Marco was absent from the public life for longer than he expected. The venom, which Peruvian Vipertooth injected in his blood caused damage, that even his body couldn’t repair immediately. Right after he was taken to the hospital, his mother showed up in there and took him home, in order to prevent compromising their disguise.
He didn’t have any strength to write. He just lied in a completely dark room, drunk a lot of blood, not going anywhere. After weeks his blood cleared up and he was able to go out of bed. Now, he was still more vulnerable to sunlight and needed a walking stick, but he was still alive.
The time he spent alone Marco spared on thinking. He told his new friends, people who were on this terrible trip with him, that he was a vampire. They accepted it quite well and this young boy, William, told him something that he – at first – didn’t notice, but later started to think over. “If you truly did desire to harm one of us, you would have done so long before this moment.” This statement, wise one in mouth of human, was very important for Marco. It forced him to think about Scarlett, who he deceived for such a long time. The man had heard that she moved to Wellingtonshire, to the estate of her family. It was good thing, she deserved it.
Finally, Marco found the right door, after a long time strolling down the streets of Wellingtonshire. Her new home was beautiful, he could say it even from the street level. He stood there, looking at the windows of her home, while the darkness fell over. He could hear the crickets’ play when he decided that it was the right time to go and knock to the door. He did it and waited for someone to open.

Ever since getting back from the trail, Scarlett had a lot to do. There was a big amount of paper work to take care of and since she did not trust the mediators (even, or especially, Mr de Havilland). They wanted her money and if she allowed them to, they would drain her until the last knut, just because she was a woman. The world was cruel to women – the fairer sex was supposed to be wives, lovers, but not business partners. Scarlett liked the freedom being lower class gave her, the fact nobody took an interest to her, nobody watched her every move.
That changed with her getting back the money, estate and her social status. It was a difficult transition, once again, but she had Marco on her side and that made her feel better. However, ever since the trail or even before, she wasn't quite sure, they had not spoken and it worried the young woman. She was in love with that young man, no matter how hard she tried to deny it. It just didn't want to go away. Those feelings never just faded away. So the only choice she had was to confront Mr Carter as to why was he seemingly avoiding her. She missed his presence.
When the servant came to tell her that a young gentleman came to see her, she was surprised. It was late already and she was in her office, dressed in her dressing gown. Scarlett sat there, in a dark room in which the dim flames of the three candles were the only source of light. Who could come to visit her so late? From what the servant had told her, he looked like he was in a hurry, so Scar decided not to keep him waiting. She took out the spare pair of lace gloves she had in her desk drawer, and then told the servant to invite the guest to the sitting room, where she quickly made her way after making sure the robe is tied tightly enough.
So she went down, dressed in a dressing robe, gloves and with her hair up loosely falling on her shoulders as she did not want to waste the time on putting them up. She did not know who to expect, but when she saw Marcus, the fan she held in her hand fell on the floor. Poor thing, he looked so bad... Her first instinct was to sit by him and kiss him, but she remained calm and collected and only said:
“Hello, Marco. What brings you here at such late hour?” Her voice was not as strong as she wished it was, but it could have been worse.
