Hah! I should have guessed, I suppose.

Do you really think there is going to be some kind of military conflict with China and the U.S.? Or am I overreading your sentiments?

They think so. Or at least they're preparing for one. Whether there will be one or not depends on a lot of things. Mostly on whether we take this threat seriously or not.

Short answer no with a but, long answer yes with an if.

Incidentally, I've had my eye on the US Navy or a while now, for two reasons mostly: [reasons which will come as no surprise to Inspector who is well aware of my skepticism regarding the USN]

1.) I think its emphasis on Surface capabilty and Seabasing is misguided and dangerous.

2.) I think they're slipping. I'm worried that they're turning our warships into floating tech schools. That they're making electricians not warriors.

Its a duel trend that's been decades in the making.

Well... turns out there is something else to worry about now. Of course I don't really trust the source, but its worring enough that I think it demands serious attention.

Update:

Of course if their AEGIS systems (SPY-1 specficially) are operating at clearly diminished capacity, it might explain how things like this happen.

The Russians are getting cocky. I wonder what they have in mind.

Yes they are. Everyone is. Our inability (more unwillingness) to defeat insects indicates weakness and a power vaccuum. And nature abhors a vaccuum.

They're resuming TU-95 Strategic Bomber patrols over the Arctic again too, as well as claiming vast tracts of territory up there too (claiming nonsense about continental plates and such). Its old fashioned Russian imperialism.
