Hi Underground:

All is quiet on the SPNU front, at least for the past two weeks. Not much going in the way of new episodes--we get that treat next Thursday--but we're still thinking about the boys even when they're in reruns.

That being said, take a peek at TV Guide.com, where Matt Mitovitch has a frontpage video up with some Supernatural scoop (spoiler alerts). If you get the moment, visit Matt's column, the Today's News segment, and email Matt a thank you for covering Supernatural. He manages to mention the boys and the show quite a lot, and it would probably be a good week to let him know your web visitors, as well as you, appreciate it.

We're not a 'spamming' campaign, so PLEASE--make sure to tell anyone who wants to write a letter to do so in a professional manner. Capitalize your sentences, make sure you use complete sentences, punctuation, etc. If you have to pick a representative to write on behalf of your website, please do so. Don't have 400 people flood his inbox with the same letter--he won't appreciate it, even with good intentions. Instead, give him meat to work with--let him know why you love the show, why you appreciate the coverage, why his coverage is so important.

As always, if you have anything to report, please let us know! With the writer's strike on media blackout, and all quite on the television front, it's quiet here too, but it doesn't have to be! If you have good ideas for promotions throughout December, please let us know.

Thanks!

Erika

Hi Underground!

Happy Holidays! I hope you all enjoyed the Holiday-themed episode last night! Life is going to be slow for SPN for the next few weeks, but I hope you'll continue to discuss Supernatural, and keep us updated with events going on at your sites, journals and myspaces.

The people at Titan, publishers of Supernatural Magazine, have been great to the Underground, and they're now offering a special subscription deal for those who want the Supernatural Magazine for the holidays! Attached are some free gifts they'll be sending with their offer--feel free to spread this information around for some last minute gift ideas.

http://www.titanmagazines.com/app
http://www.titanmagazines.com/app?service=...roduct&sp=l1079

And speaking of gifts, I apologize to the folks at JAF for not getting this out sooner--but you have a chance to contribute to Jensen's special holiday card with your own creative prowess!
Log onto the forms at Jensen Ackles Fans.com--located HERE--to find out details.

You have until December 16th, so hurry over now!

http://www.jensenacklesfans.com/
http://loyalfans.net/j-forum/viewtopic.php?t=1318

Finally-- WE ARE IN NEED OF SERIOUS IDEAS. SERIOUSLY.

As we draw closer to the midseason pickup, and the possibility of Supernatural going on hiatus due to the Writer's Strike, we are in serious need of motivating factors to bind our community together and keep Supernatural at the forefront of publicity.

We'd love suggestions as to what we can do to help promote the show. Mind that campaigns and such will have to be things that can be done for a rather inexpensive cost--but I'm sure, with our network being so creative, there are a ton of things you can think of that will promote effectively.

Start sending us ideas now--anything you think might work. The more ideas, the merrier. We need some inspiration right now, and there is no better place to look than the hundreds of you devoted to promoting this great show.

Happy Holidays!

Erika

Hi Underground!

Happy 2008! It's been a very busy few weeks--but we're glad to be back, promoting Supernatural!

On that note--at this point, and to get to business, most people know that the CW has release a presser announcing its schedule for post-strike airing. And, as many of you know, Supernatural has been preempted by the series "Reaper". I'm sure many of you are worried that this might be a first step towards cancellation.

We're here to tell you: DON'T PANIC!

News from some of our Underground members is that the CW has not announced any intention of canceling Supernatural or removing it from the Fall lineup. The CW initial response has been that it is seeking the Thursday at 9 PM timeslot to help promote and save "Reaper", which did not have a strong Fall in the ratings. While we do note that removing SPN from the schedule could have an impact, more than likely this move is to utilize the Thursday night time slot--the most sought after and difficult timeslot in the US's weekly TV schedule--to the best advantage of original CW programming.

HOWEVER...

That does not mean that we are going to sit back on our hands and wait for news. We still want to let CW know that we, the Supernatural fans, are eager to see our show, and that we fully support it.

But, getting worked up and jumping the gun on a 'save our show' campaign may not work to our best advantage. As fans, we need to sit back and think things through--and make sure we're approaching this carefully and professionally, so that we can have the most impact and remain unified through this time period.

So the Underground has two ideas we'd like you please spread around the fandom as a way to keep the fanbase united, but also continue to show the CW our support of our show. Hopefully, these two options will get the point across that we are here, eager to keep our show on the air.

1) Contact the CW's comment line:

Many of you may not know the CW has a comment line--a line where you can leave a message about CW programming. Your messages are typed up and distributed to the appropriate CW personnel. This is one VERY ADVANTAGEOUS AND EASY way of letting the CW know you support Supernatural.

The phone line is NOT TOLL FREE--there is a long distance charge if you don't have free long distance. The number is here:

818-977-6878.

Please, leave a message explaining why you love Supernatural. Not just that you love it, but the reasons why--writing, directing, acting, special effects--these are all things you may want to consider when leaving your voicemail. Your message will have much more of an impact if you show the CW that Supernatural means more to you than just pretty faces on the screen.

You are also welcome to email the CW at their feedback address: feedback@cwtv.com

AS ALWAYS, THE UNDERGROUND DOES NOT ADVOCATE EMAIL SPAMMING. Please don't let us hear the feedback box has been peppered with meaningless emails. Write a thorough email explaining your love for the show. Overstocking someone's inbox with the same one-line message 500 times does nothing to prove we are an intelligent, sensitive fanbase.

2) JOIN OUR 'BACK IN BLACK' MUSCLE CAR CAMPAIGN!! (PICTURES ONLY!!)

To help celebrate the return of Supernatural--and to show our support--we're advocating a campaign where you WRITE the CW a letter talking about your love for Supernatural.

Along with your letter, send a PICTURE of a classic car or a muscle car--not just the '68 Impala, but any classic car you fancy. Be it a '66 Mustang, a GTO, a 70's Malibu, Jag or Barracuda, a 50's T-Bird--anything you think is cool. Clip the picture from a magazine, print one off the 'net, take a photo, buy a postcard, or draw it by hand--just include it in your envelope.

You are welcome to write a catchy line from a Classic song on your car pictures--"Back in Black" is our favorite, but choose anything you'd like (just keep it tasteful).

Hopefully, our efforts will show the CW that we are unified in our support of Supernatural.

PLEASE NOTE: WE ARE NOT ADVOCATING THE SHIPMENT OF ANY 'REAL' NOVELTY ITEMS OF ANY KIND. THIS IS A PAPER CAMPAIGN ONLY.

Our point is to appear united and professional. Please respect the CW as a place of business and a network. Any Underground members found to be sending anything other than paper pictures under the name of the SPNU "Back in Black" campaign will be immediately removed from the Underground mailing and member lists.

You can send your letter and picture to the CW offices. You can address them to Dawn Ostroff, but they will reach the CW network either way.

The CW

3300 West Olive Ave
Burbank, CA 91505

AND...we'd love to see your pictures! If you take any creative pictures, or draw your favorite muscle car, share it with the Underground! We'll post it up when we put up our "Back in Black" website a little later on.

And now for an update:

OPERATION: WINCHESTER

In November, we announced the beginning of the <a href=" http://www.operationwinchester.com">Operation: Winchester</a> Phase Two project. In Phase Two, we teamed with <a href=" http://siprojecthomefront.org/">Staten Island Project Homefront</a>, which ships care packages to troops overseas. We had hoped to send half a dozen or so copies of Supernatural Season 1 DVD sets to Project Homefront to be included with their packages, and asked fans for donations to help make that happen. Supernatural fans then surpassed our wildest dreams by donating enough to buy <i>twenty-four</i> DVD sets! Many, many thanks to everyone who donated -- clearly, SPN fans <i>rock.</i> smile.gif

The DVDs were bought (from no fewer than eight different places, since nearly every online store had a purchase limit of three sets, and some of <i>those</i> were on back-order) and sent to Project Homefront. Then, <lj user="potthead"> and her contact at Harper-Collins arranged for a box of Supernatural books (nine each of <i>Nevermore</i>, <i>Witch's Canyon</i> and <i>The Supernatural Book of Monsters, Spirits, Demons and Ghouls</i>) to be sent to Project Homefront on our behalf. Many thanks to <lj user="potthead"> for all of her help -- I'm sure the troops will enjoy those books!

The folks at Project Homefront spent Jan. 3 packing the boxes for this month's shipment. Jack Semich, the Project Homefront Executive Director, was kind enough to take pictures of the DVD sets ready to be packed. <lj-cut text="Pictures behind the cut.">

<img src="http://pics.livejournal.com/hanncoll/pic/0000tqb5" alt="title or description" />

<img src=" http://pics.livejournal.com/hanncoll/pic/0000sa5w" alt="title or description" />

I think the yellow packets are phone cards that allow troops to call home.
<img src=" http://pics.livejournal.com/hanncoll/pic/0000ra2x" alt="title or description" />

<img src="http://pics.livejournal.com/hanncoll/pic/0000qzyf " alt="title or description" />

<img src="http://pics.livejournal.com/hanncoll/pic/0000p4q1" alt="title or description" />
</lj-cut>

The packages have been mailed and are on their way to the troops right now. Again, thank you so much to everyone who helped make this possible. smile.gif

Now, we want to thank Project Homefront for all of their help by making a donation to help defray their postage expenses. Mr. Semich told me that this shipment alone cost $2700 -- and they ship every six weeks. All of those shipping costs have to be met by contributions. So please, consider making a donation to Operation: Winchester's Paypal account so we can help with that. Click the donate button below, or visit the <a href=" http://www.operationwinchester.com">Operation: Winchester website.</a> <BR />

Way to go, OP: Winchester! You can log onto the Operation: Winchester site to find out more on how to continue to donate to our troops.

As always, thanks for being a part of the Underground, and thanks for your support.

Early next week, we'll be updating some things with more ideas, a place to center the "Back in Black" campaign around, and a few Underground notes. Please let us know if you have any information!

Erika

Hello Underground,

Let me first apologize to all those in SPNU to whom I said I'd send an early report--one of the things I was hoping to announce was delayed just a little bit--and will be for a few more days--so I had to put the Report on hold. But, here she is!

Supernatural Magazine, ISSUE 2, OUT NEXT WEEK!: Our very nice contacts at Titan have informed us that Supernatural Magazine's second issue hits newsstands next week. Those of you who got your hands on the first issue know how informative and entertaining it is, and the second issue promises to be just as good. Titan has been good enough to include a number of images and artwork from it for the Underground to share with fans, so please feel free to put them up on your sites to announce the publication!

http://www.titanmagazines.com/app?service=...roduct&sp=l1079

Supernatural Planet--where can you find Supernatural after the CW??: Supernatural Planet has come up with a fantastic idea...they are currently compiling a list of stations that run Supernatural who are not CW affiliates. If you know of a local affiliate that runs Supernatural in syndication, please let us know. SNP will compile a list of stations for everyone (this includes Canada and International as well) that will be airing Reruns should the CW still elect to exclude Supernatural after the new episodes air.

Contact us, or visit Supernatural Planet's website to let them know your channel number.

http://www.supernaturalplanet.com/

DON'T FORGET BACK IN BLACK!!! Our "Back in Black" campaign has met with some good response--and we promise, within a few days we'll have a page where you can get more details about it. We're also going to be updating our forums over the weekend to give you a place to chat about it.

Back in Black basically asks fans to write a letter to the CW supporting Supernatural--giving them your personal reasons why you love the show so much. IN addition to your letter, please send them a picture of a classic muscle car (it can be the Impala, or any classic car you think rocks) perhaps with a line from a favorite classic song. Hopefully this will give the CW a notion of how many fans support the show and want to see it fully marketed and supported by its home network.

As always, if you have anything to report, please let us know!

Thanks!

Erika

Hi Underground!

I'm putting all traditional versions of the Report on hiatus for a week, in order to bring you this fantastic update--namely, one of our own:

http://www.supernaturalunderground.com

We've updated!

Thanks to our webmaster extraordinare, Joya (of joya-designs.net), we've got a new face for the Underground--something that we hope will be very useful as we move forward on promoting and spreading the word to the Underground.

As you can see, the frontpage of our new website is a newspage, which will be updated as people send us information we deem worthy of sharing. From now on, if you have anything you'd like us to promote, email us the information and we'll post it up as soon as we can.

I encourage everyone to check back with us on a day-to-day basis to find out what our fandom is up to. I will still be sending out the weekly Reports, and working on ideas and campaigns for further promoting SPN, but this is a great first step in better connecting our fandom.

I also encourage you to check out the forums, and encourage your own members to check out the forums--if any of our news items peaks your interest, post it up in our forums and use it as a place to discuss.

Our goal, as it has always been, is effective and professional promotion of Supernatural. Let's unite together and do our best to see that is accomplished!

Thanks,

Erika

Hi Underground:

As I know all of you are fully aware, the Writer's Guild Strike is over! What does this mean for Supernatural? According to a recent interview from Eric Kripke (and thanks to those spoiler newshounds at E!Online and TV.guide.com), expect Supernatural to be back in April with anywhere from 4-7 new episodes. One other great piece of news we've heard? CW has been reporting that they 'love' Supernatural. Does this mean we can breathe a sigh of relief about a new season?

No! We still need to keep promoting Supernatural! We'll be hearing about any potential Season 4 developments May at the CW upfronts, so until then, we have to continue to prove our fanbase is strong and won't hear of cancellation.

So get those promotions rolling! We are eager to promote, and are (hopefully) in the beginning stages of a few campaigns we hope will spotlight our favorite shows. We'll remind you of our Back in Black campaign, urging you to write a letter about Supernatural and include a picture of your favorite classic car--if you have pics you'd like to share, send them to us and we'll put them up on our website.

Remember that if any of your sites get mentions in publications, or have campaign ideas, please let us know--we'd love to share them with other websites!

We welcome a partnership with the great site BuddyTV--make sure to check out their Supernatural page!

Happy Valentine's Day to those of you celebrating, and more importantly, happy Supernatural Thursday!

Erika

Hey Underground!

I have some great news for everyone! Last night's mini-cliffhanger episode scored a season high rating last night in preliminary numbers--which is excellent news, considering it's up for renewal, and it had to compete with American Idol AND Lost! To get the whole scoop, check out Michael Ausiello's news blurb at tvguide.com. Maybe CW should consider switching Smallville out instead of SPN?7.gif wink.gif

http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TV...eason/800033979

Two News items to pass along:

Buddy TV has a new Supernatural Contest--great prizes available!

Buddy TV has opened a new contest at their forums--with fantastic prizes available. First place can win a copy of one of the scripts from "In My Time of Dying", signed by Jared and Jensen!--and there are more prizes available.

For details, click the below link to go to the contest home forum at Buddy TV.

http://forums.buddytv.com/weekly-prize-giv...pt-contest.html

Florida Con project (thanks to Meli, Supernaturalsource.org and unexplainedonline for the scoop!)

Meli, in cooperation with Supernaturalsource.org, is going to the SPN con in Orlando in April--and she's wanting some questions for the planned Q&A session there.

If you have ideas for questions you'd like asked and answered, email Meli HERE: rubywinchester@hotmail.com. Be sure to include the Subject "Questions" in your email.

Meli and her friends have also decided to put together a scrapbook for Jared--deadline for submissions are April 1st. If you are interested in participating, please email her.

As always, if you have more for the Underground to pass along, please let us know!

Thanks,

Erika

Hey SPNU!

I know it's been a while--so I apologize!

With the renewal of Supernatural, much of the emotion that drove the creation of the Underground has abated a little bit. It doesn't mean we're not still devoted to the show, but like many of you, we feel like we've gotten a bit of a breather that allows us to enjoy our show without having to worry about it--at least through next year.

I, and I know other members of our Leadership, want to see the Underground continue, but for now, I think the format will change a little bit. We haven't had as much news come our way, save from our friends at Buddy TV, who are always on the ball when it come to covering Supernatural. So I'm looking for volunteers to help us keep the Underground fresh and alive in case we need to move into action to preserve a Season 5.

The weekly Reports will change to newsletters sent out when news is urgent.

However, I am in DESPERATE NEED OF NEWS POSTERS! Our website, www.supernaturalunderground.com, which was revamped a few months ago, now has a front page that can be updated daily. The interface is very simple. If we can get a few news posters to keep everyone updated with news from all angles--actors, the show, gossip, whatnot--it would help keep the Underground functioning in case we need to move into campaign mode again for Season 5.

If you know anyone interested in helping us out, or if you can help, please let us know! We'll try and keep the Underground as a general site for news and updates, and if anything important comes our way, we'll make sure to let our network know.

For now, our last bit of report news are two EXCELLENT interviews of Jared and Jensen done by our friends at Buddy TV. Enjoy:

Thanks!
