In Soviet Russia, Lomo wishes it had YOU.

Aside, you can do what KS did and use real places as backgrounds. Then do some wicked editing shit and make it look post-apocalyptic.

Or you could extend your social links and look for an actual drawfag.

I'll just stick to composing music.

Yeah, but if we were to release a shorter story first before diving into the original project? Writing a believable post apocalyptic world isn't easy and the larger the scope of the story, the more the details have to be well polished to avoid wall bangers.

Or maybe shopping doesn't work well with those? I wouldn't know. All I have is my cell phone cam.

A short story sounds cool though. Maybe we can dish out ideas in this thread.

I really want to stay away from romance.

Anyone would confuse the third line for referring only to the second.

------------
Every story could do with a bit of romance. Just don't make the story revolve entirely around it, like Key VNs do.

Suggestion: Postmodernist fantasy!
A story that demeans life's meaningfulness! Characters go around debating the consequences of their superpowers on the structure of a fantastic society and government, all the while realizing the futility of it all! There are flying maids and lazer-chargin' meganekkos and loli hikikomoris with healing powers! And a cynical male protagonist who hates everyone.

I was actually thinking something along the lines of Welcome to Ravenloft or The Shining Trapezohedron.

Just because it's a VN doesn't mean it has to use anime tropes.

If you can get more details on a story like that I'll help out if we all agree that it's the sort of thing we would like to release.

The synopsis you posted just made me groan but I'm willing to give it a bit of a chance.

a small group of friends spend their free time making fun of pretty much everything around them, with private recurring jokes. one of their jokes concerns a big conspiracy involving the city's central business district, it's windy climate, underground walkways, and the country's underdeveloped railway system.

little do they know that all of these are true, and the conspirators are intent on silencing anyone who knows the secret.

the winds are changing.
the Obelisk is charging.
the RCBC Plaza knows all.

This actually sounds very doable.

We could just put up silhouetes of the characters MST3K style over the photographs of the locations.

That, and it lets us do the Higurashi thing.

idunno.

guy was cleaning up his apartment, when he finds an tacky-looking pocket watch.
he starts to have vague memories of being a member of a real sentai group?

then you can either:
-deconstruct the sentai genre (but everyone deconstructs nowadays)
-make a parody (honestly do not want)
-make a TWEEST (depends on the TWEEST)
-seriously make a noncampy-but-fun sentai story (i don't know how)
-ends in ronery (unexpected end)

Alte the Rat: hmm. reading the synopsis
Alte the Rat: it's pretty different
Lexer: Yeah.
Alte the Rat: except for the sentai, everything is
Lexer: Just that a Sentai thing is really tacky to write out of Japan.
Alte the Rat: thing is, i don't want it campy
Lexer: That's kind of hard
Lexer: What did you have in mind?
Alte the Rat: just think of them as a superpowered group
Lexer: Heroes
Alte the Rat: nah
Alte the Rat: more organized
Lexer: That implies something like AEGIS in Gatekeepers
Alte the Rat: that'd work perfectly.
Lexer: That wouldn't fit in a short one
Lexer: Or would it?
Alte the Rat: we'd make up a world for this, then pull up a short story
Lexer: Yeah, something like that.

--------
i'm thinking of a protagonist like ryougi shiki; makes a living by work-for-hire(a transporter?). plot's just there to move things along.

Then we can scrap the anime tropes. We can use a dark, horrific setting instead. Don't know anything about DnD, though, and I've yet to read Lovecraft's stuff.

Postmodernism.

QUOTE
It is both a continuation of the experimentation championed by writers of the modernist period (relying heavily, for example, on fragmentation, paradox, questionable narrators, etc.) and a reaction against Enlightenment ideas implicit in Modernist literature.
For example, instead of the modernist quest for meaning in a chaotic world, the postmodern author eschews, often playfully, the possibility of meaning, and the postmodern novel is often a parody of this quest. This distrust of totalizing mechanisms extends even to the author; thus postmodern writers often celebrate chance over craft and employ metafiction to undermine the author's "univocal" control (the control of only one voice). The distinction between high and low culture is also attacked with the employment of pastiche, the combination of multiple cultural elements including subjects and genres not prehviously deemed fit for literature.

QUOTE
Metafiction is a literary term for a type of fiction that systematically and self-consciously addresses the devices of fiction, including the relationship between fiction and reality and the uses of irony and self-reflection.

And I plan to fuse it with fantasy.
I don't really have a more detailed synopsis idea yet but my main idea is that we create a fantastic world and put it inside a box. The narrator is a biased god who merely watches over everyone's struggles. And because everyone is inside a box, the god thinks their lives are meaningless.
The inhabitants of this world are very similar to our's. They have religion and politics. The only difference is that they're... fantastic or unreal or medieval.
They soon develop an inkling of this "god" and start to lose hope in a life with meaning.
The main character, on the other hand, is the only one who believes that their absurd and fantastic life has a meaning. He strongly believes it. And because of that, the narrator/god will ensure he suffers.

tl;dr
Narrator is a god and thinks life is meaningless.
People of the world start to think the same thing.
Main character believes in life's meaning and will suffer because of it.

Of course, this isn't the story proper. It's just a premise. It doesn't really have a story yet. Maybe you guys can fill it up.

EDIT: oh lol look at all the posts that happened while I was typing this.
