Lately, he is referred to solely by his surname. There are some, however, who don't mind the familiarity of it and still call him Aegresco.

AGE

Thin, almost elegant in appearance, his wand is twelve and a quarter inch of Cypress. It contains a core of powdered Erumpent horn; this means any sharp impact, such as being dropped, can have explosive consequences.

APPEARANCE

Though he was a bit more healthy-looking in years past, he has always been on the thin side and rather pale. Over six feet and used to being tall for his age, he walks with a quiet grace very becoming of his recent condition - a lot has changed though, as well. He lacks both reflection and shadow, has become thin nearly to the point of emaciation, and often has bruise-like circles under his eyes. Remarkably sensitive to sunlight now, he avoids it quite often, and so is now of a very sallow, sometimes ashy complexion. Just as before, he wears thick, medium brown hair relatively neatly.

Though he was not one to blend into the wallpaper even before he was infected, he is not known for many of his other qualities anymore. Of all the things people find notable about Aegresco, his condition and temperament are the most whispered-about. Since he was bitten, he's become something of a pariah, and is feared/reviled by the general population of the school. To his knowledge, there are even professors who find him repulsive.

Though his personality is not otherwise obsessive, Aegresco Sanguini cannot go long without counting something. During conversation, it is more often than not that he is counting the number of words in your sentences or times that you’ve blinked. The tiles on the floor and the steps in a staircase are not exempt from his compulsion - and, of course, true to legend, neither are mustard seeds, or anything of the like. Skittering a handful of rice grains or small seeds across his desk would doubtlessly have him occupied for a fair amount of time, and it certainly is a trick he's becoming accustomed to. Despite his relatively controlled demeanor of late, he feels completely helpless to this compulsion.

Self-control has been a battle for him since he was a child. While he was not a generally violent or easily outraged person, he was never one to sit back and allow others to speak ill of him or his friends. A temper almost worthy of a Gryffindor presented a large problem in the face of his condition, however. Controlling it has suddenly become immensely important, as has the regulation of his appetite. As a result of so much self-denial, he sometimes seems like a very cold and calculated boy. Like anyone else though, he has his breaking point with any given emotion -- though he has been very obviously depressed since his infection, there are small, brief and sometimes false breaks in it.

Though it is a fairly rare occurrence for Sanguini to outwardly display affection, it is even rarer for him to do so constructively or with any amount of delicacy. Boyish in this manner more than almost any other, he has -- in the past -- been more an advocate for roughhousing to display affection than a hug. Aside from this, there are occasionally little outbursts that can be construed as displays of his affection, which usually take the form of protectiveness. Of course, now that he's a vampire, this intimidation is much, much more effective.

Aside from the few odd friendships that have withstood news, he is increasingly reserved. His private life is just that -- lately, it is uncommon for a person to know anything beyond the obvious and apparent truths. Bonds are not easily formed for Aegresco, and they never really have been; he would much rather despondently (and sometimes bitterly) observe others than make friends with them -- and perhaps this is for the best, because not many are interested in his friendship either. Despite the fact that he is prone to loneliness and depression, he keeps mostly to himself lately.

Because of the freshness of it, he has a great deal of pent-up self-hatred regarding his vampirism. Aside from the self-loathing its brought him, it has also formed a great deal of doubts and questions in his mind. In light of it all, he is self-pitying to an extreme, even if it is not immediately obvious. However, these doubts and displays are never public and seldom in the company of anyone at all -- recently, it is only in quiet introspection that he tends to find it so overwhelming.

True to his Slytherin sorting though, he is not all melancholy and unhappiness. There is a cunning side to him as well, one that lies easily and -- when he wasn't just being cheeky -- could even be exceptionally convincing. Were he still a normal, breathing boy, one might still call him capable of being smooth. As is, he is a vampire, and the best description he can really hope for is “sneaky”. This ability has been refined from youth, and even his teen years. One might not guess it now, but Aegresco has not always been so miserable; there is an adventurous, almost meddlesome sort of spirit to him. Somewhat lacking in morals and a sense of danger, he's been into a fair amount of trouble, more so back in the village that he grew up in than at Hogwarts. After all, previous to his infection, the Forest was intimidating enough to keep even Aegresco out -- most of the time.

HISTORY

Most memories of his early childhood do not include a father, and for a fairly good reason. Born on the outskirts of a small and relatively remote Muggle village to parents who were older than most, he lost his father at a young age. The child of a widow who never remarried (both due to age and poor health), he had few complaints about his childhood that did not have to do with lack of money or lack of children nearby. As he grew older, he grew into a very adventurous young boy, and spent many mornings (and afternoons and evenings) exploring the woods around his home.

Even his mother becoming more and more ill did not seem to stamp out the young boy's humor entirely -- he did, however, gradually become more reserved. Rather more serious than the average boy (and vastly more than most others in the village), it was apparent from a young age that he was a clever boy. However obvious it was from mature viewpoints or cheeky little remarks, his grades did not reflect it. In his earlier years of schooling, the only things he ever seemed to apply himself to were mathematics and science -- very much to his mother's disappointment.

By the time he was nearing seven years old, his mother's illness had become so exacerbated from working and caring for her son that the truth could no longer be ignored. Mrs. Sanguini was dying, and after a few painful and confusing talks with her son, she began to arrange for her own death. Too young to truly comprehend it but very aware of what was happening, Aegresco didn't say a word as the neighbor ladies filed in with food and kind words and forehead-kissing; he even accompanied his mother to the funeral parlor. During several sessions and 'talks for adults', he was pushed into a friendship with the decidedly-stranger-than-himself Eldred Worple.

Despite their differences and their respective ineptitudes, the two were fairly quick to take to one another. Perhaps due to the other's eagerness to please and his own coercive and trouble-making tendencies, they made fast friends. Pulling the other into mischief was easy, and that was enough of a basis for a friendship for Aegresco -- often, he'd make the long walk up on his own to see the boy, cutting through the woods nearly every time.

He was eight years old when his mother passed away, and by then, a lot of things had changed. As the pain faded, he came to realize (and appreciate) the people who'd ended up taking him in: the Worples. Well-intentioned but a little distant, Eldred's parents looked after the both of them with two very distracted, very lax pairs of eyes. This new lifestyle, complete with homeschooling, seemed to suit Aegresco just fine -- thanks to it, he grew into an even more meddlesome, exploratory sort. Eldred, of course, was subjected to many of his little adventures, which included setting coins on the tracks to be flattened, catching little river creatures and climbing ancient, creaky trees in the woods near their home.

As a remarkably sheltered and uninformed boy, Hogwarts was a bit shocking to him; his only consolation was that he was in the same year as Eldred. However, they were sorted into separate houses -- him in Slytherin, and his friend in Ravenclaw. Though he thought this might be an opportunity to make friends in his own House and expand his horizons, he was quick to discover how cold and intimidating the dungeons were to a Halfblood. Not the type to take criticism lying down, he made a few enemies of his housemates -- this, however, did not really transfer to other members of his year. While he did have a few acquaintances in his own House, most of his closer friends lied outside it.

As he grew steadily more reckless with his own personal safety, he became rather familiar to the villages few policeman. Whether it be pointless vandalism, breaking into an abandoned old barn or stealing apples from a neighbor's trees, he was caught breaking the law several times in several less-than-serious ways. Escorted home every time and punished almost never, he didn't seem to learn his lesson. It wasn't until Christmas holiday of his sixth year that his reckless behavior got him into any trouble; the woods were apparently home to more than just animals, and his brush with a vampire left him infected as well.

In his opinion, it was nothing short of a miracle that the Worples didn't throw him out then -- and he couldn't imagine what amazing luck had kept him enrolled in Hogwarts. Professor Dumbledore's role, perhaps rather unfortunately, would not be revealed to him when he returned. Eldred's easy acceptance of his friend's state had not prepared him for the derision he would face at Hogwarts, and he found friends vanishing all at once. It was over the next year that he withdrew, despite his best friend's awkward efforts, and lately, it's become fairly difficult to get a conversation out of Aegresco.
