north harris, ma

There is nothing particularly interesting about the town of North Harris, Massachusetts itself - it has always been something of a cookie cutter New England, upper crust area. Many of the locals come from old money families. You can't very easily expect to live in this town without some kind of steady income. Property taxes are out of control! Over the past 20 years or so, however, the town has grown pretty significantly. Middle class families and working singles are flocking to the town. It's really a nice place to live. Once you get past the whole 'vampire' drama, that is.

humans

Let's be honest. If you don't know what a human is, we've got some big problems here. But let's just recap in case you forgot. They don't live forever. they have no magical powers. They are completely and totally normal. Physiologically speaking, of course. Mentally? It's questionable. It's important to remember, however, that there is a major social debate going on. pro-vampire. anti-vampire. It's pretty hard to remain neutral to the whole thing when you find yourself bumping into them every night. Some people are cool with vampires, others aren't. Both camps have their extremists. Hate crimes against vampires are out of control in some areas of the United States. In North Harris, though, things are just heating up now.

vampires

Vampires are pretty much exactly what you've been told; immortal beings who need blood to sustain their life.Well, they are immortal if they avoid harm. In fact, about 80 percent of vampires don't survive their first year.It takes a while to grow into those new vampire powers... and they've got a lot, too. Superhuman strength, speed, accelerated healing, glamoring, heightened senses and (to some extent, as most vampires can't) flight. Another sweet trick is their ability to "sense" their progeny - or the vampires that they have 'turned'. It can be pretty useful in certain circumstances. However, they have some pretty awful weaknesses; sunlight, wooden stakes, silver, fire... Vampires even have their own laws within the community. Do not kill another vampire. Do not feed off of another vampire's human.Do not steal from other vampires. They even have laws for humans set up to prevent crimes against vampires. These crimes include; selling V, dealing V, killing a vampire, kidnapping a vampire. Consequences are pretty rough (ie; death). Oh, vampires can turn humans, too. The process is pretty complicated and is rarely done. You can't just go turning humans all over the place!

shifters

Shifters are exactly what the sound like; shape shifters. They generally will take the form of whatever was the last animal they saw - which is why some will keep a picture of their favorite form with them at all times. Just in case. Don't think that they can shift into another persons form. That's both impossible and annoying. Nobody likes a doppelganger.

telepaths

Duh, they have telepathy. These folks are pretty rare. Probably for the better, though. Who wants all their deepest, darkest thoughts heard? Nobody normal, that's who. Vampires are pretty much immune to these guys for some reason. Only the most skilled telepaths can hear the thoughts of vampires. And even then, it's pretty fragmented and broken up - like a cell phone call with bad reception.

tru blood

Tru Blood is a brand of synthetic bottled blood engineered by Japanese scientists. Catering to the vampire population, the release of Tru Blood was the main catalyst for the Great Revelation - when vampires "came out of the coffin" and revealed their existence to the world. Tru Blood is marketed as an alternative blood source for vampires and supposedly meets all their nutritional needs. However, many vampires have found Tru Blood to be revolting compared to human blood and, thus, continues to feed off of humans. It comes in as many flavors as there are blood types (e.g. B Negative, O Positive). It has been seen to be as expensive as $45 a bottle in hotels. Tru Blood is intended to be served warm, with most preferring it at 37 degrees Celsius (98.6 F).

v (vampire blood)

If V is taken by a human in a small dose (one or two drops), it is highly addictive, heightens the senses, and increases strength and sexual pleasure. The effects are different on each person. However, if taken in a large dose, it causes different effects, such as healing someone who has injuries, even if they are close to death. If taken in a large dose when there is no injury on the human consuming the V, then they will have an extremely increased libido, men will experience an enhanced erection, heightened strength for several days after consumption, and feel unwell. The Vampire community has kept the healing properties of their blood a secret from the mortal community, as people may hunt vampires for their vampire blood to heal people, causing them to kill or capture the vampires. V isn't legal in the state of Massachusetts, so, well, just be careful with it okay? If the police don't crack down on you, the vampires sure will.
