Welcome everybody to the 2012 Anime Banzai DS Pokémon Tournament!

First year was GREAT. Last year was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! 2012 we plan to have the best year yet!

2010 we gave Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs to 1st Place!
2011 we gave a Nintendo 3DS to 1st place and over $100 in gift cards!
Just imagine what you can win in 2012!

2010 Easton Henrie and Matt Greaves were our finalists, and Easton came out with the victory.
2011 Masha Gutin and Chelsea Carr finished with the top spots with Masha pulling 1st place.

When:

• Date: Saturday, October 20th
• Registration 1:00pm - 1:30pm. Maximum of 128 Players - first come, first served.
• Play 1:45pm

What you will need:

• Nintendo DS/DS Lite/DSi/DSi XL/3DS
• AC Adapter (Optional - but highly recommended)
• Copy of Pokémon Black, White, Black2, or White2 (with Pokémon that meet the outlined rules in your Party or Battle Box)
• Completed Team Info Sheet. Click here to download the .PDF file.

Quick Rules:

• On the C-Gear, select IR, Battle, Battles for two, Double Battle
• Wonder Launcher cannot be used.
• Register 6 Pokémon, put 4 in your party/battle box. You may only use Pokémon on your registration sheet. If you want to change your 4 Pokémon, you must do so in-between rounds and have a Judge approve of the change.
• None of the following Pokémon can be used:
  Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Keldeo, and Genesect. More Pokémon restrictions can be found below in the full rules.
• No duplicate Pokémon.
• No duplicate hold items.
• No Pokémon can know the moves Sky Drop or Dark Void.
• The item Soul Dew cannot be used.

Complete Details:

Registration:

All event registration will be handled on-site - First come, First served. During registration, each player will be required to fill out a Team Information Sheet.
• Each player must enter 4-6 Pokémon on his or her Team Information Sheet. See the Eligible Pokémon list below for more information on which Pokémon are eligible for the tournament.
• Each player must enter 0-6 held items on his or her Team Information Sheet. No two Pokémon can hold the same item.
• Players may only use Pokémon and held items listed on their Team Information Sheet during the tournament.
• The Pokémon and held items listed on a player's Team Information Sheet may not be changed once the player has registered for the event. You cannot switch the items held by Pokémon in-between rounds.

Battle Rules:

• Each player uses four Pokémon during the battle, and sends out two Pokémon at a time.
• The Battle rules have an auto-level feature, which sets all Pokémon to level 50 for the duration of the battle with the following parameters:
  * Each Pokémon retains all of the moves that it knew before being auto-leveled
  * Pokémon that evolve after level 50 do not devolve when auto-leveled
  * The Pokémon's stats are adjusted to what its level 50 stats would be
• A player's team may not contain two Pokémon with the same National Pokédex number.
• Each Pokémon on a player's team may use held items, though no two Pokémon may hold the same item during battle.
• The move Sky Drop and Dark Void cannot be know.
• Players may not enter two Pokémon with the same nickname.
• Players may not enter a Pokémon nicknamed with the name of another Pokémon character (for example, a Snivy nicknamed "Oshawott").
• Players found to have inappropriate/offensive Trainer names or Pokémon nicknames, as determined by the event staff, will be disqualified from the event without prizes.

Pokémon Restrictions:
Players may use Pokémon found in the Pokémon Black and Pokémon White Versions National Pokédex.
None of the following Pokémon can be used:
Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem, Keldeo, and Genesect.

Ability Restrictions:
Players may use Pokémon with Hidden Abilities that have been officially released via Pokémon Black/White/Black2/White2 Versions, the Pokémon Global Link, or an official event or promotion.

Move Restrictions:
Pokémon may only use moves that have been learned through one of the following methods:

• By leveling up
• By TM or HM
• As an Egg move, through breeding
• From a Move Tutor
• Already learned by a Pokémon that was received at an official Pokémon event or promotion
• The moves Sky Drop and Dark void cannot be used on your team

Tournament Operation

• The tournament will be ran using a Swiss Pairing system, with single elimination playoffs for the top placing players.
• Only North American versions of Pokémon Black, White, Black2, and White2 Versions may be used.
• A player wins by knocking out his or her opponent’s final Pokémon.
• If an attack knocks out both players’ last Pokémon, the player that used the attack loses the match. This includes the moves Explosion, Selfdestruct, Double-Edge, Volt Tackle, Flare Blitz, Take Down, Submission, Brave Bird, Wood Hammer, Head Smash, Struggle, Perish Song, Destiny Bond, Final Gambit, Wild Charge, and Head Charge. This also includes the Life Orb held item.
• If an environmental effect knocks out both players’ last Pokémon, the result of the game is a tie. This includes Hail, Sandstorm, and Sunny Day.
• If all remaining Pokémon are knocked out due to Stealth Rock or Spikes, the result of the game is a tie.
• If a Pokémon’s ability or held item results in all remaining Pokémon being knocked out, the result of the game is a tie. This includes Aftermath, Liquid Ooze, Rough Skin, Iron Barbs, Jaboca Berry,Rowap Berry, Sticky Barb, and Rocky Helmet.
• A player who selects “Run” during a battle will count as the loser of that match, whether selected intentionally or not.
• If a tie occurs, a single game will be played to determine the winner of that match, using the Sudden Death rules outlined below:
  * Sudden Death
  Players will be required to gain an advantage in number of remaining Pokémon over their opponent. The staff will evaluate the game at the end of each turn to determine if an advantage has been gained. After each turn has completed, the tournament staff will determine the number of Pokémon that each player has remaining.
  * If both players have the same number of Pokémon remaining at the end of the turn, the game continues for another turn.
  * If a player has more remaining Pokémon than his or her opponent at the end of any turn, that player wins the game.
• Players who are found to be intentionally delaying the pace of their match will receive a match loss. Continued breaking of this rule could result in disqualification without prizes.
• Players who are tardy to their match for any reason will receive a match loss. If a player is tardy for more than one round will result in disqualification without prizes.

Other Information:
The use of external devices to alter the Pokémon is expressly forbidden. Random checks will be performed throughout and after the tournament to determine whether or not an external device has been used to modify a player's Pokémon. Players found to have Pokémon that have been tampered with will be disqualified from the event without prizes, regardless of whether the player tampered with his or her game or received a Pokémon or item that was tampered with by someone other than the player. It is the player's responsibility to have legal Pokémon. Event officials have the final determination regarding the legality of a Pokémon. In the event where prizes are awarded and after the completion of the tournament it is found that the use of an external device had been used, the player must forfeit any and all prizes awarded back to the tournament organizer. Failure to comply may lead to legal action to acquire the items given as per the rules stated at the cost of the offending party.

A player should notify the staff immediately if he or she believes that there is a problem with an opponent's Pokémon. At the end of the round, all match results become final. Issues that go unreported until after the round has completed will not change the result of that match, regardless of whether there is a problem with an opponent's Pokémon.

Players and spectators are expected to demonstrate proper sportsmanship over the course of the event. A player may be disqualified from the event based on actions taken by friends or relatives who disrupt the operation of the tournament.

All staff of this tournament and the staff of Anime Banzai reserve the right to disallow entry or disqualify anybody at any time without reason or cause.

By entering in this tournament, you hereby irrevocably grant and assign to The Pokémon Company International, Inc., Anime Banzai Staff, its agents and their respective licensees, successors and assigns (collectively, “Pokémon”) the absolute right and permission worldwide to use, publish and/or, broadcast your name, picture, voice recording, deck or team composition and methods of play, use, or collecting of Pokémon trading cards or characters and likeness and/or moving images of you and/or your minor children listed hereon in any manner or media whatsoever currently in existence or hereinafter invented for publicity, for trade or commercial purposes, for promotion and/or for sale of Pokémon products, and/or including, but not limited to for use, on or in print advertising, direct mail, website use, in or on broadcast media, home video, DVD/CD-Rom, video tape, or in other format, in or on brochures, point of sale materials, on product packaging, and/or on product or on merchandise itself. hi there!
just a quick question on the stat features.

It says that "The Pokémon's stats are adjusted to what its level 50 stats would be," is this just for above level 50 pokemon or does it apply to all? if so, does that negate the effects of stat boosters (proteins, carbos, etc...)? kinda curious, as this may affect my choices....

As of right now all pokemon will become level 50 regardless of current level for the battle. After the battle it will return it it's original level.

Vitamins such as Protein, Carbos, and wings are still in effect on the now level 50 pokemon. So a level 50 pokemon with 10 HP ups will have more HP than one that does not. (In other words - using vitamins will give you an edge against those who don't use them/train properly)

Black/White 2 I think would be great. If it isn't out by then we can give a paid off pre-order. Maybe even a pre-order for a Wii-U?

Plush and Magna is a very doable.

I am currently working on getting some crystal etched trophies and some Anime Banzai swag. No guarantees right now though.

3DS possibility. Pokemon 3DS is highly unlikely. I have not seen any indication that there will be any available for purchase - so the only other way to place in the top 8 at the world championships (or buy it from somebody who did). Like this one I own from 2008

Hydregion is still a VERY good pokemon and still sees play.
As for Swift Swim & Drizzle - it is a viable strategy, but far from perfect.

This is as close to The Pokemon Company's official rules - not Smogon's rules.

Just as an FYI - Nintendo recently dated Pokemon Black 2 & White 2 for October 7th (13 days before the tournament)

We predict that there should be no issues with connectivity between Black/White & Black2/White2 should you want to play using the new games.

As it stands right now everything available in in Black2/White2 will be legal for use in the tournament (Serebii.net has done some excellent coverage on all the new features, abilities, moves and tutors available in Black2/White2)

We will update the rules accordingly.
