Title: How Fast Can You Go?
Description: Question regarding overclocking
borneogeeks - January 19, 2005 08:12 PM (GMT)
i overclocked my pc frm 2.4 - 2.8GHz. anyone ever overclocked more than 50% of the processor's stock speed? would really like to hear your opinions :D
abgsiddiq - January 19, 2005 10:48 PM (GMT)
:o 50%. haha. im from amd 1800+ till 2.15ghz. :P
borneogeeks - January 19, 2005 10:53 PM (GMT)
is that really 50%? ur using palomino or tbred? socket 462?

:) may we know ur computer specs please.
borneogeeks - January 23, 2005 12:42 PM (GMT)
hmm, check ur motherboard, and BUs speed.
siawgu - January 23, 2005 05:23 PM (GMT)
i think 50% ah? kenot lah... if Intel i think can...
mine AMD Althon 2000+ @ 1.6GHz OC to 2GHZ only
borneogeeks - January 23, 2005 05:46 PM (GMT)
can u go above 2GHz? i thought AMD very good for OC compared to Intel. even though the heat is really hot, but if u use a good cooler, its btr than intel.
WratH - January 23, 2005 06:19 PM (GMT)
u say that yet u'r still using intel... i don't understand u lar...
AMD rules!
borneogeeks - January 23, 2005 06:28 PM (GMT)
hey, im Intel GOING to AMD. my bad. i was new so i wasnt used to AMD's platform. :P .

:) i have an ADM2000+ before. maxed out at 2ghz. im getting my 1800+ soon. which can overclcok till maximum 2.52ghz  but no money for amd 64 let alone amd fx-55
borneogeeks - January 24, 2005 07:04 AM (GMT)
me 2. i need cashhhh $$$$$$ :(
Shoot@M3 - January 24, 2005 09:11 AM (GMT)
Another OC'er here
P4 2.4C @ 3.12 @ 260FSB
Remark : Using Stock cooling with 2 xtra 92mm fans (1 Intake, 1 Exhaust)
Max Load Temp : 56Celcius
Been using more than a year, lovin it
Erm 50%, that's nuts! Only saw someone ever reached 4GHz plus with 2.4 with water cooling. Never saw one with 50% before <-- perhaps ones with world record
Other rigs OC before
Pentium MMX 200 @ 233
AMD K6/2 500 @ 550
Pentium3 600 @ 700 something (Fren punya PC :P)
Celeron 900 @ 1.1GHz <-- crappy
abgsiddiq - January 24, 2005 09:20 AM (GMT)
:o wow. quite good. try 3.6ghz. B) watercooling. anymore can afford it here?
borneogeeks - January 24, 2005 09:39 AM (GMT)
for me, 56 celcius is very hotttt!!!
WratH - January 24, 2005 09:56 PM (GMT)
what's u'r average temp.?
Shoot@M3 - January 25, 2005 04:55 AM (GMT)
Wut to do... I oni have stock cooling, no more budget
56Celcius still ok for me, touched the heatsink not so hot
Average temp should be around 50-52Celcius
3.6 is too much for me, can reach 3.3 <-- crappy
Disregard my previous statement, 2.4 @ 4GHz, think that is wrong, that guy should be running a 3.2 @ 4GHz or something
Siawgu, r u who I think u r?
borneogeeks - January 25, 2005 05:28 AM (GMT)
can u increase ur fan's RPM's? like my motherboard, it has this Q-Fan technology where i can increase / decrease the fan speed. try checking ur bios and see wether it has that feature or not.
Shoot@M3 - January 25, 2005 07:24 AM (GMT)
I'll have a quick look later but I doubt it cos my mobo is Abit IS7-E.
That is after I go back, now catching anaconda using Company Pc
abgsiddiq - January 25, 2005 08:32 AM (GMT)
buy Thermalright heatsink. very very very very good. :)
VH14-Iceman - January 25, 2005 04:32 PM (GMT)
Hi guyz ! well, i have overclock my Pc from 2.8=3.3 and it seems like working well now.. but sometimes it will hang =)
So i recommend overcolckers get a better cooling system =)
borneogeeks - January 25, 2005 05:11 PM (GMT)
i just bought the Jet 4. quite good cooling system. it still maintains below 45 Celcius overclocked from 2.4 to 3.06 :P . the fan runs from 2500 - 3500 RPMs. and the highest reading i ever got was 50 C. usually it reads at 39 - 42 C :P . but i still think cooling by Thermaltake is better.

im suing thermaltake 12. quite ok.
THERMALRIGHT > THERMALTAKE
Shoot@M3 - January 26, 2005 08:46 AM (GMT)
Borneogeeks, there was an option called EQ Fan, option to change from 90% to 60%, seems like it's only for slowering the fan and I'm already running at max.
Correction : Idle/Average temp around 41Celcius
Max Load Temp : Will edit after I go back check, sleepy last nite <-- Yawning...
borneogeeks - January 26, 2005 10:40 AM (GMT)
well, i think u maxed out the rpm speed already since the maximum speed i can make is 15/16. it wont let me choose 16/16. maybe u shud get a new HSF? what proc r u using?
abgsiddiq - January 29, 2005 07:17 AM (GMT)
:) just got my new cpu. 2.3ghz At 1.725volt. stable. woo  trying 2.5ghz soon

P4C 2.4GHz
borneogeeks - January 31, 2005 08:23 AM (GMT)
hey shoot, im using 2.4C also. r u using N-wood or Prescott? whts ur cache memory? 1MB / 512kb?
Shoot@M3 - January 31, 2005 09:00 AM (GMT)
It's a Northy
Malaysian Made
Stock Voltage 1.565V
Stock Cooling
Luv this 2.4C, it rawks!
I see ur siggie went up to 3.06GHz, cool!
borneogeeks - January 31, 2005 09:31 AM (GMT)
ok shoot. here's the shocking news. im using P2.4. im supposed to be using N-WOOD right? but when i checked using CPU-Z, im using PRESCOTT technology. and i also have 1MB L2 Cache memory. weird huh?
Maximus_Detritus - January 31, 2005 10:36 AM (GMT)
It's most likely to be a downclocked Prescott. I have a feeling your motherboard might be giving wrong information.
Try and get a BIOS update, and see if it clears that up, because no Prescott has ever been recorded to be clocked that low.

:) ya flash new bios. would do more good than farm to ur pc.
just look at MD proc overclocking. very yummy
borneogeeks - January 31, 2005 02:44 PM (GMT)
flash new bios? how do u do that?
Maximus_Detritus - January 31, 2005 02:44 PM (GMT)
My overclocking result is modest, at best. Only FSB255. (= 3.3 Ghz only. Not much.

Goto the ASUS website, and d/l a suitable BIOS for your motherboard. your motherboard dcumentation or the ASUS website will teachyou how.
borneogeeks - January 31, 2005 02:49 PM (GMT)
i already downloaded the latest one, 1019  and i dont think there's a newer version.
Maximus_Detritus - January 31, 2005 10:12 PM (GMT)
Re-flash your BIOS ;)
It's possible your BIOS might have become corrupted and what not, due to perhaps unrealible voltages, power outages, etc. No, not due to overclocking. (=
abgsiddiq - February 1, 2005 12:06 AM (GMT)
hmm flash using floopy disk. you better read this article
http://rojakpot.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=93&pgno=0 .
do asus have windows based bios flash? :)
Shoot@M3 - February 1, 2005 03:34 AM (GMT)
Guys wait..
There is a Prescott at 2.4GHz and 1024KB L2
Refer to my posting in processor
There's nothing wrong with that. Just that that proc is using newer technology
1. a 90nm process
2. 1024KB L2 cache
3. 1.4V <-- Consume less power
4. Supporting extra SSE3 instructions
but it runs at 133/533MHz FSB
