fourth years
Fourth years are required to take all seven core classes: Astronomy, Charms, DADA, Herbology, History of Magic, Potions, and Transfiguration. These are assumed, so you don't have to sign up for them.

In addition they may choose as many or as few (typically 2-3) of the following electives: Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, Care of Magical Creatures, Divination, and Muggle Studies.

Sixth years may only continue classes in which they received O.W.L's - though they may also choose to drop the ones they passed as well. The number of classes taken tend to be significantly fewer, as students begin concentrating more on depth than on breadth.
