I'll probably do two more chapters for this fic - before I work on any of my other stories, other than the one that you and I are doing.
Here's a rough outline for the next two chapter. Chapter Nine * This chapter features the POVs of Verne and Linda. * Lorraine has taken the children to Hill Valley Park, as they wait for Emmett. * Verne meets a girl his age, named Serena. Something about Serena looks very familiar to him, but he can't quite place his finger on it. * Serena's babysitter was the one who took her to the park. I don't want older Verne to be there, for obvious reasons. I also don't want Verne's wife to be there, mostly because I haven't yet figured out who Verne's wife will be - but also because it could be disastrous for young Verne to meet his future wife. * When Serena's babysitter decides that it's time to leave the park, she refers to Serena by her full name - which is a shock to Verne. * Meanwhile, Linda is talking a walk in the forest - and she's still not talking to her mother. * Linda meets Marlene, and is stunned by how much she looks like Marty. The latter indicates that her full name is, in fact, Marlene Brown - which is a shock to Linda. Chapter Ten * This is the chapter where we switch to the POVs of the future characters: Marlene and Marty Jr. * Marlene also finds "Lydia" to be look very familiar to her, but she can't think of why. * Marlene discusses some of her interests (including Lady Gaga) with "Lydia". * At some point, Marlene mentions her cousin Brent. When "Lydia" questions about it - Marlene clarifies that her cousin is, in fact, Brent Maxwell. "Lydia" looks horrified, and she takes off. * Meanwhile, Marty Jr just got home from band practice. * Harmony shows up, as she decides to check up on Marty Jr. * Marty Jr is very confused, when Harmony mentions seeing him at Courthouse Mall. * In turn, Harmony is confused - when Marty Jr mentions that he was, in fact, practicing with his band. * With annoyance, Harmony questions why Marty Jr's doppelganger didn't just tell her that he wasn't who she thought he was. * This chapter could end one of two ways. Either, Marty Jr and Harmony decide to visit Grandpa Emmett - or else Marty Sr arrives home. Which do you think would work better? |

That sounds good, although I'm not sure whether it would all end up fitting in two chapters. Also, I had expected that scene between Linda and Brent to be longer - and it might be interesting to see his thoughts on the matter, too.
By the way, make sure not to forget about Dave and Jules. It's probably hard to keep track of all the characters, but I'm sure you'll manage in the end. Of course, it is just as hard for the readers, so I don't blame you for limiting the amount of storylines. I'm not sure what I should say about the proposed ending to Chapter Ten, until I know what happens afterwards. Except, of course, keep up the good work. -------------------- "As long as you hit that wire with the connecting hook at precisely eighty-eight miles per hour, the instant the lightning strikes the tower... everything will be fine." - Doc Brown, Back to the Future Part I, November 12, 1955, 09:57 PM, Hill Valley Main Road in front of the clock tower, Hill Valley, California, Earth, Universe.

Hey, thanks for your feedback.
BTW, I think you meant Dave and Emily - since I did Jules' section in the Cafe '80s chapter. I definitely will get to them, eventually. I still have to think of what to do with them, though. I almost wish I had thought to send them to an earlier time in 2015, but this will have to do. I guess everyone will be up pretty late, but the group doesn't stay for more than 24 hours. Per your comment in the Rejected Lines topic - I think I'll have Linda not realize, right away, that she's somehow related to Brent. She runs into Brent, again - and confronts him on not telling her that he already had a girlfriend. As such, Marlene doesn't mention Marty Jr or the fact that she's a Brown to Linda. Perhaps, Lorraine takes the three young ones to the Holomax Theatre - while Dave, Linda, and Marty go their separate paths. Linda managed to encounter Brent, as he and Melinda are heading out of the Holomax Theatre. Meanwhile, Marty runs into Marty Jr and Harmony - and Harmony confronts Marty for not being honest with her. Harmony insists on taking Marty's thumbprint - and cannot believe what she finds out. At some point, as Emmett is leaving the clinic, he encounters his older self. I still have to think of how that would work. At some point, the four future teens - Brent, Marlene, Marty Jr, and Harmony - all meet. Perhaps, Linda is still with Brent - while Marty is still with Marty Jr and Harmony. As Marty Jr and Harmony fill Brent and Marlene in on what she found out, Brent and Marlene finally realize why "Lydia" looks so familiar to them. Do you have any ideas on what could be done with Dave? As for Emily, I'm probably gonna keep the three young ones together - so some of the sections featuring the younger ones would be from Emily's POV. What do you think? |

All right, that sounds good. I did, in fact, mean Dave and Jules, because I'd forgotten that you had already used Jules. I completely forgot about Emily's existence, though.
What would happen between Linda, Brent and Melinda at the Holomax, then? I guess that would be a difficult scene to write. Perhaps, Linda chooses to wait until Melinda has left, and then she confronts Brent. After all, you didn't mention Melinda accompanying them in the second-to-final paragraph of your post. I'm not sure what Dave would do. I guess he would look around, and marvel at the technology. Perhaps, since he's working at an office at the end of Part I and he's probably a businessman in the future, he would come up with the idea to use knowledge of the future stock market to influence their life in the present day, as a sort of analogue to the almanac scene in Part II. Some of the group would be interested in that idea, but Doc would promptly shoot it down as soon as he finds out.

Yeah, I was thinking about Linda waiting until Melinda left - before confronting Brent. Since Melinda is a relatively minor character (although I do imagine her to be the girl on one of the stationary bikes in the Cafe '80s scene), I don't really plan to have her be let in the secret. Usually, Brent isn't, either - but, in this universe, he's related to Emmett (albeit via adoption). As such, I think Brent should also know.
Yeah, that's a good idea about Dave. Perhaps, he goes to the library - and tries to figure out which businesses he should invest in. That's a brilliant idea. Thanks! And, of course, Doc would disapprove of that. I'll have to think of when to introduce Dave's POV. As it stands, tentatively, the next chapters include: Chapter Nine: Verne, Linda Chapter Ten: Marlene, Marty Jr Chapter Eleven: Brent, Dave (the group finally decides to leave Hill Valley Park, as it's getting quite late) Chapter Twelve: Emily, Linda, and Marty (the group reaches the Holomax Theatre) Chapter Thirteen: Dave, Emmett (Dave is at the library, Emmett is leaving the clinic) Chapter Fourteen: Harmony, Marlene (Harmony and Marty Jr confront Marty, Marlene is heading to the Cafe '80s) Chapter Fifteen: Brent, Dave (the four future teens meet, Dave is still at the library) How's that sound, so far? |

Thank you for the compliments. I'm not sure exactly how much you could write about Dave being at the library, but you could probably find a way. Where would Lorraine be during those scenes? With Emily and the boys, I suppose?

Yeah, she's be watching Emily and the boys. Of course, this is just a rough outline. It could always change. Of course, Emily and the boys would all have different perspectives on what going on. Even Jules would have to be impressed by the holographic projections, though.
As for Dave, I'm thinking that he's on the internet - which he figured out from watching others use the computer. He's amazed by how connected the world gets, in the future - and he can look up what companies get big. Perhaps, he considers investing in Facebook - but then realizes that he'd need to wait nearly twenty years to do it. Google and YouTube are, of course, other possibilities he might consider. Then he decides to try and find something not-internet related. |

Ah yes, I see. That sounds good. I guess in the end, he would end up writing down knowledge about business that exist in his time - and perhaps, even a few sport scores.

Yeah, that's the good idea. Of course, keeping in mind that the future is a combination of what we've seen in BTTF2 and things that actually have happened in "our" world.
ETA: Okay, I've got it. Dave, ultimately, decides to invest in Nintendo - even though he has very little use for video games, or for "kids who wile away their time playing them". He's befuddled with how much "some Japanese time-wasting company" can grow over thirty years. Especially since, just a couple years ago, there was the great video game crash in North America. Yeah, I don't really see Dave being the kind of person to like video games - but, if he can make a great profit from it, then why not. |

Bill Gates does become the richest man in the world, so how about Microsoft being the company Dave decides to invest in?

That's a good idea, too. He decides to invest in Microsoft, after deciding that he really doesn't want to invest in a video game company. I guess I'll do it that, then. He seriously considers Nintendo, until he stumbles across an article on Bill Gates and Microsoft.
I think he'd also be baffled (and dismayed) to learn that the future actually has a "hardcore gaming" subculture - and that playing video games has become associated with geekdom, who are proud to be thought of as "geeks". |

6:30 PM PDT Verne smiled - as his entire family, save for Emmett, stepped into the playground area of Hill Valley Park. He felt amazed by all of the new playground equipment that he saw - and, to his delight, he noticed that there was even a bounce house. Usually, he only saw those things at fairs - but it was quite obvious that there was not a fair going on. "Hey, Jules," Verne out, excitedly - as he turned to his brother. "Would you like to go in the bounce house with me? Just think. We don't even need a ticket, and it'll just be so much fun. It's also looks big enough to actually fit an entire classroom in there." "Maybe I will, a little later," Jules replied, smiling. "For now, I really want to go on the swings. The swinging motion may help me to brainstorm for my next science project." "Okay, Jules, see you later!" Verne called out, as he ran for the bounce house. As he stepped inside, he saw that there was a girl inside - who simply appeared to be about his age. For some reason, she also looked quite familiar. "Hello, there! Who are you?" "My name's Serena," the girl replied, cheerfully. "Say, isn't this place fun? I really love to bounce. I would come here every single day, if I could. Say, what is your name?" "My name is, uh, Ernie," Verne replied, as he picked the name of his favourite Sesame Street character. His figured that he should not use his real name. "This really is fun!" "Yeah, it really is," Serena agreed, enthusiastically. "I'm so happy to meet you, Ernie." Verne nodded, as he landed on top of Serena. Both children laughed, as they tried to get up. Try as they might, though, they could not make themselves stand upright. "I'm so glad that my mom brought me here!" Verne replied, excitedly. "I really wouldn't mind sleeping in here. It's even more fun than a water bed. It'd be totally awesome!" "I simply don't think I'd ever fall asleep," Serena replied, laughing. "Mommy and Daddy are both at a meeting - so Molly, my babysitter brought me here. Anyway, do you live in Hill Valley? You're such a great pal. I'm really hoping that we go the same school." "No, I really don't think we do," Verne replied, as he tried to lay flat on the ground. He simply did wonder if Serena attended Hill Valley Elementary School - and if, in fact, she even had the same teacher he did. "We, uh... Our family is visiting from... Elmdale." "Oh, I've been to Elmdale before," Serena replied, smiling. "It's a nice town, and I love going to Betty's Bakery. They serve great breakfasts, and I enjoy their cream puffs." "I just enjoy that place, too," Verne exclaimed, cheerfully. He felt happy to know that one of his favourite restaurants remained standing. "Although, I really don't get to go there as often as I like. Usually, we go there on Sundays - after we go to church." "We usually go there, about twice a month," Serena explained. "My dad insists on it. I think he's a rather cool person, and I bet you'd simply like him. Mom is quite awesome, too - but, sometimes, she does get on her health food kicks. That really annoys me." "Yeah, health food is boring," Verne agreed, as he made a face. "My mom isn't usually bad about it - but my sister, Linda, can be. Often, she'll make nasty comments to me - if she sees me eating a bowl of ice cream... or when I eat more than one hamburger." "Makes me glad I don't have an older sister," Serena replied, shaking her head. "I just have a younger brother, named Benjy - and he's just a baby. He tends to cry a lot." "Sadly, I'm the youngest in my family," Verne explained, sighing. "I simply hate having to go to bed earlier than everyone else. It's really not fair that the others get to have fun, while I have to be in bed. I'm just so sick of being too young to do this or that." "Yeah, I rather know what you mean," Serena agreed, nodding. "I mean, I don't have any older brothers or sisters - but I quite do hate being told that I can't attend certain functions. I'm also sick of some people saying that I'm too young to like rock music. I'm really so sick of being told that I can't like Led Zeppelin, because it's for older people." "Oh, I really love Led Zeppelin!" Verne gasped, excitedly. Even in 1985, some people have told him that he was too young to like that band. "It is very annoying to be told that you can't like something, because you're too young for it. It really irritates me!" "All right, Serena," called out a young woman, as she poked her head into the bounce house. "It's time for us to leave. We've been here for a little over two hours, now."' "Aw, Molly, do we really have to go?" Serena groaned. "Can't we stay a little longer?" "Serena Jane Brown, we really need to get going!" Molly insisted, firmly. "It is getting quite dark outside - and your parents should be coming home, in about half an hour." "Yes, Molly," Serena sighed, as she began crawling towards the entryway. "I'm sorry, Ernie. It's been so nice meeting you, and we've had a lot of fun - but I have to go." "We just don't want your parents to worry about you, dear," Molly insisted, gently. "I quite understand that you simply love playing in the bounce house, but this place isn't gonna go anywhere. When we get home, you could have a nice bowl of ice cream." "Yippee!" Serena cheered. As she stepped outside, she called out, "Good bye, Ernie!" "Good bye, Serena!" Verne called out, sighing. As he leaned back, he thought of how much he would quite miss his new friend. Just then, he gasped, "Serena Jane Brown? She's got my last name. I wonder if she might actually be... be related to me." While Verne still quite enjoyed the bouncing motion, he began to feel a little lonely. He wondered just how his new friend might be related to him. Could Serena be the future daughter of Jules? Or was Serena the future daughter of... No, it could not be! There was no way for Serena to be his future daughter. Being a father just was not for him. oooooooooo Linda sighed, as she began to walk into the forest. She could not stop thinking about Brent Maxwell. Did the young man feel the same way about her? He quite seemed to be a great gentleman, the type of man that she tended to be attracted to. Granted, she rather had a few boyfriends - including Greg, Craig, and Paul. However, none of them appeared to be quite like Brent. Somehow, Brent simply seemed to stand out. She sighed, as she really hoped that she could convince her adoptive father to let her stay in the future. After all, she simply could not control who fell in love with. Besides, if the inventor was not married to her mother - and he simply fell in love with someone from another time period - he was likely to do the same. She felt rather certain of it. As she thought of her mother, she felt her rage begin to return. With great force, she kicked at a rock. What rather made her feel more furious was the fact that her mother simply had the gall to plead with her to understand. There was nothing to understand! Incest was wrong, plain and simple. It really should not have taken a kiss to know that something was quite wrong. Her mother should not have even felt attracted to Marty. While she always felt close to her mother, things would never quite be the same. She would, never again, talk to her mother. Not for as long as she lived. She really began to wonder what the scientist even saw in her mother. After all, he actually knew what had happened. Certainly, he could not have approved of what her mother did. Suddenly, she saw a teenage girl with long light brown hair - as she sat by a tree, and was looking into the sky. It was starting to get dark out - and the scenery looked very beautiful. Perhaps, she really should spend more time taking hikes at Hill Valley Park. "Hello, there!" called out the girl, as she noticed Linda. "I really love your outfit. I can see that you've got great fashion sense. I'm Marlene. What might your name be?" "I'm, uh, Lydia," Linda replied, nervously. Something about the girl seemed to be very familiar to her, but she could not quite place her finger on it. "I, uh... I quite figured it was a nice evening for taking a hike. I really do enjoy looking at all the fall colours." "It's very nice to meet you, Lydia," Marlene replied, as she extended her hand - which Linda accepted. "Say, you certainly do look a little familiar. Did you Hill Valley?" "Actually, no, I don't," Linda replied, softly. "I'm from, uh, Elmdale. I decided to check out Hill Valley, though - in case I... I could find some rather good apartments. So, uh, what are your hobbies? I enjoy shopping, pop music, and hanging out with friends." "I simply love all those things, myself!" Marlene exclaimed, cheerfully. "I'm so glad that they turned the old courthouse into a mall. I am also quite big on Lady Gaga. In fact, I have all of her holograms - and I went to six of her concerts. Do you like Lady Gaga?" "Yeah, she's awesome!" Linda replied, swallowing - even though she was completely unfamiliar with the name. "I sure hope that she, uh... becomes as big as Madonna." "Well, I think she already is," Marlene replied, cheerfully. "Even if some Madonna fans just may not like to admit it. I mean, I've nothing against Madonna - and it's clear that Lady Gaga admires her. Still, the Madonna fans really need to stop putting Lady Gaga down. It's the year 2015. They need to accept that it's not the eighties, anymore." "Right, of course," Linda replied, nervously. She understood just how Marlene felt, as she herself had little patience for fifties nostalgia. However, as she did come from the eighties, she felt a little uncomfortable. "After all, it is better to live in the present." "Try telling my brother that, though," Marlene grumbled. "I mean, eighties nostalgia is more understandable - when it comes from older people. I just don't quite understand how people our age can be like that, though. I really understand that they might prefer the music and such from the past - but they can still enjoy those things, now." Linda nodded, as she glanced at Marlene. Had they been from the same time period, she figured that they would be good friends. They seemed to have a lot in common - and, come to think of it, 2015 rather seemed to be more exciting than 1985. She felt as if she was ready to give up her life in 1985, and start a brand new life in 2015. |

I think Verne and Serena are bonding a bit too quick. Of course, the fact that they appear familiar to each other would help that, but it's a rather short scene anyway. Too short for Serena to call Verne 'a great pal'.

You make a good point, but they're also just kids. Also, Serena may have been exaggerating a bit - which kids do tend to do.

In the last paragraph, you refer to Serena being Verne's possible future son, which should be 'daughter'. Also, I'm a bit confused at Verne contemplating that idea, while he's also thinking Serena might go to the same school and have the same teacher, which indicates he's not thinking fourth-dimensionally. Or is he and did I misunderstand that scene?
