Mila's physical appearance is among her more notable features. Born a half veela, her looks tend to reflect society's ideal woman. She's got white blonde hair that falls just past her shoulders, and blue eyes, almost birdlike in shape. At times, she's got large bags under her eyes from staying up incredibly late into the night reading. Her nose is average, as are her ears. There's an angular quality to her body shape, not quite soft enough to be feminine, but more so reflecting her Harpy heritage. Mila, when in a foul mood, can be seen sprouting feathers and scales from her shoulders, and her face elongates into that of a bird. She's transformed enough times that her shoulders have retained a small bit of the scaly texture, due to the mix of human in her blood. (It would appear only a full veela could transform without any residual effects.) Mila wishes she could have inherited more of her father's normal traits, but is stuck bearing the marks of her Slavic female predecessors. As such, her looks do attract a fair amount of attention from Hogwart's male population, however her somewhat solitary nature makes her uncomfortable with such attention.

Those that do know her, or have classes with her have likely been exposed to her sarcastic sense of humor, and general dislike for being around loud people. Her temper has a bit of notoriety, but then that's only fair given that most people don't change into an ugly bird when they get really ticked. People tend to be cautious around Mila- not really certain what to expect from the blond girl. While most males don't tease her, for reasons beyond Mila's control, she has had a fair amount of trouble when it comes to Hogwart's female population. As it stands, she prefers to distance herself from both. She has been known to showcase a softer side to those that have earned her trust, and can be quite the animated girl when talking about slavic mythology, or potions.

One might expect a girl with such a meticulously crafted exterior to have a matching sort of attitude. Such is not the case with Mila Svetkova. Having been raised primarily by her Father, she lacks the necessary social graces that one might expect a woman of her era to demonstrate. Mila is not particularly feminine in her dress, nor mannerisms. With no female guide to show her the little tricks of makeup, or hairstyling or even proper attire, the girl finds herself looking to roommates and the like for such advice. She has a strong desire to fit in with those around her, and so often conforms to the trends and styles of Hogwarts at the time. Mila prefers the sense of comfort and assimilation provided by her school uniform, however, and likes to wear that as much as possible. Derived from her own Father's crispness, Mila demonstrates the same sense of stiffness and neatness in her own attire. One can not, after all, make a good impression looking sloppy!
<br><br>
In the classroom, Mila exhibits the sort of behaviour one might expect from someone in Ravenclaw. She listens attentively to the lectures, preferring not to pass notes or whisper with others while the professor is speaking. Her homework is always done in a timely manner, and always turned in on crisp, unwrinkled parchment. She absolutely detests group projects, and oftentimes, rather than risk having to work with someone she might not get along with, will offer to do the brunt of the work herself. When it comes to potions in particular, Mila thrives. She will willingly participate in discussions, and add her own theories about brewing of potions, and magical qualities of certain ingredients. Her knowledge of potioneering comes in handy for one of her favorite hobbies- experimenting. At present, it is a goal of her's to create a potion that will quell the inherited traits of her veela's blood.
<br><br>
Because of limited social interactions as a child, Mila has come to be terribly shy in any sort of company. Her interactions often come across as halted, and practiced. Other times, she completely panics and just sort of stammers out what might be considered to be conversation. She's never been terribly fond of male company, and hates that her genetics make her predisposed to be some sort of objectified thing to them. It's not so much that she's not fond of male company- more so that she tends to shy away from any sort of interaction whatsoever. She's not extremely adept at "hanging out" with girlfriends either, as she finds the nuances of conversation to be beyond her. Mila might be thought to be a bit paranoid, in that she often thinks people are making fun of her amidst conversation. This is a generally misguided perception on her part, and fosters the sense of hostility she has towards "normal" people.
<br><br>
Like any normal teenager, Mila really just wants to fit in. She's smart yes, but more so book smart than common sense smart. She genuinely tries to be nice and deferential to those around her, but more often than not freezes and is met with failure. Mila sometimes practices proper social interactions in front of her mirror, smiling and mimicking those gestures she sees other girls do. In practice, however, she's not quite so confident. It is a goal of hers to one day be competent in social interactions, and gain the same sort of confidence demonstrated by those around her. Sometimes, she becomes frustrated with herself and this seeps into her interactions. It is for this reason that Mila has gained a bit of a reputation for having a bad attitude. Her seclusion, some people may misinterpret to mean Mila thinking herself better than others, the reason often cited as her veela's blood. During this seclusion, she spends her time studying, or researching Slavic mythology- anything to understand her condition and what may come of it.

The details surrounding Mila's conception are rather foggy to the young girl. She's yet to get the full details from her Father, but what she does know extends as such: her Father, Viktor Svetkova was returning to Bulgaria to visit the land of his forefathers. As a young man, he had always been curious to explore the land his great-grandfather spoke so nobly of and it seemed the perfect time to do so, what with having been recently graduated from Hogwarts and such. The boy took in the sights, and along the way, met a beautiful blond woman. Her charms and looks were unlike anything he had ever seen before, and so he pursued her. For the few weeks he was there, Viktor and the female spent many hours together, culminating in a couple of nights together. Viktor was completely enamored, and though he knew he had to return to England, promised to one day return when he had enough money, and make her his wife. One year later, he did as much returning to meet the woman. He brought an engagement ring; she brought a child, only a few months old and a vehement "no" to his marriage proposal. The rest of the story- all those lovely little details, Viktor refuses to tell his daughter.
<br><br>
For the most part, her childhood was passed in relative anonymity. Viktor knew that her mother was a veela, and so it was highly likely the child would exhibit traits similar to those of her kind. Her Father's guess proved to be quite correct- once at the age of three years old, Mila was playing with a some of her father's potioneering equipment and managed to break a rather expensive set of flasks. Viktor yelled at his daughter, and was rather surprised to see scales form through her clothing, as well as a beak protrude from her face. From that moment on, he was very reluctant to let her play with the neighboring children. Mila was instead given all manner of toys, pets, and things to play with, and gently pushed away from interaction with those children in her neighborhood. Her budding looks, as well, might have drawn questions, and so it seemed better than she be kept in solitude. The young Svetkova girl was allowed to study- potions especially. Having a potioneer for father meant Mila was given close proximity to the field, and with her Father's guidance, was allowed to experiment some. She continued to study and read, and had very little social interaction, aside from her father. In time, she grew to prefer the company of her books and pets. Yes, the girl was allowed to go out and play as she grew older and had more control over her temper, but Mila found she preferred solitude, for the most part. Her looks drew awkward attention from boys and the forced social interactions made her uncomfortable; contrastingly, girls were seemingly irritated by her and so Mila avoided their company as well.
<br><br>
Like her father before her, Mila received her letter to Hogwarts on her eleventh birthday. The two sat down and discussed the pros and cons of attendance, and the girl's curiosity was such that she strongly desired to go. The Sorting Hat placed her into Ravenclaw, citing her intelligence as the primary reason for doing so. Mila passed her first year with relative ease- she didn't interact much with people, and there was no reason for her temper to flare. Granted, Mila did spend a large part of her time harbored in her dorm, trying to avoid anyone and everyone. Come second year however, there was a fairly large altercation with a fellow student, wherein Mila fully transformed into her vulture-like counterpart, throwing a fireball at her fellow student. It was at this point that word got out she was indeed part veela, and that is when things began to grow difficult. As preteens and young teenage girls are so apt to do, teasing began and the Svetkova girl grew to distrust her classmates more and more. Her hostility grew to the point where she refused to interact other classmates, excepting an as needed basis. Jokes about her halfbreed status bothered her to no end. The attention she received was unlike anything she had experienced in her sheltered youth, and so genuinely frustrated and confused, she would hide in her rooms, or in the Potions classroom.
<br><br>
Mila has come a long way since then- her anger and resentment towards those "normal" people that once teased her has quelled somewhat with therapy. She learned to find solace in studying more about her "people" and learning the mythological reasoning behind the transformations- and one day hopes to find a cure of sorts. Studying is an outlet for her aggression- something that seems to happen a lot when she is around fellow students. Interaction has allowed her to normalise somewhat- she's collected a small number of friends, and allows the teasing to roll off of her back a little more. Mila is still learning to recognize when the veela traits are about to flash, and so is pursuing the proper knowledge to keep those suppressed. In the meantime, she is avidly pursuing good grades, and trying to assimilate into normal wizarding society the best she can.
