THEO is perfectly lovely and preferred, seeing as Theophilius is far too long for his tastes. It is reserved for anyone in particular. Hell, he'd prefer if even people he didn't particularly know called him THEO.

Unicorn hair and oak, 11 inches. It's a bit rough and rigid, but it does fairly decent Transfiguration work. However, most of the subjects that Theo finds himself interested in don't contain much skillful wand work.

Theo is tall, but not extremely so. He’s about 5’11”, with big arms and shoulders but a narrow waist. His size lends itself to someone who is actively athletic, someone who exercise fairly often, and who thrives on sport. . He’s a skinny kind of fit, however, whose muscles aren’t really that noticeable from underneath layers of clothing.

<br><br>

Theo's hair is a well controlled wave of curls, all dark brown in the sunlight and nearly black in the faint light of the castle. Theo can't really come up with a color to describe his eyes, but they are a dark grey color, flecked with little bits of blue and green. He’s got thick eyebrows that convey his expressions very well. He has sort of a boyish face, with a roundish nose, a pale complexion, and fairly full lips. He tends to grow facial hair rather quickly, and if he doesn't keep up with shaving, he could grow a beard or a goatee in under two days.

Theo has ended up with the reputation of being the 'nice guy', though there are times where he most assuredly does not appreciate the title. People assume he is easy to manipulate, easy to get on their side, and to be honest that's usually true. The kind of kid you could steal notes from, or ask to borrow their paper in order to 'compare' while in reality, you're basically copying it word for word. He's the type to listen to your problems, and try to give you sound advice, though it's not often that he's listened to. Regardless, he's made a name for himself as a confidante, even though it doesn't always give him time to deal with his own problems.

Theo is one of those people that doesn't like to see anyone else upset. He'll be the first person to let someone cry on his shoulder, then be happy to beat the shit out of the person who made them upset. He's friendly to most people, which can put him in the middle of conflicts, especially when he wants everyone to be happy when they very well can't. He's a bit overprotective of people that he cares about; if he views someone as 'practically his sister', he will be the one to step up to any boy to 'defend her honor' because there's part of him that really wanted siblings.<br><br>

There are points, of course, where he gets slightly frustrated by it all. He's always willing to listen to everyone else's problems, but he feels ignored when no one wonders if something's bothering him. Taking on the world's problems, on top of your own, could leave anyone slightly stressed at the end of the day. He has a high tolerance for frustration, but has been known to lash out momentarily before apologizing profusely to whoever happened to be caught by his temper.
<br><br>

Love has never been Theo's strength. He has liked a few girls, of course, but has been tossed into the friends zone very quickly. He is a bit shy about these things, thinking them too delicate to talk about openly. Theo has always been a bit of a romantic - the type who wants to find the love of his life, settle down, get married and have a big family right out of Hogwarts. That is to say, he has high expectations for his women, and isn't playing around when he finds someone that he actually does like and shows interest in.
<br><br>

Despite his failings in romance and his frustration as the 'good guy', Theo does his best to be a humble and chivalrous person. If his parents raised him to be anything, it was a gentleman. No snide comments issue from his mouth. He addresses people of any sort of higher status with 'sir' or 'ma'am'. His jargon can be formal at times, even beyond the social norm, though he doesn't notice that he speaks differently from people his own age.

</div><br><br><div style="“font-family: arial;padding: 2px; text-align:center; font-weight: bold; letter-spacing: 2px; font-size: 11px; color: #333333;”">HISTORY</div><div style="background-color: #f1f1f1; color: #363636; -moz-border-radius: 10px; -webkit-border-radius: 10px; padding: 8px; height: 350px; overflow: auto;">

Pauline Grey didn’t consort with the best kind of people. It wasn’t to say that she didn’t care for herself, but she found the company of men that often weren’t good for her. She lived by herself in a small town in Northern Scotland that was well known to the wizarding community – but not to the muggles, unless you counted the legends – to be the home of a fairly large wizarding community.
<br><br>
For Pauline, the young man who wandered into town from the commune was a dream come true – handsome, charming, all the makings of a good husband. He probably didn't think the same of her, but was interested in one thing. It didn’t take long for the man to get what he wanted, leaving Pauline hanging high and dry—but it only took two months for Pauline to find out she had a bun in the oven. And by then, her potential husband had vanished back to the commune in the North and Pauline was left without anyone to care for her. Times being what they were, and her family being who they were, the idea of a woman raising a child on her own was never acceptable.
<br><br>
Instead, she gave birth and simply slipped out of the hospital before anyone had noticed she’d gone.
<br><br>
The unnamed baby boy was placed into an adoption agency and soon enough adopted by a young couple who just couldn’t seem to get pregnant no matter how much they tried. The couple, Charles and Clio Kirke, were happy to bring a happy and apparently healthy baby boy into their lives, regardless of his past, which they were uninformed about by the adoption agency. Better leave unpleasant things unsaid, they thought, handing the baby over to its new family.
<br><br>
Arriving home with them to a pleasant little town near Edinburgh, they named him Theophilius James Kirke, his first name for Charles’ father and his middle for Clio’s father. And suddenly baby Theo was part of a loving family. A loving muggle family who didn’t know what the hell they were getting themselves into.
<br><br>
At first, Charles and Clio didn’t really put two and two together. Theo wasn't a particularly good baby when it came to sleeping, and would often cry during the night. The two new parents dismissed it; babies cried, though usually lights didn't flicker everytime they did. They grew accustomed to it, and it became part of their normalcy. Theo grew into a happy toddler, eager for adventure and learning which occasionally led to a scraped knee or palms. But he was simply a normal child, except for a few incidents that were simply dismissed or ignored by his two parents.
<br><br>
It wasn’t until he turned eight that the Kirkes realized what they had gotten themselves into. They had taken a trip into the country to see members of Charles’ family. The family owned a small farm, and Theo had been ever so excited to see the cows. Except there were no cows, only sheep. He had pouted the whole afternoon, then wandered outside. When his parents went to find him, they saw that all the sheep’s wool in the pasture had been turned into spotted cow’s coats.
<br><br>
That day was discussed only once and then never spoken of again, the Kirkes deciding to simply drop it and hope that nothing like it ever happened again. And it didn’t and the Kirkes thought they were safe. Until the Hogwarts professor showed up on Theo’s eleventh birthday, talking crazy things about magic and wizards and Theo being one of them. Unsure as how to get this insane person out of their house, they simply agreed with them and suddenly their son was being whisked out of the house to go buy his supplies for the school he was supposed to be attending in less than a month.
<br><br>
Theo, meanwhile, had always thought he was special. All of his life he had felt a swarm of emotions and power that he still didn’t understand. He had made things happen in his life without meaning to. But now, it all seemed to make sense. This person, this witch, as she told him she was, was making his life into something more than he’d always wanted it to be.
<br><br>
He had gotten himself his books, his wand, and an owl because that was supposed to be the standard thing to have at Hogwarts according to the professor, and then on September 1st, he followed another boy with an owl through the brick wall that led to Platform 9 3/4s. It was all new and strange and wonderful and he loved it. He pestered some other first years to learn about Hogwarts and the magical world and all of that junk. Apparently, he was what was called a ‘muggleborn’ and that suited him just fine.
<br><br>
Theo was sorted into Gryffindor, seeing as he didn’t know anything about the different houses and therefore didn’t have much of a preference when the Sorting Hat was placed on his head. The Hat seemed be pleased at this. Besides, thinking about the song later that night, Gryffindor had sounded quite exciting to him.
<br><br>
Theo Kirke became an average student. He loved all of his subjects that allowed him to get his feet wet in the world of magic. He was the one exploding feathers when trying to make them float, the one covered in dirt after Herbology, the first one to ask the Transfiguration professor when they’d be doing actual transfiguration. He was particularly interested in Defense Against the Dark Arts his first year, where they covered magical creatures.
<br><br>
The next few years went by as average as any Hogwarts student’s. Theo fell in love with Care of Magical Creatures when he started it in third year, as well as Divination. He thoroughly enjoyed making up prophecies and such, finding the whole subject ludicrous but fulfilling. When it came to the bigots and pureblood supremacists, Theo was the type to avoid conflict, though he obviously was bothered by those people. He would defend himself as much as he could, then sulk off to lick his wounds. Revenge was never in his dictionary, nor did he ever want to sink to their level.
<br><br>
Love certainly wasn't something that Theo excelled at during his years at Hogwarts, especially even now as a sixth year. He'd had his fair share of girls he's been attracted to, of course, but was practically shot into the friends zone with nearly every girl that happened with.

QUOTE

sorting ceremony post from a post-potter site

Charles was such a fucking liar.

Of course, Emilia should have known that, but she really had been expecting dragons to be guarding the doors of Hogwarts. It was sort of a disappointment when she looked up at the great oak doors that lead into the castle and couldn't seen a dragon anywhere in sight. She crossed her little arms, tossing her red hair so that it fell over the sides of her face like curtains as she wondered vaguely what else he had lied about.

He'd probably lied all about the walking suites of armor too. And the squid in the lake. Though she could have sworn that when she stuck her hand in the water while on the boats, she'd felt something slimy touch against it. All of the other first years had looked so frightened when she had proclaimed that she had just touched the giant squid, all shifting uncomfortably to the far end of the boat. What a bunch of babies they'd been.

Now an older person, a professor Emilia told herself, was saying something about how they were about to be sorted and what not. Emilia's hand tightened around her wand as a nervous habit. The professor exited for a moment and Emilia, who was standing near a wall, leaned against it, a small smirk on her lips. She heard other students muttering stupid things about which house they were going to be in and which ones were better than others. Her brother had told her all about the different houses, so she knew exactly what she was going to do when it came time.

She'd have to fight not to be a goddamn Gryffindor like that git.

The professor reentered the room and in a queue, the first years followed behind her, nervous as sheep about to go to slaughter. The Great Hall was lit with candles and, what would you know, Charles hadn't lied about the ceiling being like the sky, glistening with stars. They clumped around the front of the hall, and Emilia glanced around at the different tables, doing her best to ignore any looks she was getting from the Gryffindor table.

Oh, and there was the hat. Dad had told her about that. It sat on the bench and she wasn't as shocked as some of the other students when it opened up and began to sing. Emilia barely paid any attention. She knew the whole Hogwarts history with the founders and different houses. She just wanted to get this whole thing over with.

Finally they started calling names, and first years nervously pulled on the hat. It seemed like a fairly even mix, much to her surprise. She was fairly sure that most of the kids would get stuck in some lame ass house like Hufflepuff. They made it through about half the group when Emilia's name was called. Inhaling and exhaling with a grin, she pranced up to the hat, pulling it onto her head.

Ah, a Bennett, eh? I've seen your father and brother come under me than. Both were quite successful in Gryffindor. Maybe you would do well there as well?

Emilia had barely gotten over the shock of hearing the hat speak inside her head when he started going on about putting her in Gryffindor. She was about to speak, telling him 'fuck no, she wouldn't be a Gryffindor,' but he seemed to be able to read her mind because he went on.

Not Gryffindor? Why? You would fit in right along with... Ah, I see. A chance to prove yourself, to not follow in their footsteps? Very well. You're not Ravenclaw make, and I fear for my safety if I placed you in Hufflepuff. Better be...

"SLYTHERIN." The last word resonated both in Emilia's mind and across the entire hall. The green and silver table erupted in applause, and Emilia ripped the hat off her head, practically sprinting to the table and taking the first empty seat. She glanced behind her at the Gryffindor table, made a rude gesture at her brother, then turned back to introduce herself to her new house

Additional comments: This is a very detailed characterisation of a very endearing and interesting character. I find it very appealing how you differentiate Theo by way of small, realistic details rather than huge crisis or drama. I look forward to seeing more of him. Excited to have you on Chime and to have Theo also. Welcome!

Theo will be rooming with Caractacus Burke and Kennilworthy Whisp in his dormitory. ):
