Who Thinks Marty Was A Loser?

I mean, he was a slacker at school, and it didn't seem like he was very cool. But when he changed his parents, he was probably much cooler.

Who thinks in the original timeline (TWIN PINES MALL) that he was a loser? I mean, he did ride a skateboard, which was cool. But overall, I don't think he was very popular at school. What does everyone else think???

he might have been a loser but the would mean that jennifer was a loser too and she didnt seem like she was a loser she was prob popular and if you think about it marty had a band and stuff like that ... they never really talk about his friends but you no he had to be friends with the band and stuff ...

Yes, that's true. Since Jennifer was his girlfriend he was probably at least normal.

I think "Loser" is a little harsh, but I know where you're coming from. I remember a discussion like this from BTTF.com once saying this. We actually don't ever see him interacting with any of his peers in '85, besides Jennifer and "The Guys" (meaning his band, The Pinheads), so we don't have as much to go on.

Knowing Doc's apparent status as the town nutcase, it's possible that could've cost him some friends he had earlier. I don't think it would've been enough for him to become friend-less though. He was more than cool enough to have had groups of buddies IMHO.

Also, maybe 'cause of his closeness with Doc, it also seems likely to me that he could've had alot of older friends, so maybe they just weren't in HS.

Needles was also probably popular. This is why he was always teasing Marty, I s'pose. Oh yeah, and Blind Spot, I remember that discussion on BTTF.com too, but I forgot what conclusion you guys came up with.

Marty is no loser.....I mean maybe in the original timeline a little bit because of his dad, but in the im proved timeline i do not think much has changed. Maybe some freindships have changed but not so much to affect him. He probably had many but stayed with Jen the most.

No one as cute as this could be a loser! No, really, I don't think he was. I think he was probably friends with the nonconformist kids. I know, cause I sure always am. Like it was pointed out above, Jennifer looked like she could have been a popular kid. I don't think he was a loser!

*ahem* Sorry - I just hate the thought of Marty being a loser. He was such a cool guy. He knew where he was going, he stood up for himself, and he had a cool girlfriend!

Ok this is what I think. Marty in the original couple scripts was a big time troublemaker. Marty was the type of teen who illegally copyed movies and did alot of bad things. Basically Marty was a Bootlegger, that was what he did to make money to get the things he wanted. So in the original Marty was not a loser but a kid who just didn't care. In the book Marty was the type of kid that everyone looked up to. In fact the first chapter is completely different from the movie and you get to see what Marty was really like that the movies didn't show right away. So was Marty a loser? No I don't think so, he was always telling his father to stand up for himself and that Marty actually wished that his father was alot cooler. Marty was kind of dull in the beginning of the first bttf but you later see that he was alot cooler. I suggest to read the book so see how much Marty was a cool guy, espically in the first chapter. You will also be amazed at how much more detail is in the book then in the movie. I suggest reading it because you will have a better apprication for the movie after reading the book which gives detail that couldn't be shown in the Movie. Marty was a freaking kick butt dude!
