Wolf's Tear usual summer heat has just begun to fade as a touch of Autumn blows cold air from down the mountains. It brings rains which cool for a time, but it's far more water than the land can stand leaving large pools of water across the landscape. The heat of midday evaporates these pools and leaves all of Wolf's Tear bathed in hot, sticky humidity.
The river has practically become a place of worship for the wolves in this humidity. With their winter coats just beginning to grow in the wolves of both packs have to find ways to stay cool.

He didn't let his disappointment show outwardly. She hadn't gone to her own crucible yet, but she would. He hoped she didn't burn to ash when she did. He kept eating for a bit, accepting the silence. "So, what is your passion? And I do not mean something like to learn as much as I can, or to grow stronger. Those are actions in the pursuit of passion. What truly drives you?"

Rebecca had to stop eating again; she couldn't focus on one while giving deep thought to the other. "These are unusual questions to be asking at breakfast," She joked, before shrugging. "Without spending a great deal of time thinking about it the only answer I can give you is knowledge. Knowledge is my passion, and the pursuit of it drives everything I do. Then again," She continued as she reached for her glass. "I'm barely 18. I know nothing! I can study philosophy but it doesn't make me any wiser."
He smiled at how wise such a statement that truly was. "Have you not heard the quote of the oracle of Athens speaking on why Socrates was so incredibly wise? Or the story of the Queen of Sheba when she tested King David?" Most people her age assumed they knew everything, or at least enough to get by on their own. Just how many ended up crawling back home with nothing to show for all their efforts....

Rebecca chuckled. "Yes of course. It just proves I can't answer your philosophical questions this early in the morning in the middle of breakfast. My mind only has so much stamina." She waved her hand airily, amusement clear through her tone. "Have mercy on a youth, please." She began rounding off her plate of the last bites, having enjoyed the meal immensely.
He shrugged. He supposed it might be too early for someone who hadn't been riding a high most of the night. He walked over to the counter, pulling off another dust cover, revealing a top notch espresso machine. He started the machine and told it to make a double shot for him. He turned around to face her. "Do you partake?" It would be a minute or two for the steam to build up and for all the little calibrations to align in the machine, so he went to the cream he had left out and poured some more into a cup to froth. "I like starting my mornings with a double macchiato."

Rebecca stepped back from the counter, laying her silverware on the plate. She wandered over to the gentleman, studying the expresso machine. She never made the coffee herself while at home (benefit of cooks and other avid coffee drinkers in the house) and her tutor only had a regular coffee maker. "Generally not, but I could do with one this morning. I'll just have whatever you're having, if it's not too much trouble."
He nodded his head to her request. As the espresso started dripping into the cup he frothed the cream, heating it up wit the steam wand before bring it closer to the surface, making a thick cream foam. When the shots had pulled, he hit the button for the second pair for his guest and pulled out a spoon. Carefully, he ladled a spoon of the foam onto the surface of the espresso and passed it on to her.
"I would say the macchiato is the poached egg of the coffee world...if that makes any sense. Those who have them are very precise about how the expect it to be made, and when you drink it, you have that impact of flavor that mellows and combines with the cream, just as the yolk popping in your mouth changes and mellows as it fades with the white." It made far more sense in his head then it was making out loud sadly....

Rebecca took the cup with a nod of thanks, taking a careful sip to taste. Mmm, wonderful! She could see the comparison he was making. "I see what you mean," The redhead said with a nod. "But it does taste wonderful. Once again you have proven to be a master." Was there anything the gentleman couldn't do, or do without showing expert skills?
They spent a few more hours exchangign small talk on a matter of subjects, but before long they had things that had to be done. The contractors were starting to show up and Rebecca didn't want to risk having to deal with a lecture from her two bit tutor.
After giving her a ride back to her apartment, Perdu wished her a fond fair well and headed back home to pick up the blood sample. He needed to make sure it wasn't contaminated or degraded beyond use....
