I suppose the topic title is a bit bold, but it's better to outright say things like this than to try avoiding the subject. At first, I was reluctant to tell here, but after Bttf 4444 asked me when we would start with our crossover fic, I thought that it would be better to tell her by posting this thread than to avoid the question for a longer time and make up some excuse.

So, anyway, my father had been handicapped for several years, ever since October 27th* 2004 when he got a brain infarct. He could no longer talk except for a few words, he had to walk with a cane or a wheelchair, and his right arm and leg were handicapped and he basically had to carry them around.

Despite his handicap, we still had a lot of fun together. He could still enjoy watching television (even if he could not follow much of what was said) and he tremendously enjoyed driving around town on his mobility scooter. We also went on holidays to homes that were adjusted to provide medical care, and he could have fun there too.

Nearly two weeks ago, on Tuesday, Dad and Mom had been out by scooter and bike. That evening, he had had quite some fun watching "Mr. Bean" on the telly. However, the next morning, when mom woke up, my father was snoring extraordinarily loud. She couldn't decide what to do, and when some family of us came over (they have a paper route) she asked them what to do. They tried to wake my father up, but failed. Then, it was decided to call an ambulance.

In the hospital, they soon found out that Dad had had another brain infarct, this time handicapping his left side. He was rendered unable to do much anymore including most things he had fun with, including the scooter. He would also be unable to live at home anymore. However, what was worse was that he still hadn't woken up. The doctors said that based on this and other symptoms, the chance he would survive was negligible.

The next few days, my mother stayed in the hospital while I stayed with my family, visiting twice a day. He didn't wake up again and since the situation appeared to be stabile, Mom went home on Saturday. I went there too, and at 3 PM, we went back to the hospital. Halfway there, my half-brother who works at the hospital called us and told us the situation was worsening. When we arrived at around 3:17, Dad had already died.

He was buried yesterday at the local cemetery. It is going to be very hard for Mom and I to live on our own without Dad. Also, I have a school excursion all the way to Rome next week, lasting from Monday to Friday. At first, I was unsure whether to go, but the entire family encouraged me to do so as it would put my mind off the subject for a while. So I'll be leaving in two days' time.

Well, this is what happened. As for Bttf 4444's question, I hope she'll understand that this makes me unable to start on the crossover until early July, when I'll be back from Rome. Hopefully, I'll be able to move on after that.

*Which is also, as we all know, the day Marty returned from 1885.

Today was my Dad's birthday. He would have turned eighty.

His children are gathering at our house in remembrance tonight.
