The world is bigger than can be imagined, the expanse of which no one person can claim to come to terms with. Ignorance has, possibly, been both a blessing and a curse. At the fringe of the realized world there has always been magic, not as the fringe of society, however. Practitioners have interwoven themselves in among what is accepted as reality by the population. It has been this way throughout history with varying degrees of awareness and continues to this day, some staying secret due to the memories of the past, others for what they have to gain.
Doubtingly at first, begrudgingly even, evidence of the existence of such things became accepted again by a select few in the British government with access to the evidence that had been compiled. With this acceptance came the decision to create an organization to be their eyes and ears, gathering information on the nature of what they do not know is out there. This is the Veritas Institute, created in 1980 that has taken root in the UK as well as Canada and Australia, spreading it to monitor more corners of the world on commonwealth land.
Since it's establishment, reestablishment in actuality as among the evidence the government officials were privy to included files of an organization of the same name with a less non-violent approach as today's Institute, the three offices have operated in relative secret. The name may seem familiar but details are not released. If too many questions are asked about it the asker is definitely suspect. The three headquarters have operated together in a myriad of ways; ambassadors to the Fae, researchers into magic, peacekeepers between vampires and werewolves with the ignorant public, and police force for hunters aware of what is out there. They are only now realizing that all of this goes much deeper into their own lives than they are ready to accept. The Monks have a long history and a thirst for power. This has always been and the magic may want control.
