This is an excerpt from a journal entry I made not too long ago. It was incredibly late and I wasn't exactly thinking straight, but I felt the need to rant about something.

Hmm, goth is a type of music yes. But, it doesn't just mean that. Goth is;
goth n. 1. A style of rock music that often evokes bleak, lugubrious imagery. 2. A performer or follower of this style of music. Goth n. A member of a Germanic people who invaded the Roman Empire in the early centuries of the Christian era. Goth·ic adj. 1. a. Of or relating to the Goths or their language. b. Germanic; Teutonic. 2. Of or relating to the Middle Ages; medieval. 3. a. Of or relating to an architectural style prevalent in western Europe from the 12th through the 15th century and characterized by pointed arches, rib vaulting, and a developing emphasis on verticality and the impression of height. b.Of or relating to an architectural style derived from medieval Gothic. 2. Of or relating to painting, sculpture, or other art forms prevalent in northern Europe from the 12th through the 15th century. 2. often gothic Of or relating to a style of fiction that emphasizes the grotesque, mysterious, and desolate. 3. gothic Barbarous; crude. n. 1. The extinct East Germanic language of the Goths. 2. Gothic art or architecture. 3. often gothic Printing. 4. A novel in a style emphasizing the grotesque, mysterious, and desolate. ~From Dictionary.com Gothic is also considered a subculutre, not exactly having to realte to the music. And, is considered a type of clothing. Sorry if this annoys you. Just stating fact. |

I agree with him. On both things. Those who dress in black and wear face paint, I consider psuedo-goth or punkers, hard rock cravers or whatever the fuck it is ... but yes ... gothism is more about hte music than anything else.

HabibahRamla - I agree with the definations you stated from dictionary.com. However, the 'goth' I was speaking of related to the subculture that sprang from the early punk movements in Europe. That particular goth has nothing to do with a style of dress, though many actual goths prefer a particular type (I.E., black or victorian).
Here is where you and I disagree. Goth is a subculture, but that subculture was based on music, not on style of dress. It relates directly to the music; everything else just falls into place behind it. The only time I've ever heard 'goth' being used to describe a style of clothing were either made by young, angst ridden Slipknot kiddies or people that didn't know how else to describe dark clothing preferances. I'm not sure if goth is an actual style of clothing, so I won't really take a stand on that. -------------------- Who is more dangerous - he who has everything to gain, or he who has nothing to lose?

I agree with you on the love, completely...makes me wonder if you've been in a Psychology class lately
*is a big person on Psych* The first stage of ANY relationship is what is called "puppy love" it's what many do mistake for actual love. It usually goes away after...a few weeks or a few months. True love is yes the bond..but that bond does take some foundation in the puppy love stage. Love is how you deal with the obsticles and work through them, it is the communication and the understanding. True love is about sacrifice and compromise and give and take. There are many things that can describe what true love is...but it is different for most, but communication and hard work is always present. That old couple stayed together because of a connection shared with them from the time they met, through the good and bad times. They have reached a point where they don't need words to communicate. Anyone who thinks love doesn't take work doesn't know jack. This idea of Soulmates..who knows if it's true or not, but either way you'd still have to work with that. The reason why there is a huge rise in divorce now-a-days is because people are caught up in the glamor and the fast pace of this society. They are ignorant and get married for the wrong reasons. People get married while they are still in the puppy love stage or when they have moved from puppy love to in the clouds where the feeling is slowly wearing off. Another reason is because no one wants to work hard, they want the easy road so they cheat, lie, and divorce. They say they work hard but they aren't trying much..divorce is just too easy to do. Why take the hard road when divorce is so much easier *sarcastic voice* Marriage and love ISN'T for lazy people lol. -------------------- Life is all about perception.
