This was a triumph. I’m making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS. It’s hard to overstate my satisfaction. I’m not even angry. I’m being so sincere right now. Even though you broke my heart and killed me. And tore me to pieces. And threw every piece into a fire. As they burned it hurt because, I was so happy for you.

Monday, a rainy Monday had just started and for once, Sara actually felt pretty good about having the duty at the front desk. She probably wouldn’t enjoy having to write tickets in the rain. The station was quiet as most of the officers were looking through their outlook in order to see if any important, work-related mails had popped in over the weekend. So far no one had really come to the station in need of help or wanting to report anything. Sara leaned back in her office chair and glanced absentmindedly down at her computer as an e-mail came in. She leaned forward a bit and quickly opened it and read through it. It was just a stupid joke send internally by one of her colleagues. Sara turned her head to look into the nearest office where the cop who had sent her the joke smiled widely, almost laughing. Sara shook her head and closed the e-mail.
She then turned her attention back at the police station entrance, hoping that someone would be having business at the station. Looking over at the door she decided that most people probably had work to do, and those who hadn’t work at the moment would probably wait until the rain stopped. She couldn’t be sure of this though. She decided that she would have the time to quickly make a cup of tea.
When she came back to the desk, the entrance was as empty as before. Sara started to change her mind about this desk job. But as soon as she thought about how boring this day could be, someone walked in. A young man stepping into the station from the rain looking like he had been here before, or at least around a station often. Sara leaned a bit forward in her chair and smiled politely.
“Can I help you, Sir?” She asked not really hiding her Portland accent.
