QUOTE (Wannabe capitalist @ Sep 10 2006, 02:32 PM)
I have to go with coca cola as well.

About 90% of what I drink is soda of one kind or another, so I'll have to agree with that one.

This thread is long expired, but I must add to it. I think that Dubai is a good modern example of a capitalist wonder. Actually, I want to move there.

I would fear to move there. The freedom there exists by permission, not by right. Also, the neighbors are less than ideal.

It can be argued that freedom here is being taken away with a similar end. Of course we still have our guns, but this is a last resort that will give us slightly more than a Masada-like ending choice. Not to be pessimistic (though I obviously am), but our neighbors aren't much better. "Socialist" revolution sweeping South America, and Mexico barely hanging on.

Indeed, but for now I am less frightened to live here. Whatever the status of our freedoms de facto, there is a far superior de jure establishment of individual rights here. What they have is merely the relaxation of tyranny.

Faded though it may be, what we have is a state explicitly establishing individual rights.

That's worth a lot.

But, anyway, yeah good for them. Best of luck and all that.

Agreed. But Dubai sure is pretty.

Reminds me of the golden age of city-states. Has a certain Carthaginian aura about it.

IMO the thing(s) that most represent Capitalism are the skyscrapers of New York. There is still no city like New York.
