so, i've been diagnosed with end-stage renal disease. this isn't half as bad as it sounds- having said that, it's still pretty bad. the long and short of it is that i need a kidney transplant, and then i should be fine. recently, i've been in the hospital, and i'm due there still a lot more, for tests and screenings, etc.
this is a sort of indefinite activity check right now. i've just got a lot on my plate, and i've also been kind of reevaluating my life. i'll see how i feel in a bit, and then i can get back to you guys on whether or not i'm dropping my characters. <3
love you all

dear lacy, i love you very much and i one hundred percent agree with everyone but will chime in for myself to say how much i adore and admire you, and have for this past year or so of getting to know you. but hopefully you know that by now. i literally don't know what i would have done without you, which hopefully you know also. you are one of the most interesting, intelligent, creative, and exciting people i have had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with (on and offline) and i'm so delighted to get to be your friend. jumping in with a sappy message i guess because i think it's worth saying and because you are the best. you know where i am and that i'm willing to do whatever, whenever, that helps out. you know how to find me. rest lots. i'm thinking of you (lots) and sending all the best wishes i have. let's hang out i'll bring the tea love, me <3

thank you guys so much for your overwhelming concern and support. this is going to sound like a hallmark card as well, but i genuinely appreciate your sentiments. and they really brightened my day and made me feel better.
umm, just to update: everything seems to be working out okay. i have a donor (thanks to my amazing family) and the doctors have been really great in reassuring me. i'm taking a medical leave from the university, so that will reduce a lot of stress too. and i think the first shock and stuff is beginning to fade, etc.

So I've been awkwardly lurking in this thread and flailing about at my desk trying to figure out how to say how sorry I am that you have to deal with something that shitty, and how glad I am you have a donor, and how insanely stupid bodies can be. And basically you're a beastly young thing and deserve all the best outcomes ever and I really really want to keep knowing that you're doing okay, even though I don't know you as well as a lot of the others do, and yeah. I'd also like to say how glad I am that quantum physics are all about probabilities and the likelihood of multiple events akin to a big bang happening in a universe even larger than we can imagine means that space whales probably exist and somehow that makes alot of things okay. It doesn't fix your kidneys, but it does mean that some pretty wonderful awe-inspiring things can happen and I'd just like to say that you're one of those things.
Anyway, all the best.

I've been checking this topic every day for the past 10 days (or more, actually) not knowing what to say and reading everyone's sweet comments and, Lacy, you inspire so much and so many around here, it's truly stupendous. I haven't been able to stomach that you're sick and I'm so sorry that you've become sick with this when you're so young and virile.
Even if you leave Chime, which I wouldn't blame you for, because man, you've got a lot on your plate and you still will after this is over, I hope we encounter each other some day (my dream is in Berkeley aooesjg but you'll be graduated probably by then, gdi and that school is too amazing to get into), and even if we don't, thank you so much for having made this appearance in all our lives and making all of us so happy. As cheesy as it is, I think that being here around you and everyone has made me better and is something I will carry into the rest of my life (after all, I am a toddler and children are impressionable things). You're responsible for so much of that and have been such an inspiration.
So, all the best with the transplant. Dr. Ari definitely made me feel better about the future as well, it's just quite unfortunate that you need to suffer through this at all. Oh, kidneys, I'm glad you've got a replacement coming your way. I hope everything goes smoothly and you recover quickly so you can go back to conquering the world with your wit and beauty. <3
