Title: Need Chou Info

RopeMiko - January 31, 2007 09:37 PM (GMT)
Can anyone give me the specifics about Amano's Chou outfit? It looks like it could be festival apparel (I'm talking about the red and white costume with the geta) but I'm unable to search because I don't know the Japanese word for it (assuming it is traditional Japanese and not something Amano made herself) so if anyone could help I would be very happy..I need the right information for my site's cosplay section.

i seriously doubt it is something traditional.

i can hopefully get you a full breakdown by tomorrow if it is okay. i made the costume, so that helps. :P :Chou:

The top portion resembles the white kimonos that Yae and Sae wear in Fatal frame 2. Also real shrine maidens in Japan wear a white top with a red bottom, but it's not that much like Amano's kimono in chou.

well, one of the reasons why i seriously doubt it is a tradition is that it has a zippper. but that's beside the point. :P

the design does not seem very traditional, either, and neither do the fabrics. i have never seen a traditional kimono that is in two pieces that involves a vertically striped chiffon skirt with another red part over it, and then a top with no obi or anything, edged in brocade, with bell sleeves and the same red material on the sleeves as on the skirt overlay part (will get into more dtail with actual breakdown). :P

it was certainly inspired by traditional kimono, but is not one. as far as i can tell, neither is the red one, as that involves more skirts and such, but i do not have a breakdown handy and have not seen the PV in months. (and rarely pull out my tenryu booklet because the paper shows wear too easily.)

breakdown coming after i do all my homework, reassemble my speech, and cram for super quiz and music, so good luck getting it tonight. XD

Musouka is the expert but I want to help too ^^;;;;; maybe pictures would help... I'm sorry I forgot where I got them from but they are really great Tenryu scans I think I got them from Musouka herself when she posted it with the Winona scans I have so many pictures I can't remember ...
chou outfit 1This is a good picture of the front and Chou Outfit 2 this is a good picture of the pattern under the red fabric the sleave's look like they are made of different material than the red fabric on her skirt I think this outfit maybe is not as complicated as some of her other outfits well I have more pictures if you want them I'll post them. :Chou:
Maybe this can help me too cause I want to also start cosplaying Amano-san's outfits :fukuro:

no, no, the two sheer reds are the same fabric as far as i can tell. you may be getting mixed up with the other red, the strips of patterned fabric on the white overskirt part, with the red sheer over it.

Well, she wears a feudal red prison kimono for half of the pv, and the red and white outfit comes with geta and hair ornaments...the whole pv seems to be heavily influenced by traditional Japanese culture. I know Amano has her own way of mixing traditional and more modern things together (the Same pv, for example) but I'm not thoroughly convinced about this one.

It is definitely NOT a kimono, I know that for sure...If she was supposed to resemble Sae or anything like that, I would think for sure she would be wearing furisode, and the robe would be worn by folding her right half over the left half to signify her death (or in the game's case, her purpose to die). Take a look at in-game photographs and compare the twins' kimono to chitose's kimono. In the pictures, Amano's robe appears to be worn like a normal, living person's robe would be worn.

But I could be wrong. I'm just saying that this is all within the realm of possibility.

i think i clearly said that it has definate influences from traditional wear, but i also said that by no means is it traditional wear.

and yes, she wears her top like a living person would. and it is not a kimono beucase it is a shirt and a skirt.

the red kimono is also not a real kimono, but i do not have a full breakdown on that.

RopeMiko - February 4, 2007 12:50 PM (GMT)
The red kimono is real, prisoners wore this kind of kimono a looong time ago. This has been confirmed by the Japanese exchange student at my school.

Cool what era was the prison? I wish to see more of these Kimonos I've never seen them until I saw Amano-san wearing it.

something makes me want to say the heian era, but i will double check.

something makes me want to say the heian era, but i will double check.

in the heian era the woman used really big Kimono's that are called Kazami's :sharon: like the one Amano-san wears for her Sharon stones album but they use to shave their eyebrows ,paint their face white ,blacken their teeth ,and either arch the eyebrows higher or Put to black thumb prints on their brows >.> Good Thing Amano-san didn't do that I think she would have looked beautiful but then when you take off the make up having no eyebrows can make you look weird. They must have been really heavy because there was usually 12 layers to it or more (I think it went up to like 40 layers) there is even a legend about a court lady drowning trying to save a child ,because all her clothes weighed her down. I love reading about the fashions of the heian era but I've never seen :Chou: the Chou outfit of Amano-san >.> I'm still looking I want pictures, I love her Outfit. I know the thing she is wearing on her hair is a Kanzashi ,and her hairstyle is kind of Heian era.
