メランコリック (Melancholic)

This is a song that I had been meaning to get around to translating for a while, then sort of forgot about. =P

(Oh, and I would have replied to one of the other help threads by now, except they are pretty much been handled by the time I see them Lol)

So, there might be a few parts that people question, but the parts that I specifically wonder about are bolded:

So, ok, explanation. The problem for me is that, even though these lines are the same, I have the feeling they mean different things when translated into English. The difference being the line that immediately follows each bolded part.

In the first two, 奪われる and in the third 奪おうとしてたのはわたしのほうだもん
So, in the last part, it is Rin doing the stealing. But, in the first and second part, it is not. If that is true, then in the third part Rin cannot be the one that does not know in the second line - that does not make sense. It must be You who does not know. And if it is You who does not know, it would be odd if You cannot grasp Yourself, so maybe that is Rin not grasping You in the first line.

I realize that this is entirely a problem as a result of translating into English - it makes sense to me in Japanese, but I cannot find the right feeling for it in English.

Any help would be appreciated!

Ahhh love this song. Didn't really like Rin's voice before but this song is pretty much the one that changed my mind. ^^

For the bolded verses, this is what I did in my translation, I have no idea if it's right but it's a different perspective, I guess:

I can’t grasp you at all
That my heart could be taken away
While I didn’t notice at all
There’s no way that could happen

[...]

I can’t grasp you at all
The one who was trying to lose her heart
While she didn’t notice at all
Was me after all

I took the first line to stand on its own but I'm completely willing to believe that it goes with the later ones, I wasn't quite sure myself.

Also for this line:

素直じゃないの　だって

Mostly based on how it was sung, I took the だって to be going with the following verse.

Ah~ I usually check to see if there is already a translation up so that we do not just post the same thing as someone else, but I did not check this time. >.<

Hmm, interesting points. I will have to think about this one more. Not sure why it presented so much difficulty to me the other day.

And, yeah, with the だって - I did not even hear that until I looked at the lyrics. =P

Grammatically, 全然つかめないきみのこと is an inversion.
The normal word order is (私/は/)きみ/の/こと（/を)全然/つかめ/ない。
The subject 私は and the objective particle を are omitted.

The following sentences are what just you translated.

I actually think it's good to have multiple perspectives on a song. Plus, I'll often translate songs that I know somebody else has already done, just for practice, or as a way of showing my love.
