SLUG CLUB MEETING

It's the beginning of the year, and Slughorn has already started handpicking his favorite and most promising students! From there, he will shower on them all sorts of praise and attention and inappropriate favoritism - you know, the good stuff. To kick off the semester and welcome everyone (who is worthy) back into his graces, he is hosting a formal evening dinner. Attendance is by invitation only - for what good is a party if it isn't exclusive and elitist?

Haven't been selected? What a shame. I'm sure you're not missing out on much - just some absolutely sumptuous food and amazing entertainment, not to mention networking with the up and coming. But otherwise, you know, not much. (If you're dead set on making it in, Slughorn does allow his guests to bring dates, the old codger.)

MUSICIANS
Slughorn will undoubtedly have asked the quintet to perform for a segment of the night. The first concert of year will have to be impressive! And of course, there will be that tricky little thing about deciding who gets to play what...

PRANKSTERS
An evening crammed full of stuffy, self-absorbed people? They're just asking for something to deflate them. Perhaps one of the pranksters has managed to procure a place at the event (whether by merit or by date), so he can further provide inside scoop.

WALPURGIS
Well, it's a given that the inner circle will all be there - they're the most prominent young men in pureblood society. But as they try to outdo and/or out-talk each other, can their well-practiced courtesy control the increasing tension of competition?

Thanks to the ploy of the pranksters, everyone can now participate in the Slug Club dinner if they wish. The pranksters have made duplicates of invitations and distributed them en masse - so it's quite likely any one of your characters could have gotten a hold of one.

In addition, the beverages that will be sipped during the party have been tinkered with. In short, anyone who drinks during the night will eventually find themselves turning a different shade of color, depending on their inner emotion (green for jealousy, red for anger, etc.).

This event will be started soon when some other pertinent threads wrap up, so keep an eye out!

reason(s) for being invited: Because he sucks up to Sluggy like nobody's business, and because he credits any pranks (that he was caught for) involving potions (most being fairly advanced) to Slughorn's mad teaching skillz? P: And he's brilliant.

helps others aaaallllll the time. plus, i mean, she's going to be writing an entire series of books on charms.

reason(s) for being invited: Well, for one he's Head Boy, that always counts for something. Furthermore, he's a determined young businessman and it's obvious he will go far. That he intends to succeed within the Ministry and go (almost) all the way to the top is common knowledge. Will probably be sorted out later when he starts truely showing his dark side.

reason(s): oh my god, he just has to be there. this will be a time to network like nobody's business and it's no secret that slughorn spends a majority of his time at parties talking up the individuals in the slugclub to industry professionals... so barnabas would totes want to be on good terms with a person that has that kind of clout. barnabas has a pretty good track record in his own right. maybe he isn't one of slughorn's absolute favorites since he's got plenty of controversial moments, but it's clear barnabas wants to do something reputable with his career after hogwarts so it seems logical that slughorn might want to add him to his "collection" for the perks.... a lifetime free subscription to the daily prophet, anyone?

reason(s) for being invited: lucretia has more of a creative hand with potions than a masterful one, so it wasn't her skill that won her an invite. it was the christmas presents of rare (i.e. expensive, and accessible to those who can afford it) potion ingredients, such as the magically frozen ashwinder eggs she gifted him in her fifth year, or the fluxweed she imported from America for his birthday in her third year. though it's not likely lucretia would have needed to, for slughorn is wiser than to let a black, connected as they are, to slip through his talent sifter.

though not often involved in a committed romantic relationship, lucretia would be slightly put off of the party if she had to attend dateless. appearances are key, and it should never appear as though a black girl can't snag a man. he should definitely be pureblooded, though overall purity requirements will relax (minimally) as the party approaches and she remains unspoken for. muggleborns need not apply (:

reason(s) for being invited: Well Potions is one of her best classes, and she's one of the top in her house. Although she is unconventional, and not like most of the girls that would attend, Slughorn does look for students that aspire to be great things, and have great potential to be note-worthy. And well, Evan is all about aspiring to be one of the most famous witches of her age, and hopefully beyond that. And knowing Slughorn for five years, and being one of her favourite professors, she would be highly offended if he didn't invite her.

So her invitation would likely be genuine. But it would be hilarious if it was fake and she thought it was real.

reason(s) for being invited: Father was a wicked duelist, Mother was his favourite potions student. Violet's skill in potions is rather renown and he's been trying to drag her to one of these dinner since her first year.
