"It's New York?", was the wide-eyed answer. In fact, it was more than wide-eyed. It had a you-better-fucking-be-kidding-me look to it that was made more striking by the girl's very blue eyes. Kate wrestled with the shopping bags hanging from her arms and motioned to the city spread out before them. "What else were we supposed to do?"
Actually, from the way Kate framed the question, she already has answers in mind. Answers that would likely mosey her along the way of crazy. And not just any crazy, but the patented Kate Works Herself Up Into A Demonic Riot of Crazy.
Never a good thing.
"I mean, you don't have the right clothes for this city," Kate pointed out, ever the helpful best friend. "And we're getting all these free."
She's actually amazed about that. She expected Sebastian's credit card to have maxed out by now. Maybe a trip to that luxe Sergio Rossi boutique would get the job done. That should teach the asshole not to leave his things lying around.
Kate gestured, telling Zara to get her ass in gear and follow her. Kate still hasn't told her about what she found out. If she spewed it out, it makes it more real and then she will really have to kill Sebastian. But if she had bags upon bags of expensive designer brands that he paid for, she reasoned she would probably feel more generous. So no thinking about the squick, Kate told herself. It's time for shopping and BFF moments and hogod none of that.

"So?" She retorted, ready to remind Kate that she had lived in New York before (even if it might only have been for ten months). "I'm sure we could find something much more useful to do than shopp-- Free?" Now, Zara wasn't one to enjoy shopping (if that much wasn't already clear). She found it rather pointless, really. If she needed something, she would go get it, then get out. That was her rule (usually).
On top of that, Zara's choice of clothing wasn't all that girly-- the way her father expected her to dress. She didn't have a bad sense of fashion, no, but she preferred to keep it to the minimum. Jeans and a shirt (usually skinny jeans), with the addition of a scarf and boots. Living mainly in the colder regions of the US, Zara was used to dressing to her own comfort.
But, hey, when free was mentioned and her best friend was involved, Zara didn't mind it too much.
"And what do you mean I don't have the right clothes? I happen to like my clothes thank you very much."
"How's it fr-- Ohhh, that new roommate right? What'd he do this time?"
ooc: I hope it's okay to assume that she has complained before about him XD Let me know if I should change it.

Kate turned away from Zara so that her friend wouldn't see the look on her face.
"Nothing," she answered, refusing to even think of what - or who - that guy was doing at the moment. Self-control, something Kate Harper has always lacked, had been stretched to the limit that day it's a wonder she hasn't spammed her mother's phone demanding from her mom to report to her now now now. They haven't talked yet, Bianca and her, not really, even though Bianca had been hoping for some heart to heart. Right now Kate's only demand was some time to accept this was all happening.
And space.
Preferably between her and him.
You can't blame the girl.
This situation she found herself in was severely fucked up.
"Can't a girl just want to shop? Why do you have to assume it's therapy?" She told Zara nothing except the obvious. That her apartment of one was actually an apartment of two and both their claims on the space were valid. The only way out of the land lock was for one to give in and as things stood, it's never going to happen. Sebastian, minus his housemate, loved his new place. For Kate, it was a matter of pride and principle and TEAM MATT!
Still, she's grateful Zara mentioned Sebastian.
She was starting to maybe - just a little - feel bad about what she was doing. The reminder what he was doing was so much worse strengthened her resolve to drain his bank account.
"Anyway, you haven't told me about Jared yet..." No one has ever accused Kate as a criminal mastermind who could quick think her way at diverting any topic she was currently trapped in. It's hard for them, because she's such a spazz. These people were wrong. "Is he... I mean, do you think he still like me? He's probably seeing someone else, though."

Erm... did she ever stopped?
Kate blinked, and looked at her friend, wondering what her friend was smoking to even ask such a thing. Jared has - always have been - the love of her life. All ten - wait, eleven? - years of it, since she first punched him for daring to say the lemonade she was selling that long ago summer was kinda sour. Granted, back then it had been puppy love, and there was a sketchy period during freshman, sophomore and junior year in MPA when she crushed on any boy who gave her the time of day, but it's always been made clear Jared was always at the top of The List. He was The One. Kate wanted him desperately to be The One.
And then he blew it.
And, sure, she'll admit it, she sorta contributed to that, too.
It just seemed that, between kissing and dating, they never really got the communication aspect of a relationship down pat, and before she knew it, she was someone else's girlfriend and he was dating a different girl.
Madness ensued.
They were just getting their second chance rolling when Danny happened.
Love and The One sort of paled in comparison to the problems Kate had to navigate in then, and they parted ways as friends, not lovers. Still, Kate nursed a hope. Third try was the charm, right?
"Maybe," she admitted reluctantly. "I mean, it's Jared. Why isn't he seeing anyone?"

It was like watching a soap opera, except being directly involved but not really being directly involved (and that's just how Zara liked it). She had watched Kate crush on Jared and vice versa, then waited forever for something to happen between them and once it did, it all was just thrown out almost as quickly as it happened. It got a little frustrating, and Zara felt that the two of them really made a good couple. Besides, it was a good idea putting the two people you care about together right? That way you can keep an eye on them easier. That way, it's easier to get along and it's easier to be with the people you care about when they're well, together.
That said, Zara didn't really focus on her own love life during her stay at MPA, and the whole business with Kate and Jared may have been a cover up to not focus on her life. Maybe, she wasn't ready for a relationship at all. She had gotten to MPA mourning over Ryan's death so romance was definitely the last thing on her mind. But how much time did she really need before getting herself out there? (Besides, she's picky about people in general. So it's not as easy for Zara.)
She wasn't sure if she was ready for it now either. She was worried that one day she might lose Kate, someone she wasn't ready to give up again, ever. But it seemed like whenever someone got close to Zara, they ended up moving away from her (one way or another). Jared had been a surviving person and she really hoped it would stay that way.
But Zara didn't like to think about it for too long. It created too much tension and stress-- something that she could live without. She didn't need any more stress than she already had.
Zara grinned. "Because he likes you, idiot."

"He has a funny way of showing it," Kate muttered. He never really fought for her, she thought now, resentment making her unreasonable. It reminded her like wasn't love. It was just like. "I mean, he liked Charlotte fine, too."
Rejection and depression was once again seeping into her good, mad mood and Kate squeezed her eyes shut and tried to push it away. Which meant, Jared was bared as topic material. Rewind and or delete. Okay.
"How about you?" Three words, yet Kate managed to give it variety of tone like an Asian language. She reached out, her wrist burdened with shopping bags full of expensive brand names and shoved her friend lightly. "Found anyone you like yet?"
Zara needed to get laid had been the popular opinion back in highschool, and secretly, Kate had agreed. Zara had been too tense, too raw, too sensitive. She needed a guy to loosen her up.
