This topic is dedicated to my Bowls carrer!
Right Starting this is the best place; two weeks ago this Sunday, I was in Northampton shire, Caroline Christohm School. The Game was The WoodBridge trophy, a 4s tournament for U18 players. Somerset Brought in two teams:
25 Counties entered and 7 of them had second teams. We had 32 teams. The WoodBridge Trophy is done as a round-robin, so that everyone plays 6 games, and there is NO FINAL. The teams that win are the ones that have the best record.
Our First Match was on Mat no. 7, Mack had a shocker, but, We did beat Hampshire quite comfortably, I said "Thats for the nationals Mate" as he was the one that took me out of the nationals a couple of months beforehand. The next match was againsed Essex, who we beat 8-2 on Mat 7. Our third match was againsed Lancashire 2 and a catastophic error of judgement by yours trulli, by putting Mat skip, a five later, and we were back the way we were. At this point we were in 9th place overall, and for a team expecting to be in top 5 we weren't doing well, going into lunch, however our other team was doing well, leading the standings by 2 shots.
After Lunch, we had to play Lancashire 1. But we had a secret weapon, Mack was on it now. A 7 on the second end gave us an unpredicted 10-4 scoreline. We played a good Kent side next (Well, the skip was a good player, but I wouldn't have given a bowl to the lead.) And then the big one, againsed Devon, to win. Devon were in 5th place, and we were in 2nd place.
A win, and we would stay in 2nd, and them in 5th, a loss, and we would swap places. We needed to win by 10 to win the tordament. It didn't start well, 5-1 down with 2 ends to play. The 6th end is where we should have won it. Holding 5, and It was my job to put a blocker in. My Blocker just stopped a centimeter short of the optimum place, and held a place where the jack was still visable, but it made the shot a lot harder.
The opposition skip was now in real trouble, I was holding 6, with a wood to play where we could have scored a maximum, and had to play the jack into the ditch. He got the shot with an inch to spare. We were 2 down, but won the last to finish the day in 5th, our other team lost thier last game too, and thus lost the toudament to, 5-6, and finished 4th.
The winners should have been disqualified for entering an elegible team though...
Anyway, the teams:
Somerset 1: Mack Barnstaple (Lead) Toby Barnstaple (Second) Mathew Chapman (Third) Edward Dyer (Skip)
Somerset 2: Sophie Wright (Lead) James Attwood (Second) Kevin Pinkawa (Third) Dan Windhill (Skip)
Coach/Team Capitian: David Attwood

County Trials!
I started playing for the PREM, what we did is play the new comers with the PREM side, againsed the A side. The first match Andy/Mac/Me/Tristan againsed a couple of A side players. We won easily 12-4. The second game I played skip in a four for the 'A Side' With the team being Andy/Ian/David/Me. We were playing Mark Barrinson - An england player/ Justin Haskins and two new players. My Luck was in as we took a 5-4 lead, but a three gave them a two point lead with an end to go. As I went up to play, we were 6 down, with only 2 woods on the mat. I played an extremly heavy wood down, and it split all the 6 holding shots out, leaving us with 4! Mark's Draw was very good, and I needed a great fire to win the match. It came off! Wicked the shot wood away to win 9-7. The thrid game I played pairs for the 'A' Side. Me and Andy vs Matt Chapman and Alan Berry - We won the first 6 ends, having an 10-0 lead. The next 3 ends they scored 3 on each, 10-9. However, we scored a maximum on the last, and I won all my games.
I have a county game in a fortnight againsed London.
Next reports will be Blackbrook, for the tripples and four this Weekend

Ok, Taunton: Tripples; 1.Rob Johnston 2.Mat Chapman S.Edward Dyer Rob played like a spastic in the first game, he really did. Every single end (Mostly) we were 1 or 2 down when Matt picked up his bowl. We were playing Morris Stag, a half-decent player, but we still should have won. Anyone else playing, and it would have been an easy win. A miss by yours trulli, tring to force 5 shots never came off, as we lost 10-8. The next game we won, as Rob had found something - The wieght! He was on it, and we overcame a group of old ladies 21-0. The Third game I can't really remember much of, as for a start, I wanted to eat, and 2, we were allredy Out, Morris Stag had won all of thier games. The third game we won I believe 10-1. Templecombe 1 - alan Berry, Jim Mannel, Hezel Berry lost in the Semi-finals Fours: 1.Tina Chapman 2.Rob Johnston 3.Mat Chapman S. Edward Dyer Our first game we played was an epic match vs Templecombe! Alan Berry Skipped our other four. 1.Pauline Mannel 2.Jim Mannel 3.Hazel Berry 4.Alan Berry Without Hazel, We would have destroyed them. Hazel was just on it.... All day. We did however go one up with three ends to play, and I drew in two amaizing woods even though mat said "woah, Ed that's gunna be useless!" they both flew over onto th jack. We were on the brink of a historic victory, as Alan had won this competition 5 times: 1998, 1999, 2000, 2004, 2006. But, as predictable as he is, Alan scored a six on the next end. We then needed an imposiible shot to get three on the last end, and needless to say, I missed. Second match was againsed Copton. Even Without David "Animal" Wright - County Pairs Player, Champion of champion for the south - They still beat us, as his Sister - Sophie wright was doing enough to beat Matt. Third game, we put Rob up skip, and for a laugh I went Lead. Our team now looked like: 1. Ed Dyer 2.Matt Chapman 3.Tina Chapman 4.Rob Johnston This, believe it or not, actually worked! We went quickly into the lead. This annoyed George - the opposition skip, as he accused us of using County Tactics, and Rob playing Four woods. Our arguement was that we wouldn't want Rob to play 4 woods! It just proves, sometimes, you need a good team, and not just a couple of good players. Me and mat Are both full members of the England U18 England team.

East Cocker Tripples 2007
Templecombe, last year only put in one team:
L. Mathew Chapman 2. Kevin Pinkawa S. Andrew Pinkawa
This team ended with a bad semi-final loss.
This year however, Templecombe, had two teams again! The teams were
Templecombe A!
L.Edward Dyer 2.Andrew Pinkawa S.Alan Berry
Templecombe B!
L.Pauline Mannel 2.Jim Mannel S.Hazel Berry
Our first game was againsed Birchfield - the esiest team in the competition. We found it very tough, as for a start, I can't play lead to save my life! And Alan was having some trouble too.. We still won 10-8 but it was tough, as the mat was diabolical! But then... we had another 2 matches on it. We still had problems in the next two matches, but somehow we got away with it.
The other team, had the hardest team in the copetition to play againsed, the welsh. They too had two teams here, but the Skewen "A side" was the one that won the welsh nationals the year before. They witewashed the welsh team! 10-0. That knocked out last years winners!
Semi-Finals
Welsh B - Templecombe A Templecombe B - Boltonsborgh
How Boltonsborgh made it to this point is beyond me! But a quick win for Hazes team left them reeling, but a quick way home was imminent, as they were not playing in the 10s later that day. We however didn't play well, I was still awful, and Andy was the only player playing well. We came out 16-11 loosers, but had to wait for the 10s later that day!
The final could have been the exact opposite of last years tordament! With Wales A playing Wales B last year, we could have had Templecombe A vs Templecombe B. But It was not to be. Pauline picked up her first ever trophy from tordament play, but it wasn't a winners, as the welsh boys celebrated the 13-9 win by running over to the sheep pen opposite the hall!
10s report to come!

East Cocker Tens Compeitition 200710s isn't a hard concept. Basically, you play 1 four, 1 tripple, 1 pair, and a Single. Our Team was: SinglesS. Alan Berry PairsL. Pauline Mannel S. Hazel Berry TripplesL. Tina Chapman 2. Jim Manell - Captian S. Edward DyerFours1.Jean Heart 2.Chris Biss 3.Mike Manns S.Andrew Pinkawa Last year the table looked like so: 1.Wales - 28 (out of a possible 32! ) 2.Templecombe 19 3.Bourton 15 4.Cerne Abbas 10 5. Hazelberry Brian 4. This year, however, we were determned. After the games with Bourton and HazelBerry, we had the following Singles: 4 points + 18 Pairs: 0 points - 4 Tripples: 4 points + 54!!!!!!! Fours: 4 points + 8 Next match was againsed the welsh, we needed to win 2 or more of the games to win, but what happened: Singles - lost 17-10 Pairs - Won 13-12 Tripples - Lost 12-13 Fours - Lost 9-11 We still had the advantage, but we would not need to loose much more. Wales, however, put all the pressure on, with a whitewash on Cerne Abbas! We needed to win 3 of the last games, to win overall!: Singles: 12-13 loss Pairs: 13-1 Win Tripples: 20-1 Win :notworthy: :notworthy: Fours: 9 all last end........ .... but andy left an opening, which Stan drew onto the jack, and forced a dead end, meaning a draw! Final Scores!1.Wales (Skewen) 23 Points 2.Templecombe 22 Points 3.Bourton 11 points 4.Cerne Abbas 9 points 5.Hazelberry Bryan 5 points... oh welll...

TIBC Club Singles competitionsFirst Up is the Junior Singles. Rules: 4 woods 7 ends 1 group of 6 Previous Winners2002 - Ed Dyer2003 - Ed Dyer2004 - Mathew Chapman 2005 - Ed Dyer2006 - Kevin Pinkawa This Year, we had an all time low of 6 enter the competition - And the three main Contenders - (Me, Mat and Kev) all in the same group. Here is how it works: Group 1 - (My group) 1.Robert Johnston 2.Mathew Chapman 3. Ed Dyer4.Chantelle Manns 5.Kevin Pinkawa 6.Tiffany Fudge So, first round in our group, and we played all the people next to us; i.e 1 vs 2, 3 vs 4. So, none of the three main contenders would play each other in the first match. The results: Robert Johnston 5-8 Mathew Chapman To be honest, Rob Nearly (and not for the last time that day) caused an upset. Last end it was 5-6, and Rob bailed out. Edward Dyer 11-2 Chantelle Manns A better scoreline than it should have been really, was two down on the fifth end, at 5-2, and missed the cannon, flew across and played the jack into the ditch for a maximum 4. Kevin Pinkawa 12-0 Tiffany Fudge Kev didn't waist any time in dispatching Tiff, who hadn't played in 6 months before that day. other than the first and the last end, Tiff didn't even look like scoring... Second Round Chantelle Manns 8-3 Tiffany Fudge Chantelle played well and Tiff shouldn't have lost by as much but Chantelle got a couple lucky shots... Mathew Chapman 2-13 Kevin Pinkawa Well. That pretty much means that If I don't make any slip ups, I can say really, that it is me and Kev advancing. But..... Robert Johnston 5-6 Edward DyerThe curse of the last end was what Rob called it! Rob played Awesome in the match, and did have a fair bit of luck, to get to 5-1 after 5 ends. I had 2 ends to score 5 to win, or a maximum to draw. 6th end I played a shot to try and score a maximum, which missed, hit my wood up for shot. So, I needed 3 for a draw. But, I had the mat. I drew my first two very close indeed. Then put one behind and another infront! Holding 4, Robert Made me wait for a very long time, but then was too heavy with his last wood, and I made the imposssible, possible with an amaizing last end! Third roundMathew Chapman 5-5 Edward DyerA great match, as It always is, but 5-4 down last end, holding 2, and Matt fired, missed, and took one of them out from a wick. Very lucky, but he scored a draw. Robert Johnston 7-3 Tiffany Fudge Nothing really interesting, Rob was really far better. Chantelle Manns 5-6 Kevin Pinkawa Kev made his first mistake. He very, very nearly came unstuck by the youngest competitor, (12) in the competition. The England U18 player had to win it on the last end. Fourth RoundRobert Johnston 4-5 Chantelle Manns Well played Chantelle! To be honest, this was always going to a good, tight match, and I was looking forward to see what trhe result was. Edward Dyer 4-8 Kevin Pinkawa Actually, this was tighter than it looks. I was 4-6 down last end, and I had to play the jack to somewhere where I had a wood, to get two. But, I missed completely, and gave 2 away. Mathew Chapman 6-7 Tiffany Fudge Wow. I really did not expect this! I really shouldn't have said "If you beat matt, I'll pay you a fiver..." I really didn't want to pay... . Final GameEdward Dyer 12-2 Tiffany Fudge Bah, I knew I'd win, I played her 15 times, and it's 15-0. Biggest score was 19-0. Smallest was 9-4. I proved it with some showy shots to entertain the crowds, Becuase I knew I couldn't be caught, or catch Kevin for the title. Mathew Chapman 13-6 Chantelle Manns Cagey stuff. 4 for Chantelle on the first, 4 for Matt on the second, 2 for Chantelle on the third, 4 for matt on the 4th. Good match though, no real defence, all attacking play, wierdly from two great drawers. Robert Johnston 7-11 Kevin Pinkawa Kev celebrated the title in great fashion with an amaizing full 10 points. The same score as when Mathew Chapman won the championship in 2004, when there was also 6 players. Final Table1.Kevin Pinakwa 10 points +30 Shots 2.Edward Dyer 7 points +16 Shots 3.Mathew Chpman 5 points +1 Shots 4.Chantelle Manns 4 points -8 Shots 5.Robert Johnston 2 points -11 Shots 6.Tiffany Fudge 2 points -19 Shots So then Kev wins the championship. But, I still keep my record of coming in the top two ever season. 2002 - Ed Dyer - 2nd - Sam Bengifield 2003 - Ed Dyer - 2nd - Sam Bengifield 2004 - Mathew Chapman - 2nd Ed Dyer2005 - Ed Dyer - 2nd Mathew Chapman 2006 - Kevin Pinkawa - 2nd Ed Dyer2007 - Kevin Pinkawa - 2nd Ed Dyer
