[Haley Walker]

Haley ran onto the softball field kicking dust up under foot. Softball practice right now just happened to be one of those things she didn't want to have to deal with.. but was anyway. She loved softball but today was not one of her better days.

"Walker how many times do I have to tell you today glove down."

"Right coach sorry..."

:Honestly if you didn't have me there wouldn't even be need for a softball team. Star short stop number four hitter... and I get yelled at for not putting my glove down ONCE.:

[Addyson Letterman]

.: Ohh first day of practice. Always a joy. Especially at a new school. :.

*Addy grabbed her glove and headed to the field taking her usual spot at third after warming up some. Coach had already known she'd be late. She was a little nervous, for once in her life. It was odd to think that she of all people would ever be nervous.*

"Psh, don't bother apologizing to him. It was one mistake, it happens." she smiled to the girl at shortstop on her left.

Haley caught Addyson out of the corner of her eye and smirked muttering under her breath to her.

"He's a jackass alright.

It was at that moment Coach decided to send a ball ripping up the middle right over second base. And who was he going to yell at again about this?

"Walker cover the hole. Get your head in it today or you'll be sitting.

To this Haley just couldn't take. A ball... right up the middle.... not just a little roller either a liner.. and she was being yelled at. For godsakes the second basemen was just as close as she was and she was over there chatting up the 1st basemen like they were old pals.... and Haley was getting in trouble.

"Coach, you've got to be kidding me with that... It seems to me that Me and the third basemen here who's name I currently don't know maybe that's also a credit to your amazing coaching skills are the only ones paying attention. So it'd be really really great if you got off my ass about a line drive that went up the middle that I couldn't get to."

Well now second basemen and her buddy first over there were paying attention now, along with the outfielders. The coach just shook his head and clenched his teeth together. What was he going to say to that? "You're sitting Walker." Don't think so. She wouldn't sit and he didn't have a shortstop. And besides she'd called him on everything.

[Addyson Letterman]

"Coach? If I may?" Addyson smiled straightening up holding her hand up to get his attention.

"Addyson Letterman." she smiled looking to the rest of the field then returned her attention to the coach standing at home plate.

"I think 'Walker' here, has a point. That last hit would be a VERY hard hit for either of them to get. Walker at least moved on the ball, our 2nd baseman over there was just standing around." She said almost mockingly as she shoulders shrugged.

*She looked to Hayley and smiled. She didn't deserve to sit the bench. Addy's beloved father had gone over all the players and their stats with her on the incredibly long drive to the school. He had gotten ahold of the coach when they decided this would be the school for Addy, and called to talk to him about Addy playing and possibly being his captain. Hayley's stats were amazing, especially for her age.*

"I don't think Walker should be sitting the bench. Your second baseman should be unless she decideds to get her head out of her ass." Addy said as she kicked some dirt around and took her ready position near third.

.: If I'm going to be your captain, you're going to listen to me buddy. Walker will not sit the bench. :. she thought defiantly with her eyes narrowed as the coach stood a little baffled by Addyson's rant.

Haley nodded a thanks to Addyson. Well at least someone cared. She crossed her arms and had a "smart ass" look on her face. She was daring the coach to prove her and Addyson wrong.... a feat which she knew he couldn't. He glared back at the both of them and sighed bringing his head up to his forehead like he had a headache.

"Walker, Letterman you'll both see me in my office after practice. As for the rest of the field you all better pay attention or we're running sprints and going to forfeit our next game since it appears everyone will be sitting."

Haley rolled her eyes and walked back over to shortstop to resume practice. Honestly who was he kidding. If they forfeited their first game of the season he'd surely be fired.... something that wouldn't be that bad but honestly Haley did not want to lose at any expense.

[Addyson Letterman]

*Addyson smiled her usual cocky-you-can't-prove-me-wrong smile. She returned Hayley's nodd and watched coach as he rambled on about seeing him in his office and the team not playing. Now he was just being a whiny little woman. Addy laughed silently to herself and got down for grounder down the line. She flashed some leather and quickly pulled the ball up and sent a liner to the first baseman hard. She looked back to coach, eye brows raised with another cocky smile. She looked to Hayley waiting for the same thing to happen again. Of course, it did. During a jog requested by coach Addy caught up with Hayley.*

"Hey, at least he wasn't a total ass the rest of practice." she smiled as she jogged along.

"Addyson Letterman, as you already know. But you can call me Addy." she smiled a wide friendly smile again.

*So she wasn't all rebel-rocker all the time. She had soft spots too. Or rather, defiant spots? She wasn't just going to take the back seat and let some poor freshman be benched when she was worthy of playing.*

The rest of practice flew by pretty well with out much eventfulness. The team would scowl every once in a while at Haley and Addyson... which of course didn't go unreturned and they all hushed up about it. And it was true coach didn't say anymore to the two but he sure as hell tried to hit everything harder at them. The next time he tried to hit something up the middle Haley dove got up quickly and fired it to first. That stopped that. So he made them all run... ha he thought he was just sooo clever.... well soccer players run a lot as is so it was impossible to phase Haley. As Addyson caught up to Haley she smiled and laughed as coach watched them with a leery eye. She shook her head and turned to Addyson.

"No, you're right he wasn't outwardly an asshole but everything he tried to do with us was always ten times harder.... But if he thought I would break a sweat from it he has another thing coming".

Haley didn't mind this girl too much. True to form she was a very good athlete and pretty much made all the other senior "talent" look like they should be playing tee ball.

"Haley Walker. Most people call me Hawk for short...."

Haley noted the eyebrow raise of confusion as she mentioned her nickname and she laughed flashing a smile.

"Come to a soccer game you'll see why.

[Addyson Letterman]

*Addy laughed, yea coach was still being an asshole, just not saying anything. But hey, they didn't let anything get past them. Not even the drive up the middle for Hayley that Addy was suprised she got.*

"I guess I'll have to." she smiled.

*She continued to jog along side Hayley, she was a young outspoken spit fire to say the least. Addy liked it. She was easy to get along with, so far.*

"Ready for this big talk with coach?" she asked with raised eyebrows as they neared the dugout.

*Addy smiled as coach eyed them in the huddle. He couldn't wait to scream at them for one reason or another. He had no reason though. He'd probably make up some lame excuse, like...Addy's green highlights weren't acceptable and Hayley's attitude for a freshman wasn't either. She laughed to herself shaking her head. As the huddle ended Addy made sure to find Hayley again. Just as she was about to say something else to Hayley she heard him.*

"Letterman, Walker! In my office, NOW." he said his voice showing all his stress and annoyance with the two.

*The rest of the team snickered as they gathered their belongings and talked about Hayley and Addy as they made their way to coach's office.*

"Here goes nothing." Addy whispered as she opened the door for Hayley.

Haley glared at the rest of the team as her and Addy were called to coach's office. If they wanted to say something about it then they could be dealt with later for all she cared. Honestly what happened to team bonding or actually caring about a sport? Addy opened the door to coach's office and Haley rolled her eyes at her laughing and entering pulling a straight face as if she hadn't actually just laughed five seconds ago. Coach gestured for both of them to sit and she did her arms folded across her chest.

"So coach should I turn my uniform in now or later?"

"Zip it Walker. What exactly do you two think you are trying to pull? Hmm...? Well I won't have you trying to openly defy me in front of the other girls do you understand me? I will call Texas and retract my letter of recommendation"

Haley rolled her eyes and sat back in her chair a smirk playing across her face.

"What you find it funny? Listen up the both of you. No more little out bursts in practice like the one today or you're off the team indefinitely. Do you understand me?"

"Sure 'coach' sure. Make sure that the next time you yell at me you have a good reason for it. Because the way I see things until you start hitting gap-ers out to right and left center and yell at our outfielders to get to it, I don't want you yelling at me for a ball hit up the middle."

Haley sat back in the chair her eyebrows raised staring at coach. She had nothing more to say and waited for Addy to add whatever was on her mind. As a captain and co-captain coach should really really consider listening to them a little more.

[Addyson Letterman]

"Walker, you won't be turning in that uniform." Addy interrupted angrily staring coach down.

*Addy shut up and listened intently to what Hayley had to say the rest of the time.. Coach was just being a whiny little baby about everything. She could really careless what he had to say. Did he forget she was his new cpatain? Despite the fact she was a transfer, she was the best senior he had.*

"Coach, as captain of your team, I believe I can step in when I feel stepping in needs to take place. IF that happens to be on the first day of practice, defending someone you're opnely harassing, then so be it. I do not see anything wrong with what happened today." she smiled innocently.

*Coach's face turned red as his anger boiled over.*

"NOTHING WRONG WITH WHAT HAPPENED TODAY!? You're just lucky no one from the administration was out there to watch practice, or any of your scouts, or scouts from other area schools. You two made me look like the laughing stock of all coaches!"

*Addy leaned in with a defiant smile on her face*

"Then coach, stop giving Walker here a hard time. She's the best you've got and you cut her, the team's nothing."

*With that Addy leaned back and crossed her arms waiting for coach to threaten suspension, being cut from the team, calling her father, etc, etc... She was prepared for it all. He wanted to worry about how he looked as a coach, she'd worry about who was playing on her team. She would be damed if Hayley Walker would be cut from this team.*

Haley watched a look of satisfaction across her face. Defying the coach was proving to be quite fun and very very easy. She laughed shaking her head and standing up.

"Game. Set. Match. I don't see any reason for this to happen again as long as you lay off of me."

It was very clear that Coach wasn't quite done with them. He may have had a few choice words for the two but what was he going to do??? Cut them both.... and have college scouts and unruly parents breathing down his neck because he had cut the two for defending themselves?? Well he did have one or two tricks up his sleeve.

"Walker. Lettermen. I will be calling your parents about this. And I WILL be watching you both."

Veins were popping out of his forehead and neck as he was becoming increasingly more enraged but Haley didn't give a fuck. She saluted him like a smart ass and followed Addy out the door slamming it behind them. As soon as they were out the door she burst out laughing.

"Did you see his face? He didn't know what just hit him." Haley mocked his tone as she spoke. "Lettermen. Walker. I'm a stupid bitch and I deserve to get pwn'd as bad as I did. Hahaha. Wow.

[Addyson Letterman]

"Be my guest! I bet I'll get to Daddy first!" Addy called behind her as she and Haley left the office with a bang.

*The second the door closed, Addy doubled over laughing with Haley. She laughed even harder at Haley's immitation of coach sitting behind his desk bitching like a whiny woman. She managed to breath again and pulled out her cell phone.*

"He doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground. I'm not sure his suitable as a coach. He looks good on paper but damn, on the field, he just sucks." she said still smiling.

*She decided to text her dad instead of giving him a call. He was expecting her to still be in practice so she decided a text would be ideal. Plus then she wouldn't have to LISTEN to his bitching at her. Though as long as she explained the entire situation, she was pretty sure Daddy wasn't going to bitch her out for this. He trusted her when it came to softball. After all, he was the one who taught her the game. She knew every in, out, nook and cranny, there was to know. Even if she did prefer music over softball.*

"So, what're you up to now?" she asked Haley with a smile as she finished and sent her text.

Haley shook her head still laughing as Addyson called her father. Screw Haley calling her own parents.... they wouldn't really care as long as she explained to them later. And for posterities sake it was always better if her parents acted like they were actually going to punish her for coach's sake.... even if she did hate his ass at the moment.

"No you're right he's about as suitable as.... a priest. Hahaha."

Oh it was too funny really, who did coach honestly think he was..... there were schools all over the nation begging for the Haley Walker's and Addyson Letterman's of the world. And here he was with one of each and he was complaining and trying to make shit out of them. Well he could go and fuck himself. Haley walked into the locker room pulling her cleats off along with her cut-off ((black tank top on underneath that)). She threw her cleats and cut off into her back pack and slung it over her shoulder waiting for Addyson to get done changing.

"Well I'm thinking about heading home and grabbing something to eat.... maybe watch some tape on our next soccer opponent or... not. But you're welcome to join me if you want."

*Addy laughed. Worst part about it was, she had a priest for a coach before. This was the first non-catholic school she'd been in all her life. She couldn't say that her priest-for-a-coach was much better than this guy though.*

"Oh psh, yeaa! He might as well go become part of the monastary now.." she smiled as she unlaced her spikes.

*Addy pulled some pants over her shorts and changed into some running shoes. Ehh. soccer, she hadn't done since she was 5. Not that she didn't love it and wish she'd stuck with it but... She thought about it for a second and now that Haley mentioned food, she was starving.*

"I.. think I might just have to take you up on that offer." she grinned slinging her back pack over her shoulder.

Haley readjusted that bag over her shoulder and smiled heading towards the door.

"Food and my place it is then."

She opened the door for Addyson and then followed her out making sure to flip off coach's door as they walked by.

"I hope you're not impartial to pasta.... that's basically all I eat. And I really really hope you're a dog person. I have two puppies."

:And let's not forget that you both will have to walk.... Not that it's that far. Ehh I'm sure we'll get over it or take the bus.... and hey seniors have cars...:
