Title: Viewing Room 2011
PrimarchBentley - May 19, 2011 10:06 PM (GMT)
Just to say, I'm already working on titles for the 2011 viewing rooms. Again, the emphasis is mostly on HD, as again, we'll have 1080 projectors for the viewing rooms this year. We have the same two rooms (one larger, one smaller), and the audio and video setups will mostly be the same. The screens will be a bit higher this year (I noticed the bottom of the screens could be a bit harder to see around other people on Sat. and adjusted them upwards for Sun.).
"Once Seen, Cannot Unsee" will be returning, only this time in the larger viewing room. Included this year will be what I refer to as the 'Lightning Round' portion. B)
Some titles I currently have in mind for 2011:
Macross Frontier Gekijō-ban ~Itsuwari no Utahime~ (Macross Frontier the Movie: The False Songstress)
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha The MOVIE 1st
Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Sengoku Basara
Rideback
Baka and Test
Canaan
Eden of the East
Evangelion, Neon Genesis: 2.22 You Can (Not) Advance
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
K-ON!
Read or Die (OVA)
Spice and Wolf
Summer Wars
TO
Of course, these are tentative titles, and will depend on availability, importing, securing screening rights, etc. There are a few other titles that I'm keeping an eye on for timing on release (Redline, the live-action Yamato movie, etc.), we'll see how those go. There are some old school titles I'd like to show, currently those are in process as well.

Great list so far! I hope I can find time to see a few items.... ^_^
LK1721 - June 10, 2011 03:44 PM (GMT)
Agreed. Excellent list so far!
*Crosses fingers for Nanoha*
Anorak's Feed - June 10, 2011 04:10 PM (GMT)
Madoka Magica? 8D For maximum impact on newcomers play EP 2&3 if we get it.
Airedail - June 11, 2011 05:52 AM (GMT)
Heck the first episode of Purella is epic! Especially if you say it is a "Magical Girl" anime. It blew my mind when I watched it. But I know about half of these animes, and they are amazing. Especially Evangelion. Those movies are freaking amazing, and I'm not a huge fan of giant fighting robots.
PrimarchBentley - June 13, 2011 07:18 PM (GMT)
I already have the Nanoha movie in hand (BD, of course), and the 'already on disc' subtitles are good enough to use as they are. I'm thinking sometime during 'prime time' Fri. evening for Nanoha.
Factoid: With all the import BDs I bought last year, I had enough 'points' built up so my purchase of Nanoha was 'free' with said points. I still don't know if I should find that amusing, or a bit scary... ^_^
Madoka: first BD disc is imported, and second is in process. And yes, I wouldn't show anything less than the first 3 episodes. ;) Still considering a second 'block' in the schedule for Madoka, likely on Sun.
Eva 2.22: Since we showed 1.11 last year, I figured 2.22 should be okay for this year. Been very pleased with it so far (even if Gainax is taking their sweet time with the third movie...), it's been an interesting mix of 'frame-by-frame' remakes of the TV series, re-imagining of some parts (Ramiel (the floating octahedron) is a lot cooler this time), and new material (hints that the whole world is a reset from the TV series, ie: the LCL oceans, etc.).
What do ya'll think of Umineko? Since Funimation let the license on Higurashi expire and has expressed that they don't have "any intent to license the sequels, or any work like it," I may be nabbing the series on import BD in the near future...
Redcap - June 13, 2011 09:11 PM (GMT)
I <3 Seacats, but that probably goes without saying.
Higuu - June 21, 2011 10:32 PM (GMT)
yay madoka and eva c:
how about Steamboy
seems like it would fit very well with this year's theme too. :P
Andy - June 22, 2011 12:01 AM (GMT)
Maybe Panty and Stocking later in the evening? :3
PrimarchBentley - June 23, 2011 12:19 AM (GMT)
Higuu:
Steamboy is in the works as, as you note, one of the "thematic" shows this year. It just takes a bit longer/more involved process dealing with the rights from Sony...
Andy:
Sorry to report, but Panty and Stocking A: has been acquired by Funimation and B: is scheduled for US release in 2012 (means no show at Banzai). I'm looking at a show or two from Nabeshin to fill in some of the 'random crazy' in the late night slots...

Ah, okay. That's fine.
At least it's getting released over here. It's one of my favorites, after all.
As for any more suggestions, Nichijou maybe?
toboe-kun - June 27, 2011 10:36 PM (GMT)
I started watching Spice and Wolf last year. They took it off On Demand before I could finish. I might just take time out, if possible to come watch more of that.
Andy - July 6, 2011 01:55 AM (GMT)
I have another suggestion, what about The Animal Crossing Movie?
I just finished watching it, it's a really nice show.
mormongirlbyu - July 12, 2011 09:18 AM (GMT)
Wow...I've never seen any of those...and here I thought I knew a lot of anime. *facepalm* I've at least heard of a few, but I'll definately have to take time to sit and watch a few of these!

You can always bet on very recent shows and some fun obscure stuff in the viewing rooms at Banzai. :D While its nice to be able to see old favorites on occasion, conventions are the best places to find new series and movies to watch. Bentley works to make sure that's possible.

[SIZE=7][COLOR=red][FONT=Times][SIZE=1]Hi! I would love to see Paprika, XXXHolic-The Movie, or maybe some of Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi!

I'm back with some more suggestions, if you guys don't mind.

Too bad I have seen nearly everyone of them, Summer Wars being the best. In 2008, they had a very fun anime, animated by Studio 4degrees. I don't remember what it was, but I loved it. My group of friends and I then switched rooms, not realizing we were going to watch a very... "boys love" anime... Despite being disturbed, we had a lot of fun. One of my friends even returned home to watch the whole thing.
We might just stop by when the evening is winding down. Watch whatever anime, hopefully strange, that will be showing, even if I have seen it. Please get strange ones!!! Like Mind Game or Nekojiru-sou (Cat Soup), or anything done by Yuasa Masaaki or studio 4degrees. Also, Akagi, Kaiji, or One Outs are all really good, but not strange. One Outs would apply more to the general public. These are merely suggestions of anime that are... not main stream, so less people would have seen them. If you are looking for main stream, how about the Haruhi Disappearance movie??!!? REALLY REALLY GOOD
Redcap - July 26, 2011 06:06 PM (GMT)
If you want strange stuff, check out the "Once Seen, Cannot Unsee" viewing/panel that's going to be running again this year.
I think I'll refrain from commenting on the rest.
(Sickened? Really?)

Maybe that was too strong of a word... slightly disturbed and uncomfortable? I have nothing against that type of anime... but it isn't for me. It gave us a good laugh though.
EDIT:
It might be worth mentioning, this was back in 2008. This is the first anime I have seen where the boys love wasn't rape. I don't think anime like this would affect me anymore. I am not being judgmental or anything. I like anime others would consider strange, or would make them uncomfortable.
Redcap - July 27, 2011 06:43 AM (GMT)
Nah, it's cool. Diff'rent strokes, diff'rent folks, and all that. I'm just trying to remember what was on the viewing room list that year. >.> We didn't somehow sneak a run of GRAVITATION in there, did we?
As far as watching stuff that makes other people uncomfortable - wohoooo, boy do I know how you feel. :D
/hums the KissXSis theme. Damn you, PrimarchBentley.

Yes, Gravitation was it... I remember screaming "NO DON'T DO IT" when their shadows went down...

When it comes to strange anime, I strongly recommend checking out Tamala 2010 if you haven't already seen it. ^__^v

Wasn't there a movie based off of the manga Uzumaki? That was plenty creepy.

Summer Wars is a MUST! +3+
zoid9000 - August 27, 2011 03:19 PM (GMT)
Any chances of showing Redline?
I have a copy of the Japanese Blu-Ray with English Subtitles, if needed.
Redcap - August 29, 2011 08:49 PM (GMT)
Sadly, since the actual US release of Redline will be after the convention, we will not legally be able to show this year.

That's a shame. Hopefully next year, then.

Hopefully! That's one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. :D

Zoid9000's icon made me wonder if Mushi-Shi has a possibility of being shown? I have the whole show on DVD, english and japanese audio (and the English dub is FABULOUS. Travis Willingham does an AMAZING job as Ginko!) if you need access to it. It's not terribly well-known, is it? Though not quite as obscure as some of these seem to be.

Mushi-Shi isn't currently on the schedule. But considering next year's theme, it's almost a definite to be shown next year.
Redcap - September 8, 2011 01:20 AM (GMT)
Mushi-shi's pretty well known, at least within the scope of the internet community. However, yeah - next year it should definitely be on the list.
mormongirlbyu - September 12, 2011 05:32 AM (GMT)
Shweeeeeet! Y'know, next year might be the chance for me to make the Tanyu cosplay that I've been wanting to. Think that'd fit the theme? I dunno how mythological it is to have kanji crawling across your body, but I think it would be oodles of fun to figure out how to do it in cosplay!
ghost1515 - September 28, 2011 09:31 AM (GMT)
How about Trigun Badlands Rumble?
Also I'd love to see Eva 2.22 on a large screen.

While I can't give the final word on the schedule yet (I'm in process of nailing down screening permissions with the copmpanies), I can "hint" that you're likely to be happy on both of these accounts... ;)
PrimarchBentley - October 2, 2011 05:00 AM (GMT)
Just as a note, the web page for the viewing rooms
has been updated. ^_^
Although the final schedule is not ready to go up yet (still getting permissions from companies...), it contains some rules for the Viewing Rooms, as well as some descriptions of some of the "events." Check them out, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
PrimarchBentley - October 6, 2011 01:05 AM (GMT)
The viewing room page has been
updated again. ^_^
In this update, some clarifications about the "Late Night" viewing room, as well as overall content standard for the viewing rooms. Questions/comments/concerns about these (and the viewing room in general) can be discussed here in the forums. I would recommend starting a new thread for more "involved" discussions.

I know nothing about what it takes to get something screened at banzai, but you know what would be cool?
Interstella 5555.
Just sayin'.

And it WAS cool... when I played it in a viewing room just last year. ;)
Granted, yes, the new BD treatment should make it even more awesome (it better... <_<). But having shown it just last year, I should give it at least 'til next Banzai... It's definitely "on the radar."
