2009 has come, said hello, and now is blowing us a kiss goodbye so as we think about resolutions we're gonna fail anyway, where we wanna grub and play the new year in, and what the next year will hold, I wanna know what your favorite Anime that you discovered THIS year (new or old) that you would say is by far your Anime of the Year.

There are so many! But I think the most prevelent anime for me is Code Geass. I haven't seen very much of it, but I LOVE the style of the art, and the costumes in that series are gorgeous! I would like to cosplay that more than anything right now!..=^^=

I agree 100% with that. XD I really need to check it out.

One I learned about was Vocaloid. I didn't really understand it when I first saw people cosplaying it, but I've watched a few videos on YouTube that people have done and I must say I enjoy it!

Holy crap, that's a hard one. Although I REALLY love Axis Powers: Hetalia, I think I will have to go with Code Geass as well. R2, I thought, was a great follow-up for the first season, although not what was originally planned. The characters are deep, the plot is complicated, there are a lot of inter-laced statements on Japan's relationship with America, and the mecha are freaking sweet.

Hm, this question is difficult... =| I actually haven't seen a lot of new anime series this year, mostly I've been catching up on some of the older ones. XD I actually just barely finished Dai Mahou Touge (Yeah, took me forever considering the thing's only 8 episodes long). Wouldn't call it influential, but it did make me laugh. ^^

As for the top anime this year... I really couldn't say. I've been big on Vocaloid and Touhou Project lately, but those aren't technically anime (though there are fan works of both of them). This is gonna sound really childish of me, but I gotta say I really enjoyed the Precure DX Movie that came out this year. It wasn't all that I was expecting it to be, but it was enjoyable in its very little-kiddish sort of way. They just don't make little kid shows like that in the US.

I'm such a little kid ^^"

@ Nadre: Vocaloid is more a japanese voice synthesizer by yamaha with excellent mascots, not really an anime. But still great none the less.

@ Remofthelight: Soul Eater is a great one but I discovered it last year so it can't be AotY for me D: still a good one though.

Oh, god, this was such a good year for me and anime (I'll throw in some video games since they went along with the year:

Anime:
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Ecchi, Mecha, big sploshuns, humor, and everything an anime needs, in a nutshell. If you haven't watched... Do so.
D.Gray Man: I usually hate entering long series late when they are still airing, but my friend made me watch, after a bit of watching, I was hooked on it.
Makai Senki Disgaea: An adaption of the PS2 and PSP game Disgaea, this one turned out to be one of my favorites.

Video Games:

Final Fantasy VII, VIII & IX: Okay, truthfully I knew about them before, but I never played them til now.
The World Ends With You: After many peer reviews, I finally picked it up and played it and it didn't come out of my DS for months. Good game and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves square enix, RPGs, or just a new game to keep them occupied for a while.

Not really, I'm not a fan of fan made so I don't really consider it to be anime.

I have also had a good Anime year. Top two animes for this year are:

Umineko no Naku Koro ni (TV) - by the makers of Higarashi. Beautiful character designs and the characters keep developing even though they "restart" the story every 5 or 6 episodes. Some gore, locked door mystery where the Witch is arguing that only magic could have committed the murders.

Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari (aka St Knights Tale) - A new show with nods to a lot of old shows, notably Tenchi and Photon. Great characters, interesting character designs, mostly comedy with underlying dramatic theme. Mild nudity and fighting violence. It's a Harem Anime that explains why it's a Harem Anime within the first couple of episodes.

These are both still coming out in Japan, but they're my favourites so far this year.
