With her bag slung slightly over her shoulder and her shoes clacking softly against the floor that she was walking over, Dannah made her way quickly from her dorm room to the library. It wasn’t that she was late, in fact she had actually left earlier than she had planned just because she was sick of waiting for the time to come, she just naturally walked fairly quickly. She attributed it to her running and her need to go, go, go all the time. She just liked to get things done, and if walking a little bit faster than everyone else even just made her feel slightly more successful and like she had a better use of time management then she would walk as quickly as she had to to be able to reap those benefits. She opened the large door to the library and allowed it to close behind her before walking to a table nearby, she didn’t want Azrael to have an issue finding her whenever he arrived.
As she glanced around the library it was fairly empty and she had to admit that she was curious to see how this partnership was going to go. Truthfully she didn’t know much about Azrael at all besides the fact that he had a twin brother and thus she had no idea what to expect. Usually she absolutely hated whenever teachers assigned a project with random partners because she felt like she was always doing the majority of the work and she just hoped that that wasn’t going to happen once again in this situation, Dannah hated being used, it was one of the things that made her the most mad in the entire world, but whenever it was her grade on the line there was no way that she was going to screw herself over too just to teach somebody a lesson, it just wasn’t worth it. This time though, she was looking a bit forward to this entire situation. She didn’t know much about Azrael but for some reason or another he interested her, she really wasn’t sure why. Dannah had witnessed him on numerous occasions before just sitting alone and mostly just avoiding people and to put it frankly she wanted to figure out why. Was he an ass? Was he awkward? Was he just a disaster to be around? She wasn’t sure but she really wanted to know. Yes, she had heard the saying “curiosity killed the cat” multiple times and yet she just couldn’t help it. She wanted to figure out what made him tick, what made him act the way he did. Maybe it was just out of boredom that she was so curious but that didn’t matter. Once she set a target she wouldn’t stop at anything to figure them out. Whether or not Azrael liked it, she was going to do her best to figure him out and possibly even attempt to befriend him in the process. Now she just had to wait for him to arrive so they could start working on their school project and she could start working on her project of figuring the boy out.

Azrael absolutely despised any kind of group project, because he much preferred to work alone. He considered himself capable enough to finish any project that was thrown at him, including those that teachers always said required more than one person. The last time that Az had been at the library working on a project with a partner that a teacher assigned, he'd ended up with Ash, so he wasn't exactly optimistic about who he was going to end up with.
The project itself was stupid - it wasn't anything that he couldn't have done on his own. They were meant to be putting together something related to the book that they had recently read in English class. Dannah was his partner. He didn't know much about the girl, other than her name. However, he supposed that it couldn't be worse than the time that he and Ash had been forced to work together.
When he got to the library, he noticed that Dannah was already there. He walked over to the table that she had chosen and slid into the seat opposite her. "So, I was thinking that it might be a good idea if we just work on the project separately." However, as soon as he said the words, he could feel curiosity coming from Dannah. What about, he had no idea.
"Though I guess we could work together if you want." He supposed that it would be interesting to figure out why she seemed so curious, even though he was going to have to feign being interested in a partner project which was something that he never really enjoyed.
He supposed that he might have enjoyed such a project if he had been working with Ella or his brother (Ella because she was hardworking, and his brother because he wouldn't have to worry about having to work with a partner). It was hard to be around other people, just because he was constantly afraid of using his powers on other people and having them become aware as a result, because he knew that once they did, they would probably hate him.

If there was one thing that Dannah wished she was good at it was doodling, okay, that was probably a lie since there were a million other probably more useful skills but she still wished she could doodle anyways. It would be useful at times like these, times where she had nothing else to do but sit and wait. She knew that it was her fault, she had knowingly left early from her dormitory and all, but she still hated sitting around and waiting, she always felt like she had a million other things that she could have been doing. At least if she could doodle she could at least convince herself that she was spending her time being artistic or something along those lines. Instead as she sat and waited there she just drummed her pencil silently against her notebook paper. Not in an annoyed agitated way but more in a “I’m so bored out of my mind and have no other options of things to do” way instead. Thankfully she didn’t have to wait long at all (compared to what she had been expecting) until Azrael arrived.
Almost before he sat down he suggested that they work on the project separately but before Dannah could even get a word in he changed his tone and suggested that if she wanted that he supposed they could work together. She was a little confused by such a sudden change in his suggestion but she figured that she might as well go with it, after all the decision could always be changed if it didn’t work out. “It’d probably be easier to work together on,” she replied, “Although if I’m too awful to work with you can always branch off and work by yourself later,” she added in an attempt to even just slightly break the awkwardness of this first meeting. If there was one thing that she dreaded when meeting people it was the first few minutes where neither knew what to talk about, at least this time it wouldn’t be so bad because they had the project to work on.. Or at least it shouldn’t have been, knowing her luck somehow this would be the one time that she was unable to break through to a person. If that was the case, she was going to be in for a seemingly never ending afternoon in the library, lucky her. “So did you have any ideas about what to do for the project?” she asked, trying to make sure that there were no awkward silences that fell between the two. Usually she was good with brainstorming up things ahead of time but during the past few days she had been so swamped that she just really hadn’t had time at all.

Dannah certainly was already showing herself to be more persistent than most people that he had been partnered with on various projects throughout the year, which he supposed was a point in her favor. Albeit in a different way. Ash had been assigned as his lab partner in Chem and he had been persistent until Az's will had wavered and they had done things that he regretted. It had been fun, but he supposed that the reason that he did regret it somewhat was Ash had something to hang over his head if he felt like it, and with Ash, it wasn't easy to predict what he would do.
There was something that was nagging at his mind that was more pressing than the project that they were meant to put together for their literature class on Hamlet. He wasn't quite sure what they could do together as a project, as all of his ideas involved him writing an essay by himself. Regardless of what they would choose for their final project, he was more interested in knowing exactly why Dannah was being so persistent. Persistent meaning that she was actually asking for his opinion as opposed to just agreeing that they could work on the project separately.
"I was just wondering why you're even trying with this. And by this I mean the whole partner thing," he said suddenly, not caring that she had asked something completely unrelated to what he was thinking about and might have been waiting for an answer. Or that he had suggested that they work separately and then amended his statement. Maybe it was all the stress from the stuff that was going on with the a-team, but it was making it much harder to think straight and focus on schoolwork, which was very bad. He knew why he was involved with the a-team, but if he could go back in time and change things, he'd try harder to persuade Icarus against joining.

At Azrael’s question, Dannah’s eyebrows knitted slightly in confusion because she truly was just stumped how to answer. She knew partially why she was trying with this, the boy intrigued her, but it wasn’t like she could really just provide that for her reasoning. She knew that other reasons were apparent too, it wasn’t just her curiosity making her so persistent, it was just having to identify those reasons quickly and relay them that was the tricky part. “You mean why I think we should work together instead of just breaking off?” she asked as if in clarification although it was mostly just to buy herself a bit of time to come up with a better explanation. She paused before continuing, “I guess just cause the project’s supposed to be done with a partner so I think we should do it that way?” her explanation came out more as a question than an actual concrete explanation, “Honestly, I don’t really know,” she admitted before turning the question back to him so that he was on the hot seat, “Why are you so against the partner thing and why are you so surprised that I would want to work together?” she asked as she tilted her head to the side slightly in curiosity.
That was almost always her go to move whenever she was in a situation that she didn’t know how to process or respond to. Turn the question back on them, turn the attention back on them, question as to why they would be asking those tough questions. More often than not, the situation of having their questions shot back at them in a different way would usually be enough to either distract them momentarily to think of a better excuse or just get them to drop the subject entirely. Truthfully though, Dannah really was curious as to why he seemed so against and almost like he dreaded with working with someone else on a project. If it was because he feared that she would just use him, she understood that, it had happened to her before, but she was also a big enough bitch at times when it came to that that she would be the one slyly mentioning to the teacher that her partner didn’t do anything so that they would get an awful grade on the project. Of course, she didn’t know if Azrael would have had the guts to do something like that or not. Then again though, maybe that was why he didn’t want to work together, maybe he feared that she would do the same to him no matter if he worked or not.

Perhaps the reason that he was so bothered by the partner work had more to do with the fact that he could feel her curiosity more than anything else. Maybe the reason that it bothered him so much was because recent events within the power structure of the a-team had made him feel more nervous than he ever had before. If he was going to keep out of trouble and keep Icarus safe too, then he was going to have to stop acting so standoffish. The reason that Dannah was curious could have been completely benign. It was unlikely that she would have known anything that would lead back to him and/or his brother.
Dannah did have a point, the project was one that required two people, and if they did parts of the project separately, it would probably be fairly easy for their teacher to figure out that they didn't work together. Even though he had never been reprimanded for such a thing before, he didn't really want to take that chance either. He needed to make sure that every single one of his teachers thought favorably of him, especially when it came time to ask for college recommendations, because even if other students didn't plan on going to college, he knew that he had the grades for it, and it was something that he had wanted for himself ever since he was little.
She wanted to know why he didn't want to work with her, and truthfully, he wasn't sure what sort of answer that he would be able to give her that wouldn't sound bizarre. "Most people just ask me to do the work," he said with a shrug. "It's usually easier." A lot of the people that he had been partnered with in his classes throughout his school years had been lazy and unmotivated, so it was easier to just do the work himself. It sounded believable to him, so hopefully Dannah would believe him.
