Title: Anime Banzai 2010
Description: Chit-chat about your time at the Banzai.

Ikewolfe913 - October 10, 2010 11:53 PM (GMT)
Well, how was every ones time at the convention?

I will start with myself. Hehe. :P

I was Kiba from Wolf's Rain and looking forward to doing something for realzies next year.. But I don't have a person who could help me sew.. Or anyone I know of rather. *Insert sad face here*

My time was awesome until I got a migraine at the rave/stomp Because the different light set, and the twirling of the glow sticks and seasonal change(Mainly because of the lights but yeah). But all in all I loved it and had so much fun. Saw what I wanted to see so pretty happy about that and I actually liked the band called "The Slants" They should come back next year so I can rock out like Kyo from Dir En Grey again. ^_^

(Two I got a little bit of a crush on . Three of which are from different games that I love, which were Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy XIII. Sniper Wolf, Lightning and Fang who were amazingly gorgeous and awesome.)

But yeah I saw what I wanted to see surprisingly and missed my chance to have a Leon picture because I thought he was A mafia dude but it was the outfit you get in the game. Darn it.. *Insert sad face here*

Anyway, enough about me, what about you, those who attended. Come and talk about your time at the Banzai of 2010.

Meirabates - October 11, 2010 12:17 AM (GMT)
It was my first time at Banzai. As backwards as it might be I just joined the forum now, AFTER the con is done. It was only my second con in general, and my first time trying to cosplay.

Sadly my knowledge of wigs is zilch, so I didn't feel safe with the idea of spending money on one and possibly ruining it. I was wanting to dress up as Tohsaka Rin, but due to the wig issue I was an original Hamabura Gakuen student instead. I changed to wear my new outfit I bought from the silver dragon vendor yesterday. Today I wore my old black dress cause I outgrew it a few years back, now I fit in it again, and I almost NEVER feel comfortable wearing it anywhere. I'm likely more recognizable by my skin condition than what I was wearing anyway...my cheeks look like I've got some horrible rash or acne or something.

I had a great time! The only things that disappointed me were that my last con was Anime Weekend Atlanta, so I'd showed up expecting a bigger dealer's room with a more expansive collection(but what Banzai lacked for in the dealer's room it more than made up for in the panel department...oh man the panels). Granted the other reason, which played a BIG part in the first reason, I was disappointed is because the focus on what seem to be the really popular animes of current made me realize just HOW out of touch I am with the current trends. Most of the animes that were getting the most attention were ones I disliked or didn't know.

That's not to say I'm blaming the con for my lack of being up to date, of course. x.x I just feel like I don't even fit in.

Misty - October 11, 2010 12:37 AM (GMT)
I had a blast. It was my first con ever. (I was the Misty walking around with the Plusle and Minun :) I had a blast. Everyone was really friendly. I didnt really know what to expect, but all in all it was fun. I plan on coming back next year as well, (probably as Misty again). Not only was it my first con, but it was also my first time to cosplay (of course I did a crossplay) and I didnt feel out of place or anything. Thanks for having a fun, friendly environment :3

Ikewolfe913 - October 11, 2010 12:38 AM (GMT)
Heh, It doesn't really matter really what you like or dislike. The con is basically anything and everything, but the main focus Anime Banzai (Love the word Focus.. Anyway...) is the anime I guess. But I still love going.

It has anime, games, comic, movies mixed in it. Just really anything you like in it. I went to just hang around and Being a loner pretty much. I dont really have any friends.

But thats besides the fact.. <.< >.> O.< >.O

I was pretty much a lone wolf until a select of few friends came there that I knew.

But hey some things aren't made for people I guess. Not to be rude or anything, just saying you know?

I go to the Conventions to learn to be open about things and just chill and relax. Thats just me though. ^_^

Haha. That was funny.
I remember my first time at the Con, it was some what fun.
PSYCH! It was a blast.

Yeah, I need to open up more, I'm a bit of a bedroom hermit. I kinda wanted to talk to more people but I'm so /shy/ in person that I'm amazed I opened up as much as I did in things like Karaoke Quest. Hopefully I can keep going to cons and improve each year. ^.^

Rythos - October 11, 2010 01:03 AM (GMT)
Well, this was my FOURTH year (fourth? Yes fourth) at Anime Banzai. I just joined the forum finally today. lD''

Well, cosplayed for the first time. I was the shorter No-Face around on Friday night. l3 I had a blast but I only cosplayed for that short time cause wooaahhss. Hot, difficult to see, tripping over self. Total beginner. XD'' Ah well.

Anyhow, I had a blast. The dealer's room was freakin' HUUUUGGEEE compared to before. O-O I found all sorts a cool stuff~ I was very happy with that, AND with Artist's Alley. AA is ALWAYS one of my favorite parts of the Con. I just love it sooo freakin' much. (Anyone who did a commission for the crazy person with a Chi hat who's refs were mostly words and small pictures, yeah that was me. BAJILLION THANKS OF HEAVEN. <3)

Panels/events were mostly good. I tried going to the Pokemon Center event, but it was way stuffy, way hot, and really not much of anything was going on. :/ Mehr, ya know? Looking for improvement there, personally, but some people did look to be having fun. Also, Swap Meet was awesome, though I was mostly selling the whole time (back left corner, Chi hat). Still had a blast. Hopefully, perhaps, a bigger room next time? <3 AMV Contest, despite the bugs? Some of the best time spent there. I always love it, and it was just as great this year. ^^

OH, one thing was - PJ Party. I heard it was a blast last year, but when we went this year, there were only about three events going on (and they paused both the other two during the mini Cosplay event) and it was kind of deadbeat. We left halfway through. More events next time?

Also, I had to leave early Sunday - around 1:30. Did anyone happen to stay through closing ceremonies and catch what AMVs won what categories in the Contest? I'd LOVE to know, please and thank you~

Oh, I was wanting to know that too! I had to leave right after the charity concert.

Also, in the swap meet, I was the person on the back right that just had the four VHS tapes I wanted to get rid of. My Sakura Wars tape went fast. I had to wait a bit for anyone to be interested in my Yuyuhakusho stuff, but I ended up letting someone have all three for free. OH, and if the person who sold me all the YYH manga volumes is on here, thanks again!

Saya.Setsunai - October 11, 2010 02:01 AM (GMT)
First off, I cosplayed as Mio from K-ON! on Friday. Only two people knew who I was, though. I was Link for the maid and butler cafe Saturday, and I was the waterbending Katara today.

My fifth year of Banzai xD. I had a blast! I was stressed a bit Friday because I wasn't sure how my panels turned out. I went in to the formal for two seconds, but I'm very shy when it comes to those sort of things, so I found my friend and we left.

Saturday, I had a great time at the butler cafe. My ears weren't finished all the way, so I switched them and they rotated weird xD. The dance was great, thanks for playing some KPOP! =) I'll definitely see if I can come up with K-pop panels next year.

Today was short, but cool. I was the waterbending Katara screaming 'Huzzah'! every few seconds xD. Other than the Avatar panel, I didn't do much else, but I had fun.

I wanted to go to the King's Game event! Next year I'll be 18, so I'm looking forward to that. This year I usually cosplayed as Link, but there were so many I just drifted back to Mio for the rest of Saturday.

I also want to apologize to my volunteers that I couldn't work on, 45 minutes is not enough to run a makeup panel if I'm trying to talk and explain the basics Dx. Hopefully I can expand this or have a makeup station next year.

All-in-all, I had fun, and you can count on me to come back next year and run more panels.

akemikae - October 11, 2010 02:06 AM (GMT)
I had so much more fun this year than last year! This was only my second time going, but my first time ACTUALLY cosplaying! I loved the fact that I actually got my picture taken, even if not a whole of people knew who I was (Lisianthus from Shuffle!) I still had a blast!

I got to say, the environment at conventions is really friendly, and then when it's over, you have to learn how to live in a 'non-anime oriented' area again. xD

I got a lot more pictures than last year, which makes me happy! I even managed to get some videos, however low quality they may be...xD I got IN some too. So I can't wait to see/watch those. I also want to gather the people I didn't manage to take pics of.

The only issue I had was my wig getting tangled on occasion since it was so long, but that's why my friends were for, to untangle my wig! XD Not to mention, I spent all my money on the first day! LOL. Good times...:D

Wow.. I'm surprised at the fact that I never get this much attention in a post before.

But I love to read what you guys think, love, and/or dislike. about this year's Con.

Squishy_Ninja - October 11, 2010 04:42 AM (GMT)
I had an excellent time. Of course there were some not so positive parts of my experience, but over all I had a great time. I think Banzai has come a long way in general and did a wonderful job at stepping up from last years con. So many aspects of what needed to be improved for this years con was definitely improved above and beyond my expectations, but I'll go address that in a more appropriate placed thread.

I was at my artist table most of the time. I loved seeing returning customers, and people wearing my merch that they purchased from previous years. I wasn't sure if I was even going to be able to make it this yr till about 2 weeks ago. I brought my 3 month old daughter with me. She handled wonderfully there.

I loved attending the swapmeet this year and glad I wasn't running it. There was some serious work involved in having that event set up, situated, and planed out. I think it went soooooo smoothly this yr.

I also go to catch up with some artists that I just adore and think are wonderful people.
I also saw some wonderfull cosplay. Man the Sully with the sock was classic in my eyes and so was the gal dressed up as Lain in her bear pjs. I love Lain. That really made my Sunday. I really like the word wonderful. XP

Man some of the dealers scared me. There was on dealer specifically. I picked up an item to see what exactly it was and individual running the booth in a very loud voice basically yelling, exclaimed what the item was and its price. I hadn't even asked for such info. I just dropped the item back on the table and walked as fast as I could away from him. @_@

AnywhoI look forward to attending 2011 if all goes right and I hope others also had an enjoyable time. I think the conference center was a smart move.

Anything is welcome here.

You name it.

I chuckled some at the dealer story.

Sheikah Moon - October 11, 2010 05:45 AM (GMT)
I loved the entire thing, it was amazing and I already can't wait for next year.

One of the things that made my day though was that song Warky sang "Be Depressed."

Omg, rofl. Please, please, please, does anyone have the words to that song?!

Ikewolfe913 - October 11, 2010 05:47 AM (GMT)
That was funny actually lol.
What made my time fun was during the The Slants concert.
I have it stuck in my head now!!

THANKS A LOT ! !

Hey, I was the female Pyramid Head on Saturday [and not the one in the maid outfit, and not the one from friday], I was surprised I got a few fans and some fun pictures!

It was my first con ever, and my first cosplay [serious one anyway] ever. I had a blast and loved being my character. Seriously, I think I could embodie him for the rest of my life!

Anyway, met some cool people, didn't get enough of my own pictures. I had a REALLY great time getting to know Sonny Strait [if any of you were involved in that madness you'll know what I mean!] All in all, was a great experience and would definitely return!

HMMMMM, Banzai, Banzai.

Well, I really did like the way that there was definitely more room throughout the halls as well as more rest stops. It was truly convenient and was good on my feet.

...
Other than that, I kind of find it hard to point out any positive outstanding features of this year.

The biggest problem I had was with the Dealer's Room in general. Perhaps I was expecting more or something but, good God man. It was basically down to the dealers that are there every year and no one else. The dealers were jerks. Flat out. They obviously didn't want to be there, they were annoyed with almost everything and yelled quite a bit, on top of that, they sold overpriced merchandise. Of course, the merchandise bit has been consistent throughout every year but still gotta say, 20 bucks for a 5" tall plushie? Give me a break.

I don't expect the dealers to change their behaviors and I don't expect them to stop coming but, lord almighty, it was intimidating going up to purchase things.

If we are a family friendly con, why can I go in there and see Haruhi Suzumiya and company slathered with cum and showing giant tit nipples? Also, the dealer's were selling such things as Loveless and Bible Black which are an OT rating which were not allowed to be sold in the Swap Meet but, it was okay if the dealers did. Inuyasha is also an OT rating but no one cares about that one. Evangelion is also pushing it in my opinion (I LOOOOVE Evangelion but, in reality, it's not Family Friendly). So what exactly is family friendly? I honestly don't think that the con should be family friendly just because, it...anime in general doesn't seem to be too family friendly and, ughh, I don't know...

Also, the lack of variety in that place was slightly annoying. I heard that the prices for dealers to come and sell their crap was raised up higher and chased some would-be dealers away. For example, for those of you familiar with Arsenic Fashions, the reason she wasn't there this time was because of these raises in price which, I don't understand. Were the prices raised because of the new location being expensive or what?

The Swap Meet was better last year too I thought. There seemed to be more room and stuff. My group had to sit in the center off to the side a bit and it was really strange. There was a better way to set that up, I think. Anyway, I know that the swap meet stuff is mostly controlled by the people that are selling things there but, some of that stuff was a rip off and I saw other people scamming other people. That bootleg guy was there again too. How do the staff not notice a bootleg when they see them? That was just kind of sad. Bootlegs aren't fun to have. Though, they are cheap as all hell.

I also feel that Artist's Alley and the Art Show weren't presented very well to garner any great attention. I liked how in the Sheraton, these places had their own rooms and seemed to be more effective on getting people to attend. However, this year, shoved in the back of this dull room full of everything else. I don't know, this is just my take on it.

I only went to a few panels but, they seemed to be a little chaotic and disorganized. Of course, this is not Banzai's fault but the people who set up the panels faults. Moving on, the rooms seemed as small as the ones in the Sheraton for those. I noticed that many people had to stand and that some were just flat out packed. So, no gains nor losses there as I was used to these room situations at the Sheraton.

Anime on Broadway...man. That was just....that was just bad. Was there anyway to have checked the equipment beforehand? That event seemed unprepared for and sloppy. I mean, damn, I feel bad for the people that went up there to preform and then not even be able to hear themselves or anyone else hear them.

Rant rant rant rant rant... I will stop ranting now. I just, I don't know. Over all, I had this feeling of lacking. It felt like several things were missing and it was like there were less people. The location....the location. I understand that there is no changing this either, and it is a rather fine little spot but, I mean, Salt Lake City is so much easier to get to. It's hard to go out to places like Layton with the UTA shizz but Salt Lake City is accessible through many different routes and stuff. It was a good con and I really did like the extra space but, lacking.

TrappedKitten - October 11, 2010 06:03 PM (GMT)
I'm one of those people that just love walking around and staring at people. (Creepy, I know) instead of going to panels. I just love to see everyone happy and in their cosplays.

I was Etna.. and I didn't think so many people would know who I was, but it was a wonderful surprise! I kinda had a lil crush on Kickass and V..... :P Oh, and Lady Sesshy... mmmm nummy!

Friday was pretty fun, I didn't really like Masquerade Ball.. I had high hopes for it and ended up leaving early. However, Saturday.. the DANCE WAS AMAZING! And the circle we did and had people jumping in---- made my heart skip a beat. Wonderful talent!

Interesting theory and thoughts about the con. I thought it was better then Being in the Sheraton. But I can say that the Sheraton was fun too, just it was so crowded and with the Davis COmmunity Center was actually big and more spacey. I think why they over price things is because of how bad the economy is now. So I somewhat understand it. It was like a mini Inflation in the dealer area or rather a taste of what is to come. But this isn't a political post.. Sorry to bring that bit up, heh. But I see where your going pal ^_^ and completely agree with you. (on the dealer area.)

Huh, that's odd - I bought plenty of stuff, and all the dealers I interacted with seemed very nice. They explained price when I asked, and other details too. It was very helpful. I only met one who seemed a little stressed and pushy, but that was at the end of Sunday, so obviously he was trying to sell out. -nod- The others were very patient, helpful, and humorous.

Also, prices-wise, many of these things are MUCH more expensive online. The 5-6" Pokemon Plushies? Most were from the Pokemon Center in Japan, and if you try to get those online, it can be up to like $40-50 depending on the plush, so they really were an awesome deal. (I wanted the Raikou so bad but I held back for once. xD'') Some things ARE overpriced, but others were great prices! I got some really nice, big wallscrolls for cheap and a very nice Japanese Pikachu wallet for a good price. Even the food items seemed fair, some lower than last year (6-pack of Ramune for $9, man. It was great).

You are right at what you say. Where I bought my Organization 13 coat thing the guy was nice and People were nice to me and I understand why they would be pushy.

Anime Banzai 2010... hands down my BEST Anime Banzai experience to date :D
I was America (Cowboy America Friday, Normal Saturday, and Police Neko Sunday) and had a blast! Especially with the super large Hetalia group.... *sings Ride that Mustang to herself*

Also, the bigger convention center was a serious plus. and things seemed to run alot smoother this year, even with the technical difficulties (Cosplay contest didn't last 5 hours. BIIIIG plus for me.) now if only the microphones would work and life you be good :D

Everyone is saying who they were crushing on...

Is it wrong to say I was totally crushing on myself? I mean seriously, Pyramid Head is BA.

Heh.. Hehe..
I was crushing on two indivisuals..

Lightning and Sniper Wolf.

Slay me now! Haha

But in a total non creepy way.
I don't roll that way.

I was to shy and stuff to talk to really one of the two the rest of friday.
But with the Wolf, talked some during the concert.. Which was the funnest and awesome time of the con. ^.^

Le'sigh.
I held back I guess, it happens.
I had my imaginary tail tucked between my legs and kept my distance, remained a loner hehe.

(Wolf spotting a attractive wolf afar in the wild)
I love mixing Wolf stuff with what I feel.

Ha it's all good. Nobody stood out to me but then again I have a boyfriend.

However, my own Pyramid Head-ness was awesome, I was like a totally different person! xD

Nah, I just love PH, and I loved the other costumes, but was partial to mine because, well, I made it ♥

I had great fun. It was good to see everyone again and I enjoyed helping to keep things running smoothly. I'm looking forward to even more next year now that we know our way around the DCC. :)
