Today was a special day. Not that much was really going on, but it was going to be different than the boy’s usual every day. He needed new things to happen anyway. If he could do this or that differently, he would be a rather happy person. Normally he was fine with his typical routines, but everyone needed to change their days every now and then. Instead of just studying or sitting around, why not go to the lake? He looked over at Dannah, since he was still a bit surprised that she had agreed to go with him to the lake. Now he just had to not be too embarrassing in front of her and they would be golden.

It was not like he was typically an embarrassing person. Just lately he had been stressed. With family drama and trouble with some of his classes, the male had been shifting and running in order to relieve his stress. At first it was just a run as a dog in order to keep himself from going insane. Lately that had changed to where he was spending far more time in his other form. People liked dogs, even pitbulls. No one really seemed to mind him in his dog form.

At the lake he was going to have to keep from shifting into a dog and he was going to have to keep from doing some of the more canine habits he seemed to have formed. Meaning he would need to swim like a normal person and not dry off by shaking his whole body. Actually, he had no idea how he would be able to pull of that last bit as a person. He did not have a layer of fur to shake water off. Sure, there would be water, but it would not be that bad at all. He could also always keep from getting his head wet. That seemed to be a normal thing to do.

Grinning at the water, Acacus wanted to get in it. He loved water, he was part siren after all. “Are you ready?” He asked, looking at her. She seemed to be rather happy too. This should not be too bad at all. He was fine with swimming with people. Both of them should be just fine after all. “Ladies first.” He was alright with her going in first. Then he would be able to mimic whatever she did. One way or another, he would look like a normal person. It should be a lot of fun, once they actually started to swim or goof off or whatever she wanted to do.

“At least we have a good day for this.” He added happily. The weather seemed to be the best it had been in awhile. Or at least, that was how Acacus was going to think of it. He was going to stay Mr. Positive today.

Truthfully she was a bit surprised with herself that she had agreed to go with Acacus to the lake, not because she didn’t like him, but because she was usually so driven to spend all of her time working on something or other that she was surprised with herself for actually taking a break for once. She knew that it was well-deserved; logically everybody needed a break once in a while, but that didn’t mean that she had gone with the decision to skive off a few extra hours of studying easily. She had practically forced Acacus to have to convince her and although after asking only once or twice she had mentally decided to go, that hadn’t stopped her from allowing him to ask a few more times before she finally agreed that she would go with him out loud. Some might have said that doing that was childish or immature but to Dannah it was just a bit of entertainment. Besides, she had absolutely no malicious intent behind it so she really didn’t see how it was at all a problem

When he suggested that she go first, she couldn’t help but shoot a knowing look in his direction, “You would make me go first,” she replied, a joking tone in her voice, “I warn you though, if the water’s freezing, I’m going to kill you,” she informed him with a small smirk. Although she was part siren, she was also part fairy and when that came to things like water and fire the usual preferences seemed to cancel each other out. Dannah enjoyed swimming most of the time but she always hated getting into the water initially mostly because she just seemed to be continuously shivering for the first five minutes or so until her body completely adjusted. Knowing that it was best to just get the initial freezing temperatures out of the way though she walked towards the edge of the water before dipping her foot in, thankfully, it wasn’t as cold as she had been expecting. “It’s not as bad as I expected actually,” she told Acacus before slipping off her jean shorts, tank top and entering the water.

Although most girls it seemed hated buying swimsuits and wearing them as well, for Dannah they were one of the few things that she actually felt okay in. It didn’t really make sense because she had some kind of body dysmorphic disorder complex regarding her weight but for some reason she actually felt decent in swimsuits compared to everything else. She was pretty sure it had to deal with the fact that they were truly the only thing that she could buy off the rack that fit her properly. Not only could she buy the tops and bottoms separately in order to get the perfect fit but there was also such a small part of her body to fit that it really wasn’t that difficult to find the proper size. Although she loved her height and she loved being almost six feet tall, it made it quite frustrating when she tried to buy clothes that fit. Guys were lucky and had tall sections, women had petites sections but apparently designers hadn’t realized that some women were taller than 5’5”. It was one of her pet peeves to say the least. “Are you coming or not?” she asked, turning back to where Acacus was. The water was about up to her collarbones now and her long hair was floating around her, probably making her siren side stick out a bit more. She wasn’t ready to get her head wet quite yet, she knew that it would help her to feel more at ease with the water temperature but at the same time she hated having water droplets on her face, another weird pet peeve of hers.

The lake was calming. Any time Acacus was near water like this, he felt a little bit better. And he was not really feeling all that awkward any more. Maybe being around his friend helped or maybe it was the fact that he was getting to spend time away from the school. One way or another, he was feeling about everything. He would be able to shed his shirt when it came time for him to get into the water. It was not like he was usually too caring about his appearance. He liked to look good, but he knew he did not have the abs that other males had. Still everyone had moments when they were worried what the other person would think about them. In short, self concious Acacus was being self concious. But he was going to work past it and just go along with it. If he was lucky they would just have fun in the water and it would be alright.

He laughed as she threatened. It was just sort of amusing. He was just fine with it though. He would be more than fine with figuring all of this. But luckily for him, apparently the water was not all that bad. He was happy to know that. It was easier knowing that the water would be tolerable when it finally came time for him to actually get into it. Speaking of that, he needed to get ready. He stripped off his shirt and pushed off his jeans, since his swimming trunks were on under his jeans. When in doubt, wear layers.

“I’m right behind you.” He said, finally actually getting into the water. So what if it took him a bit to get into the water too? He was part siren, although he usually tried to ignore that part of himself. Neither of his powers really seemed to fit that part of him. Since his family tended to shun the siren part of him, lately he had realized that he was doing it too. So he was going to slowly try to fix that. He was not crazy about the idea of just jumping in and changing everything about his personality or whatever. Right now he was just going to get into the lake and have fun. It should be easy, right? Just keep from thinking about everything and it might be a little bit easier.

He was happily in the water and was more just splashing around than anything else. It was nice to be in the water, though. He was keeping his head about water. It was just something he seemed to have picked up. He hated the idea of ever having his head under the water. “See, I told you that I was right behind you. I’m right here.” And it was right. He was right behind her in the water, although he was going to keep from splashing her or anything like that. He hated getting his head wet, he sort of assumed she might be similar in that aspect. “Thanks for coming out with me. The water is really good.” He liked this.

She wasn’t sure what it was or why she was like that but she could never help herself, she hated having her back turned towards people. It didn’t matter if she was standing up, sitting down, even if she was asleep, she couldn’t have her back turned towards people, she always had to have her eyes open. Even when she was at school it seriously bothered her to have people around her that she couldn’t directly see. Thus, if she was ever stopped in the hallway talking to somebody she had to have her back towards the wall; there was just no way around it. Her mini pet peeve didn’t stop in public either, even at home she was the same way, she just hated having people around her that she couldn’t see, no way around it. Of course when she had turned so abruptly she had managed to splash a bit of water on him by accident, but she was lucky in the fact that it hadn’t hit him in the face, if that had happened she would have actually felt a bit bad. “Sorry,” she apologized quickly, more because of habit than anything else, before she moved into just slightly deeper water where she had to actually tread water to keep her head above the water line.

“Yeah no problem,” she replied with a smile as she floated softly through the smooth surface of the lake. There was no breeze at the moment and the lake was literally still, besides where the two of them were of course. She almost felt guilty for disturbing the picturesque scene, although obviously not guilty enough to actually go through the hassle of getting out of the water. “And I know, the temperature is like perfect after you get used to it,” she agreed now that her body had finally gotten adjusted to being in the water. She was still fighting herself about whether or not she wanted to get her face wet and she still wasn’t sure. She swam the fastest if she was completely under the water but at the same time she wasn’t sure if getting her face wet was worth it. It all depended on what they were going to do, swim or goof around, and she was going to wait for Acacus to make the first move before she did anything. Honestly just goofing around was probably her preference just because it was usually a lot more chill than just swimming or something. As long as she didn’t drown like her brother usually tried to do to her when they were kids they would be fine.
