Tall and slender, Cynthia's build lends to a very feminine look, allowing her to wear nearly any fashion, muggle or magical. Usually she takes advantage of that, wearing the most fashionable things she can get her hands on - whether it be stylish dresses with cinched waists, or shirt/skirt combinations with floral accessories. (all at a sensible calf length, of course) Most of the time she can be found wearing her school uniform and robe, with sensible black, flat shoes. Even still, Cynthia always carries herself with poise and grace, as a woman should.

When she smiles, her blue eyes smile along with her somewhat thin lips. She tends to smile a lot, actually, even if it usually is a fake smile nowadays. Her hair - long, flowing and red - is something that many are jealous of, because it is naturally voluminous but not overly so. Generally speaking, Cynthia is a well presented, well dressed, and well groomed young woman.

Cynthia's reputation is dependent on who one asks. If someone the Porcelains have scorned, it is obvious that their reply will be that she is vile, loathesome, and horrendous. Most see her as beautiful, popular, athletic and social, which is exactly what she is. To be quite frank, her reputation is as a popular girl. Manipulated it can go either way.

In the last year, her reputation and standing have plummeted to new lows, the likes of which Cynthia has never seen. That said, she is still one of the more popular and affluent females at Hogwarts.

Cynthia is a charismatic, sociable young woman with an attractive personality despite the dark side to it that she hardly ever shows.

Cynthia does not tolerate argument from anyone who challenges her opinions, for once she has reached a conclusion, its truth seems to her very self-evident; and among her faults is an impatience of criticism and a greed for approval. That being said, her character is on the whole balanced, diplomatic and even tempered.

She is also sensitive to the needs of others and has the gift of understanding the emotional needs of her companions and meeting them with her own innate optimism - she has the innate ability to make someone happy or to crush them, because she is great at finding others' weaknesses and using them to her advantage. She is a very social human being. She loathes cruelty, viciousness and vulgarity and detest conflict between her own group of friends, so they does her best to cooperate and compromise with those in her inner circle, since her ideal for her own circle and for society as a whole is unity.

That said, her impatience for criticism and even more for betrayal outweighs her desire for unity. She has a highly mean streak, once crossed, that leads her to passive-aggressively plan the downfall of those who have upset her in any given way. She has the tendency to plan meticulously before she attacks, something that Cynthia learned from her years of quidditch playing. She prefers to make plans and follow them than to act rashly.

She likes the opposite sex to the extent of promiscuity, and tends to indulge in romanticism bordering on sentimentality. Unfortunately, she jumps into relationships without her usual planning, and tends to get bored, then engage in frivolity, flirtatiousness, and subsequently shallow behaviours that lead to the end of most of her romantic endeavours. She prefers the idea of romance to the reality of it.

In terms of schoolwork, some consider her lazy, but that is not the case. The Gryffindor simply doesn't like coarse, dirty work - or rather, things that are not practically useful. She is actually very ambitious and though knows it isn't likely, would one day like to pursue a career in law, since she is finding more and more that she is highly interested in the idea of justice.

HISTORY

The Wood family never was very affluent in Wizarding society. Their money wasn't old money, like the House of Black or Malfoy had. Contrarily, they were a farming family who made their money the hard way; by working for it. Cynthia's father, Cailean, was born a pureblooded wizard, but once finishing at Hogwarts moved away from his parents in Edinburgh and into Perth, a nearby city. He there set up his own business, one of many locomotive companies in the area. He chose not to use magic to make his living, as he was fascinated by muggles and was always rather good at tinkering with things - trains included. He quickly became a leader in the industry when the North British Locomotive Company purchased his business and took him on as an executive. Shortly thereafter, he met his wife-to-be, a french tourist who happened to be visiting the Scottish city with her family. They met one night out at the local hot spot, and hit it off immediately, despite him not always understanding her accent. They had a whirlwind Romance before Olivia married Cailean, and the Wood family started.

Shortly thereafter, Cynthia's brother was born. Donald was, of course, his father's pride and joy. A son was a great blessing, according to both Cynthia's parents as well as all four grandparents. As far as Cailean and Olivia were concerned, their family unit was happily complete. That was why, about six months after Donald was born, when Cynthia was conceived, her parents weren't exactly pleased. She was an error in judgement; the result of a drunken night with friends while their son was with his grandparents.

Her father didn't resent having another mouth to feed, and her mother was happy to have another female around the house who wasn't the hired help (of which their was plenty in their manor home just outside the city) but even still, it was evident which child was the favourite. As the two grew, so did the resentment that Cynthia held for her brother, however deep down she hid it. He was always kind to her, and her parents always favoured him. She never stepped out of line, doing everything that her governess told her to do, and keeping every toe in line. She was the picture of perfection, but still, not given the time of day by her parents.

When she showed her first sign of magic, a fire she'd set by accident one night when ill, in the hearth found in her own bedroom, Cynthia's father explained to his family about Hogwarts, the wizarding world, and everything that went along with it. Along with all his explanation, he told them of the wizarding sport, Quidditch. Within weeks, her father had a set of quidditch balls and was teaching his son how to play. The eight year old Cynthia, jealous as ever, wanted to play, too - so she weasled her way into learning. She took to it quickly, much more quickly than her brother did, and she used it as a way to get closer to her father. The novelty faded quickly, and though Cynthia continued to play, her brother didn't. The affection given from her father because of her skill quickly faded, and so as she turned nine, and then ten, she began thinking up elaborate plots to get attention from her parents, though none of them seemed to work and they continued to dote on her brother rather than her.

She thought, once Don left for Hogwarts, that things would change and that she would get more attention, but that didn't seem to be the case. Her parents just started going out more, leaving the ten year old in the care of her governess. The only time they would talk to her would be about Donald, really, and she slowly began to resent him even more.

Finally, when Cynthia got her Hogwarts letter and eventually got to Hogwarts, she decided that she was going to be better than Donald at everything. She, similarly to her brother, was sorted into Gryffindor, but immediately befriended her dorm mates, a group of girls who (even at age eleven) seemed to carry a certain power with them.

Despite being a halfblood, and despite not being from an affluent family, Cynthia quickly grew in popularity and in terms of influence. Being as she had been practicing quidditch in the Scottish countryside for so long, in addition to her naturally athletic nature, she excelled in Flying, and because of her wand, did well in Charms. Before the third week of her first year, she'd fallen behind in potions, because precision was never her strong suit, but even still, she did well for herself. Better than Donald, which was what she had always intended.

She didn't get onto the quidditch team in first year, but was lucky enough that a chaser graduated so she did in her second, which was a joyous occassion for Cynthia because it was something Donald never accomplished. Besides that, it made her a very well rounded girl, in terms of being able to communicate with popular students, as well as athletic ones. Her poor academics led her to get a tutor, and suddenly Cynthia found that she was very well connected, something that put her ahead of her affluent peers - the Porcelains, who she was quickly becoming the leader of.

Becoming queen bee, though, also meant that she needed to trod upon some of the less-important students, something that Cynthia did with glee, only because she imagined each person she stepped on as a step closer to the pedestal that Donald was sat upon. She saw herself becoming quietly catty, being very blase about scathing insults falling from her lips in a most passive aggressive way, and she found, by her fourth year, that she was better than Donald could ever hope to be.

Until, that is, she realized just how horrible she and her friends were being. Being as honest (and blunt) as she was, Cynthia didn't like the idea of the amount of gossip she and her friends were spreading, she didn't like that they were causing unnecessary, third parties strife. She mentioned this to Betty, who took it to heart in all the wrong ways, and found herself as the victim of a vicious rumour.

Now, in her fifth year, she has decided that she will do whatever it takes to be who she was at the start of the year before. So much for being forthright. After all, her fourth year made it clear to Cynthia that nice guys finish last.

QUOTE

Her body ached.

It had been a particularly rough night, and Katie's whole being hurt. She'd had the dream again - nightmare, to be more accurate. Tonight's, however, was a tad different.

She'd not been walking back from Hogsmeade - and she'd been alone. In actuality, the dream had been set in her family home, at Christmas. Her family was always big on Christmas - secretive about gifts, a large, full tree - but strangely, none of them were around. It was just... her. Alone. There was only one gift under the tree - only one, another oddity, since there was always a huge pile. She pulled it towards herself without even the tiniest sense of trepidation, something that looking back she found odd. When she opened the wrapping, though, there it was.

The Amulet.

She'd not touched it but the pain came back, searing as ever, without her permission. Her face had contorted, and her hands jerked in reaction to seeing it. With that jerking movement, though, the amulet flew into the air and somehow (the magic of dreams) it landed in the way a necklace would, sliding over her brown hair and onto her neck. The metal was cool, but it was quickly replaced by a violent and searing heat, her body contorting with pain and a sweat breaking out over her whole body.

That was when she woke up. The Muggle clock she'd bought with the boxy red neon letters red 1:54. She'd tried to catch her breath, her heart racing in a way it hadn't since she'd played quidditch for Oliver. It was two am, and Katie rolled out of bed, stumbling along the hallway and into her kitchen.

That was where she remained, reading old copies of Quidditch Weekly with a glass of wine that remained barely touched, until six in the morning. Her body protested when she moved, and she had dark circles under her eyes when she got in the shower, but she'd made it to work on time, and looking decent.

Now, it was lunch time. Though the morning had dragged on, Katie felt she'd handled each memo and file well - she'd done what anyone would do on three and a half hours of sleep. She stayed at her desk, not interested in socializing with the giggling gaggle of secretaries hired for their legs instead of their brains - since most of them were sat about giggling about certain aurors a year her junior who just happened to be drop dead gorgeous.

No, she wasn't interested in hearing it today.

Katie heaved a sigh of exhaustion as she pulled out her lunch from the tiny bag she kept under her desk, a sip of the ice cold water she'd packed soothing her aching head as she shifted to sit atop her right foot. She poked about in her salad with her fork before taking a bite, feeling sort of nauseous even for that tiny bit of food. That was why she was glad for the distraction of one of her coworkers, handing her a file.

But not to worry! We really like what you've done with Cynthia, and we're ready to accept her if you're willing to make a few tweaks.

QUOTE
Cynthia has good critical faculty and is able to stand back and look impartially at matters which call for an impartial judgment to be made on them. However, she does not tolerate argument from anyone who challenges her opinions, for once she has reached a conclusion, its truth seems to her very self-evident;

This seems a bit contradictory to me. Someone with exceptional critical faculty and an impartial judgment tends to be able to listen to all sides of an argument, rather than forming an attachment to her own point of view. IE, being impartial is by definition being tolerative of other arguments. Perhaps amend one of these attributes or tone both of them down?

QUOTE
She is also sensitive to the needs of others and has the gift, sometimes to an almost psychic extent, of understanding the emotional needs of her companions and meeting them with their own innate optimism - she has the innate ability to make someone infinitely happy or to crush them completely, because she understands their emotional desires.

Maybe it's just the language, but this rings a little absolutist to me. Having a psychic-like ability to understand others, capable of making them infinitely happy or infinitely despairing - these are significant claims, especially considering the complexities and variabilities of the human race. It's definitely great for her to be socially intuitive, but maybe not to that extent? And if to that extent, perhaps offer some explanation for how she is able to reach that level of deductive power?

Lastly - you mentioned she was indecisive as one of her weaknesses, which I didn't see in her personality. Could you reconcile this?

Thank you!

Additional comments: thanks for making those changes! Cynthia is lovely, and so is your writing style. I really like that you've incorporated all the aspects of the request, but also added your own dimension to her; for example, her passion for justice ties in well with her conceptualization. On a personal note, I'm really excited to see the character in action!

Cynthia will be rooming with Betty, Priscilla, and Augusta in her dormitory.
