The beach sparkled magnificently as the suns warming light reflected brilliantly off of the waves as they made their way calmly to the shore in an endless pattern; soaking the same strip of beach before being forced back to the salty depths of the vast ocean. Signs of a recent storm were evident in the abundance of large, aged pieces of driftwood left scattered upon the shore, still damp to the touch; the sand beneath darkened by shadow and left over water. It was upon one of the larger stumps, long ago abandoned by the sea, the sun and remaining salt having leeched it of all color, that the red headed beauty perched, petite feet swinging to and fro beneath the rather plain fabric of her dress, her clear sea blue eyes watching each movement with nothing but amazement. Her brilliant red hair hung, for once, away from her face in damp strands around her newly covered shoulders, leaving the cloth along her back dark where it had soaked up sea water.

The slight flush of her cheeks hinted that she had been seated upon the rough wood and in line of the sun for quite some time, though it seemed the maiden couldn't be brought to worry as her eyes continued to stay trained upon her feet. So surprised was she by the sudden appearance of her legs, she had not even paid thought to the notion that she would be required to put them to use for walking. It was such an amazing feat that her rather impressive tail had split into two even more extravagant legs, that she had not been able to move onto the possibilities had opened for her. But, as a seagull let loose with a joyous cry, her eyes and attentions were at last pulled away from her new found miracle, and the problems with this new found life started to weigh down upon her.

It would eventually become dark and she very well couldn't stay the entire night upon this stump, or, even still, return to her home beneath the sea. She would need to be able to get to some sort of shelter, and for that she would need to know how to walk. This idea only seemed to please her as her face set with a determined smile and she suck in deep breath, held it for a few moments, and let it out quickly while she planted her hands upon her perch and slowly pushed her weight upon her newly formed legs. Her smile only grew as she stayed upright without any sort of support from the piece of driftwood, her eyes widening as she looked down at the image of herself in a form she had only seen within the faded pages of books and painted upon the walls of shipwrecks.

"well now, this can't be to difficult." She mused to herself in light tones, letting slip with a soft chuckle, filled with pure amazement.

Though her words seemed to be false, as she shifted her weight from both feet onto one and slid it forward to take a step, though it did not go as planed, for the minute she lifted her foot to move it forward, her weight got to the best of her, sending her tumbling to the sandy earth in a heap of hair and fabric. She sat up quickly, blowing hair from her eyes and looking out at the water. Definitely not as easy as swimming. She thought to herself, but proceeded to push herself up once more, only to land upon the sand moments later, having only taken a few short steps. Laughter overtook her, keeping her from trying again. Instead she rolled over onto her back, continuing to emit a melodic laugh as she looked up at the sky.
