name/new layout, just because it'd help with the newness feeling of the site.
i totally understand attachment to this old layout too, though, so it's a matter of where everyone else stands as well.

1. I like chimera 2.0. It's apropos, after all. A chimera constantly changes, so why the heck not?
2. New layout. For which I would be very happy to help with graphics should my help be desired. In fact, I'd be happy to help with pretty much anything.
3. Bahaha, UM. UM. Do we have an interactive gossip thread? Because I've been on sites where players/characters spread rumors that can be used IC every month. It's useful for first impressions and interactions and such, and also a really good way for new people to get a bit of fun introduction to a bunch of characters and what they're up to IC.
Past that, I don't have much.

(as a sidenote, it's making me so excited to see all of you guys again adfjdfk)
THINGS I'M GOING TO DO
- send out a mass site email to everyone to tell them to check this thread. cause i think not everyone's looked at the site recently with it going inactive for a while - and the more opinions, the better! - look around for potentially new layouts and post options here. also feel free to post suggestions too if you have them. - tinker more with jcink.
IDEAS FOR THE NEW SITE
- i think we'd benefit from having general information threads about the 1940s. cora put up a thread about speech and taylor about money conversion, but probably more stuff would be good - like really really general background info. about the war, about fashion, about society, about misogyny, etc. it'd also be a good place to put in that british-irish conflict meg was talking about. a lot of this stuff was implied in chime, but it wasn't laid out clearly, and it might make new members adjust with more ease. and i could always use more references for myself too! - i like the whole monthly random threads idea. it'd encourage people to interact with different members and stuff- maybe we could combine it with site activity checks, so they get assigned a random thread/other member when they post in it. (to be more efficient.) - what do you guys think about character pages? not plot pages and not quite thread trackers, but something in between. it'd summarize what's happened to the character so far, what he's doing now (really basic summaries about threads so far?), what his friends/relationships are- sometimes it was hard to keep track of all the different relationships, and i imagine it was that much harder for new characters. - jcink has an AUTOMATED POINT SYSTEM. cannot begin to comprehend how easy it will be to keep track of house points. and it will save poor ali so much time omg.
POTENTIAL NEW NAMES?
when i first created chime, i made a list of a bunch of words/phrases i liked, and i'm going to paste it here as a starting point for new names. if there's a name you like, shout it out! we can put it to vote later, with the ones that get the best feedback. and of course, please suggest too! (for anyone who likes chimera 2.0 as a name, don't worry, it'll definitely be an option to vote for!)
anyway, here is my list. some of it is gratuitously pretentious (hello non-english languages) so just ignore those parts.
[spoiler=click]delirium- silhouette- pendulum- walpurgis* descent- hollow- the grey hour fugue-
quantum- chicanery deceit
rapture paradigm- sublime interim ambrosia- quicksilver* veritas* perpetual- panacea- pandora's box- protean* mirror*

eoan
amor fati love of fate Nietzscheian alternative world view to
memento mori [remember you must die]. Nietzsche believed amor fati to be more life affirming.
Delenda de-len'da, n pl (Latin, neuter plural of gerundive of delere, to delete) Things to be deleted or destroyed. The term is best known from the Latin phrase "Delenda est Carthago", or "Carthage must be destroyed", spoken by Cato the Elder in 157 B.C. after perceiving that Carthage might pose a threat to the Roman Republic. In this age of censors and shredders, delenda is rare, but most definitely not at risk of being deleted from dictionaries.
amaranth-

trompe-l'œil photograph-like realism in painting; literally "trick the eye"

i'm liking CATALYST because i think it is badass. i also like panacea, dusk, perpetual, panacea, amaranth, impasse. and farrago, because it just sounds funny. but yeah, there is my contribution.
