http://www.wesh.com/news/15979487/detail.htmlI can only say that this is one of the saddest things I have seen in a longtime.
The fact that he is rich or black or famous does not have any sway on my judgement but rather that the govt is motivated to make people afraid and seems to have strategically picked Snipes case as the "example".
It really seems like a farce now. I care not for the govt anymore.
Hopefully when all these baby boomers running things die off we can get some sense back in this govt.

Well, if anyone doubted what they do to you if you don't pay your taxes.

Such is the penalty for high treason. You often see the same thing here. Torture murder? 10 years maximum. Kill a wolf illegally in self/property defense and get unlucky in court? 3-4 years. Rape? Up to 4 years. Keep 200000 tax dollars? Probably more.
Government is the new royalty and deity, except in flesh and blood.

I mean the thing that gets me is OJ simpson is free, yet, even when Snipes offered to pay they still are looking to make him serve 3 years.
Ok, so, why is it that it seems a greater crime to not pay tax then get away with murder?
I understand what it means to follow the tax protesters. I have followed all those cases for much of my life. Irwin Schiff, Aaron Russo, Citizens for alternative tax, Fairtax, you name it.
I can see why Snipes was pulled into these groups. What gripes me is that there has been no redress of greiviances which is what all these groups ask for.
Further, I think that with all the proof of bad govt (my subjective view) management of money that it also furthers the case for a govt to address and justify its takings.
I think Snipes should appeal for a trial showing that they zeroed in on him and made an example of him. Am I a fan of snipes? no. Yes I like watching his movies, but thats not the reason I am invested in this. Is the US govt so blatantly careless of how people see it that they are now resorting to this kind of showmanship?
In the end I guess I am as naive as Snipes wishing that some equality was brought back into our monetary and tax system instead of this current system which makes me feel the dollar is going the way of the pesos due to needing to print money just to pay for the taxes and interest of money spent.
Ok, soapbox...stepping down.

Noble, OJ murdered an individual. Snipes commited a crime against the state.
The state. You know when, back in the day, people would get nailed to a pole and left to rot for spitting on the king as he held a speech?
Yeah.

That's a good point - what's the deal with that? OJ has a following that celebrates him getting away with murder... yet Snipes doesn't pay taxes, they throw the book at him and nobody cares. The only reasonable explanation I can think of is that people don't like his involvement with militant groups like the nation of Islam and such. (I suppose I can't blame them for that)

Oh, I didn't know he was into militant Islamic groups.
Well, that sucks but, none the less, I figured if you could pay up then why do they punish you anyways?
I think in most cases they would say "oh, you can pay us? Ok good".
No, they decide to make it about fear.
Ah, I feel childish about this now. But, whatever, I think the fairtax (or something similar) will be passed during my lifetime anyways.
But thats another topic/post.
;)
