Via The Kalamazoo Objectivist comes news that a California congressman is introducing some long overdue tax-code reform:

QUOTE ('Wall Street Journal')
California Republican John Campbell yesterday introduced in the House his "Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is Act," which would amend the tax code to allow individuals to make voluntary donations to the federal government above their normal tax liability. The bill would place a new line on IRS tax forms to make this easy.

Mr. Campbell says he has heard the "cries" of those wealthy Americans – Mrs. Clinton, Warren Buffett, Barbra Streisand – who reject the lower tax rates passed in 2001 and 2003 and complain that they and their fellow rich don't pay enough. "It's a great injustice that citizens wishing to fulfill their dream of paying more taxes cannot simply check a box on their 1040 form to make a donation," he says. His bill would give liberals a chance to salve their consciences without having to raise taxes on millions of Americans who already feel overtaxed as it is.

A good point, which I applaud, but I don't predict that it will discourage altruist-statists in the least from their crusade to tax the life out of everyone. As I said before:

QUOTE ('Me')
Shackling you to this brutal code [of altruism] which declares that you are nothing more than a chattel slave – that is the goal of the altruists; of the welfare statists. That is why they are so cavalier about forcing you to participate, rather than paying out of their own pockets.

Because it isn’t money they’re after – it is your very right to exist.

If you value that right, then you would do well to sit up and take notice, because if Altruism continues to run its course through this society, it won’t be here for long.

The very concept of a tax is force. If they wanted it to be voluntary, they wouldn't institute a tax - regardless of rate - to begin with.

Quite so - and this is a truth which is so mired down in the existence and history of the welfare state that they can't even conceive of it.

Taxes aren't really used to fund the government anymore, really. They are a tool used by politicians to buy votes.

"Look ar Mr. Democrat making the evil rich guy with his SUV pay his fair share!" rolleyes.gif

All of our tax forms should be one single line - "How much would you like to contribute to the government this year?" I won't hold my breath until that happens. wink.gif

Of course kill the income tax as well. smile.gif

Sure. They learned long ago they could do it with currency debasement alone.

You beat me too it. But I wanted to add that some very prominent members of The Republican Party and there supporters (voters) (and probably the Democrats too) actually gain quite a bit of cash in there pocket from the debasement of the currency.

I'm really not even worried about tax rates anymore, not as much as inflation.
