so, i've been diagnosed with end-stage renal disease. this isn't half as bad as it sounds- having said that, it's still pretty bad. the long and short of it is that i need a kidney transplant, and then i should be fine. recently, i've been in the hospital, and i'm due there still a lot more, for tests and screenings, etc.

this is a sort of indefinite activity check right now. i've just got a lot on my plate, and i've also been kind of reevaluating my life. i'll see how i feel in a bit, and then i can get back to you guys on whether or not i'm dropping my characters. <3

love you all

Lacy,

I have never been less sure of where or when to say something. I have known you for a few years now and have always enjoyed you. Which sounds really creepy. But you know what I mean. You've always been scarily smart to me, witty and all sorts of great things that I'll sound like a suck for listing.

I am so sorry you've been dealing with this and that it happened to you at all. I hope so much that everything goes well for you and as little comfort as it might be I am here if you need someone to talk to. No matter what you decide, I hope we stay in contact and of course no matter what you decide, we'll support you.

All my thoughts are with you, to sound a little more like a Hallmark card, and your well being. Please keep us updated when you can.

love you tons and tons.

p.s sorry this message came with a great shot of tom hiddleston's impressive forehead.

lacy -

i'm not sure where to start. i've known you for so long and we've shared so many things and sites and conversations. you're one of my favourite people ever and you better believe that everything jules just said is true.

it's at times like these that you kind of wish you knew someone in real life, or lived remotely near them; it's much harder to try to be sincere and a good friend over the internet. but, regardless, i am here if you need me, and you know how to contact me in various ways. as has been said, try to keep in touch even if you leave chime because i love you.

if you need anything at all that i can possibly provide (porn readings to brighten up hospital stays?) then by all means ask

love u sm

Jesus, Lacy -- take the time you need and we will be here whenever you need the distraction. Focus on yourself! I know we're not in much regular contact off the board, but if I can be of any support please just let me know. You built an awesome community here. If you need to take a step back from it we will understand and be supportive.

dear lacy,
i love you very much and i one hundred percent agree with everyone but will chime in for myself to say how much i adore and admire you, and have for this past year or so of getting to know you. but hopefully you know that by now. i literally don't know what i would have done without you, which hopefully you know also. you are one of the most interesting, intelligent, creative, and exciting people i have had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with (on and offline) and i'm so delighted to get to be your friend. jumping in with a sappy message i guess because i think it's worth saying and because you are the best. you know where i am and that i'm willing to do whatever, whenever, that helps out. smile.gif you know how to find me.
rest lots. i'm thinking of you (lots) and sending all the best wishes i have.

my heart goes out to you lacy, it really really does. at the risk of sounding like a cracked record, i hope that everything works out for you and you get better as soon as humanely possible.

you truly are a fabulous person - hands down one of the best people i've had the pleasure of meeting online. i can't imagine what you're going through, but i can echo everyone else and say that i'm here if you need anything at all.

i'll be keeping my fingers crossed that everything works out! ily. like, a lot. get better soon<3333

lacy, i just read this! i'll be sending you all my love and prayers from chile, you're a great person, an awesome friend and i'm really glad i got to chime and had the chance to meet you and many more wonderful people.

of course, i'm here for anything you might need. geographically challenged as i may be, you can alweays reach me on aim or send me a mail if you ever feel like talking, or if you have any doubts regarding what's coming. i'm sure you had all this explained to you before, but it really isn't as bad as it sounds, i've seen lots of kidney transplantees and they have the best transplant results (i have a single kindey-ed friend and she has an absolutely normal life)

thank you guys so much for your overwhelming concern and support. this is going to sound like a hallmark card as well, but i genuinely appreciate your sentiments. and they really brightened my day and made me feel better.

umm, just to update: everything seems to be working out okay. i have a donor (thanks to my amazing family) and the doctors have been really great in reassuring me. i'm taking a medical leave from the university, so that will reduce a lot of stress too. and i think the first shock and stuff is beginning to fade, etc.

lacy, i'm really glad to hear that things are going relatively well. you're still one of the baddest badasses that i've had the privilege of meeting, so it's a good thing to hear. you and your psychological analyses and your bitchin site are just too fantastic to be stopped by kidneys. if you ever need anything, be it someone to listen or someone to make really dumb jokes or awkwardly empathize over similar problems that run in my family, you know how to get in touch with me.

So I've been awkwardly lurking in this thread and flailing about at my desk trying to figure out how to say how sorry I am that you have to deal with something that shitty, and how glad I am you have a donor, and how insanely stupid bodies can be. And basically you're a beastly young thing and deserve all the best outcomes ever and I really really want to keep knowing that you're doing okay, even though I don't know you as well as a lot of the others do, and yeah. I'd also like to say how glad I am that quantum physics are all about probabilities and the likelihood of multiple events akin to a big bang happening in a universe even larger than we can imagine means that space whales probably exist and somehow that makes alot of things okay. It doesn't fix your kidneys, but it does mean that some pretty wonderful awe-inspiring things can happen and I'd just like to say that you're one of those things.

Anyway, all the best.

Also late to the party, but I got here and I'm reading through everything and fhdlkgshjdf.

Lacy, I am so sorry that you're sick and that things weren't going so great, but I am so so so delighted to hear that someone in your family is going to be a donor for you and going to give you one of their kidneys. I hope everything with the transplant and healing goes superbly, better than expected, and whether or not you choose to come back to Chime, that everything gets back on track the way that you wanted. I only really know you within the context of Chime, but you've been amazing on here and so welcoming and friendly and funny when we've talked one-on-one. I hope everything goes beautifully and that it's all smooth-sailing.

Also a shout-out to Dr. Ari. I don't know if having her here/what she said made anyone else feel better, but it certainly made me feel better.

I've been checking this topic every day for the past 10 days (or more, actually) not knowing what to say and reading everyone's sweet comments and, Lacy, you inspire so much and so many around here, it's truly stupendous. I haven't been able to stomach that you're sick and I'm so sorry that you've become sick with this when you're so young and virile.

Even if you leave Chime, which I wouldn't blame you for, because man, you've got a lot on your plate and you still will after this is over, I hope we encounter each other some day (my dream is in Berkeley aooesjg but you'll be graduated probably by then, gdi and that school is too amazing to get into), and even if we don't, thank you so much for having made this appearance in all our lives and making all of us so happy. As cheesy as it is, I think that being here around you and everyone has made me better and is something I will carry into the rest of my life (after all, I am a toddler and children are impressionable things). You're responsible for so much of that and have been such an inspiration.

So, all the best with the transplant. Dr. Ari definitely made me feel better about the future as well, it's just quite unfortunate that you need to suffer through this at all. Oh, kidneys, I'm glad you've got a replacement coming your way. I hope everything goes smoothly and you recover quickly so you can go back to conquering the world with your wit and beauty. <3
