Title: Changing of the Guard
X-Men Narrator - September 8, 2010 12:14 AM (GMT)
One man sat firmly in a chair, a high tech device palced around his head as his faith led him to not stop. The man was Charles Xavier, the advocate that one day humanity and mutantkind would. coexist and live together in peace. But after M-Day, his dream had been shattered into too many pieces to pick up. With mutantkind on the very verge of extinction, he strived to find any remaining mutants in the world, to protect them.
Charles slid off the cerebro helm and slammed it no the table in frustration. " There must be more out there, i cannot let my dream die, there is always hope, always."
Scott was leaning against a wall, his arms folded. " Times have changed Charles, and with that,we have to change and adapt, this isnt the same world anymore." Scott walked over, glancing up at the screens as Cerebro was still panning through the entire world, trying to find the presence of mutant signatures that had survived M-Day.
Xavier shook his head. " There is still Hope, we havent come this far to just give up, I believe Hank can eventually find a way to revive the X-Gene in time, until then I will not give up searching."
" Just remember who is the leader of the X-Men now, you do what you must, but I have to gear everyone to survive, and i'll do what I need to do to make sure they do." Scott said before Charles placed the Cerebro helm back over his head.

Hank only caught the last few words of what Charles and Scott were speaking about, but he got a knot in the pit of his stomach as he heard Scott say he was now the leader of the X-Men. He knew Charles had likely planned for this day, but Hank was equally as sure Charles ha dnot really anticipated it coming until he himself was no more.
"Good monring. I'm sorry I didn't bring a cup of coffee, Scott," Beast said as he walked into the room. "Good morning, Charles. I managed to get a few scones before Pete decided to use those as part of his morning repast. He cooked for everyone today. And Kari...well, I could tell by the look in her eyes that the more metaphysical realms are not yielding any help at the moment. She said she'd be down to speak with you later."
Hank set down the cup of tea and the scones on a table near the main console. Charles would get to them when he was ready.

"Thank you Hank, you've been most helpful." Charles said as he placed the tea and scones to the small table to his side. Cerebro in the background was still panning throught the world in attempt to find survivors.
Charles looked at the screen, then back to Hank. "Any progress on the X-gene?" But before Hank could answer, something happened. Charles grabbed his head as if something was bothering him. At the same time cerebro started to go berzerk, the screen vibrating.
Charles fell out of his chair, still grasping his head. The screen on cerebro began to flash, new mutant born, location Cooperstown,Alaska. The screen blinked several times and then it exploded as cerebro sparked and began to shut down completely. All the lights in the mansion began to flicker and explode.
Blood trickled from Charles nose as he looked to Hank. "Could this be correct? The first mutant child born since M day?" At this point, there were far more questions than answers.

"Charles!" Hank shouted as everything seemed to happen at once. "Scott, I have things in hand here. Emma might need you," Beast added as he knelt at Charles' side. "When has Cerebro been wrong, Charles? I can't recall one time when it was wrong," he added as he helped his mentor and friend get in a more comfortable position. "But I agree. We will need more proof that a new mutant has come into this world. It seems Cerebro will need repairs before it can be of help to us again."
Beast looked at the tea and scones on the desk. It seemed impossible that a few moments ago he was in the kitchen having a fairly normal morning, and now here he was in the middle of what could be the greatest boon the mutant community had seen in many, many days.
"As soon as I know you're fine, Charles, I'll check on the others. There were enough non-telepaths in the kitchen to take care of any who might have felt what happened. If the need me, they'll call me."

"Charles? Are you in there? Scott?" Ororo said as she walked down the hallway to Cerebro. She had Emma under one arm, and the White Queen seemed peeved about that.
"You can let me walk on my own, your highess," Emma muttered as she steadied herself. "I'm fine. And I told you they are in there. I was headed here when you found me."
"You did not look fine when I found you. Scott, perhaps you can talk some sense into Emma," Ororo added as they walked into Cerebro. "What happened?"
"You are a sight for sore eyes, my friend," Hank said as he finished checking Charles. "Charles made a discovery. A mutant birth in Alaska."
"By the Goddess! Did that take Cerebro offline?" Ororo asked as she moved closer to Charles. "And take out the power?"
"Yes, that seems to be the case," Hank replied as he turned his attention to Emma. "Emma, Ororo is right. You look..."
"Blame it on Kari, her insane family and Logan," Emma muttered as she rubbed her temples. "At least they were pushed into making a decision about something!"
Ororo spun and looked at Emma. "Emma, please. They deserve their privacy."
"Well then tell your friends to stop broadcasting. It is so...common."

Kurt teleported into the room and instantly ran to Charles side. "Vhat happened Charles, are you okay?" Kurt helped Hank get Charles up to a chair. He was concerned for Charkes health, he had been over worked trying to find surviving mutants and now the overload from cerebro.
Charles shook his head. "I'm fine, i'm fine, right now the importance is to find out about what cerebro has found, if this is true, we must find this child first." Charles tried to get up, but his body was still a little bruised and sore. Hank and Kurt stayed clsoe by. " Others will be after this child, we must hurry, this may be our only hope."
Scott tended to Emma as he looked at the others. "Hank and Kurt help Xavier to the command room, Ororo gather the others." Scott then brushed strands of hair from Emma's face. "We will need your beautiful mind now more than ever, they will be happy we have you." He kissed Emma as they too made thier way tothe command room.
