It was to be a long day; in addition to participating in the duels at one end of the street, Nikolai had volunteered to moderate the student matches on the other, which would see the wizard apparating back and forth as the need arose. Luckily, his schedule with one had been worked around by the other, and so the Russian was not too concerned. Besides, he was eager to see the performance of the children he had taught defense against the dark arts, as these duels would exhibit how much they had learned.
“The rules rules are simple enough,” Nik offered lazily, “and no doubt you will both adhere to them. Miss Filch may begin.” Though the professor would never have seen his own daughter perform as a man in duels, he did wish that girls might perform a little more...actively in such exhibitions.

Rommy was confident enough in her skills. She had finished her first year at Hogwarts and she could be concidered one of the best student in their Transfiguration class. Which was the reason Rommy was going to use mostly transfiguration, since it would give her a better chance of victory.
She pointed at one of the vases in the ballroom. If eveyrthing worked right it would turn into a rabbit.

Timothy had not fared so well in the first duelling tournament, but he had been up against a second year that time, and it had been a proper duel. Now, he had his whole first year - in which he had struggled, but learnt heaps - under his belt and he was up against Rosamund Filch. He would be casting on a dummy, though, and he didn't know if he could beat a rabbit.
The DADA professor judging was rather daunting, too, for now Tim would have to prove he had actually learnt something in classes all year. Luckily, the practical aspect was always more of a strength. DADA and Charms were fun subjects, but Timothy didn't know that he could perform under pressure. Here went nothing. He inhaled a breath, declared the incantation with a jab of his wand and hoped the dummy would erupt into flickering bluebell flames.

Though Nik was impressed by the redhead’s rabbit, it seemed that the result of her transfiguration lacked much energy. The badger’s efforts, however, were rewarded much more greatly, and made quite a visual spectacle as well as proving a useful combatative spell. The professor had little qualms with his selection of winner. “Mr. Allwright has won the first round, and may open the next.” Rosamund rolled a 4, Timothy a 6

Timothy grinned toothily at his winning of the first round, proud that his bluebell flame charm had worked. But now... he couldn't think of any impressive idea; the only thing that he could rely on to work properly would be disarming or a knockback jinx. But he remembered a spell that carnie kids used to use for pranks all the time - he could recall the incantation and the wand movement... so he thought he would give it a try. He got ready, announced the spell and hoped that the practice dummy would start whirling around uncontrollably, only coming to a rest by falling over. Curse of the Dizzies, they had all called it.

She was supposed to win! She could not lose! Then Declan and Castor would make fun of her! Were they actually participating? Rommy looked at the crowd, trying to spot either Declan's brunette hair or Castor's fair coloured hair. He could not spot neither, so she turned her eyes to her opponent.
He did his spell and then it was her turn.
She had to do something bigger. Not just turn something into a rabbit! She could do something better than that! She turned her wand to the chandelier (they were in ballroom, after all). If everything worked right the chystals would turn into fireflies which would fly around the whole room.

While Miss Filch’s display was something quite impressive—if not, perhaps, as extravagant as she might have hoped—Nikolai was left wondering just what it was Mr. Allwright had attempted to do in the first place. “The round goes to Miss Filch,” the Russian informed the pair without hesitation. “And so we enter a tie-breaking round. Miss Filch, if you would begin.” Timothy rolled a 3, Rommy a 4

Rommy had to do something really big if she wanted to win this duel. It was either her or Allwright now and Professor Sleptov would choose the one who used the best spell.
It was hard to think of a spell, though. She finally decided to do something simple. If everything worked right the buttons of her dress would turn into beetles.
