Plot Idea

So. Daniel doesn't necessarily like Mr. Potter, the Minister, and he's looking for reasons that Darcy wouldn't get re-elected (whenever that happens? :P) because he would rather hand-pick some candidate that is more predictable / more similar to Daniel / etc. Also, he just doesn't like Darcy. So the idea, I suppose, is some sort of smear campaign against the Minister... the tricky thing is that of course, Daniel Riley does not want his name on any of this, so whoever is participating would have to be doing so sort of under-the-table?

I'm still fuzzy on details, but I'm thinking perhaps pamphlets regarding the poor choices the Minister has made, some rumor-mill type stuff for those who can't or don't read, possibly rumors of impeachment? Things like the scandal with his sister, his policies on foreign relations, and obviously, the Hogsmeade Trail / Draft would be targets.

Daniel's thinking is that if the people dislike Darcy and his policies and want change, he can pick out a candidate for the next elections who will be groomed to cater to the needs of the people, and will therefore beat Mr. Potter's butt out of the Minister's Office.

Timeline (IC and OOC)

Soon and continuing; I think generally I want Daniel to get more and more involved in this sort of thing over the next few months until something devious happens, which you'll all hear about later. >:]

Needed character types

Revolutionaries - Daniel is in this for purely selfish reasons, but I think the cause will fly more if we have some people trying to contribute who genuinely care about politics and want change. Possibly feminists who want to rally for the vote (which woudn't get into law for another twenty years, but we can dream) or rights, those who want more rights for the lower or working class, etc., etc.

The Affluent Unaffected - those, like Daniel, who don't really care about any of the things they'll be fighting for in the pamphlets or graffiti or such, but are willing to throw money at it, either because they dislike Darcy Potter, they like Daniel Riley or others involved, or just because they enjoy stirring things up.

The Street Team - a group, probably younger, who gets caught up in "revoluntionary" ideas and takes the ideas farther, probably including anti-Ministry graffiti and other such things. =] The possibilities are limitless!

The Establishment - anyone on Darcy's side who feels strongly enough about it that they would actually actively try to put an end to the rumors and smear. This could be by launching pro-Ministry propaganda, or by violently putting down rallies, or in any way. =]

Other Information

Still very much in development, but I'd like for this to be a big deal. =] So hopefully people get in to it! Other ideas along these lines are very welcome!

Joseph Browning, Ayumi Browning and of course, miss Eulalie Whitlock can be counted as the establishment. Leonard, Daniel's old friend will be on his soon to be son-in-law's side too.

Well Ursula falls into the Unaffected Affluent category though I doubt she'll be able to part with too much money seeing as Phineas kinda holds the purse strings and she'd want very secret participation. She would, however, be able to offer a considerable volume of dislike for Darcy.

Nero is a court scribe for the Wizengamot and very impressionable and naive. Do with him as you will if you want to use him.

Merry would probably make "Darcy sucks" graffitis just for the fun of it.

Of my characters who would actually involve themselves:

WILL could probably be swayed to Daniel's side with ease. I don't think he particularly respects Darcy, but doesn't aggressively dislike him, so do with that what you will.

LUCIUS would much rather see someone older and more experienced in the position, however he would only be involved if the potential "new Minister" was a pureblood. Since anything else is unacceptable.

DARCY is obviously a revolutionary.

None of my others are revolutionary enough :P

Gabriel is obviously against Darcy. He would like to be a new Minister. xD

If someone offer Oscarinne money for making mess on streets she would do it. Because she needs money.

Then Ivy is probably in as well.

Elsbeth is a prostitute, but she would definitely be one who was completely willing to spread rumors (she does come into contact with quite a few wealthy men) about Darcy. They have a history and she hates him. >.>;

Establishment: Yes, yes, yes. Daniel will be very sad if he has to fight against Leonard, but for the moment since Daniel Riley is not actually participating in any of this (at least so far as you know), they can still be friends.

Affluent: Daniel would totally support Gabriel running for Minister. He likes him. And Lucius and Ursula should, too, since he'd pureblood. =] So that takes care of that. Ideally Daniel would like to have Phineas on his side, too, but he can deal with just Ursula. And of course, everyone who is promoting the cause is 100% anonymous unless they choose to be otherwise.

Can Will and Daniel be members of the same gentleman's club, or some such? That would give Daniel some persuasive leeway. =]

Street Team: Daniel wouldn't personally give the orders, of course, it'd be more of a trickle-down thing, but he would totally pay to have rumors spread / damage done to spark things off. And if Oscarrine is getting paid I assume Merry will be getting paid as well. =] Like I said, Daniel wouldn't have any contact, especially not with Elsbeth, but the support is appreciated and rewarded. Of course, this will come under the guise of "nuturing young political minds" or some such, not "hey, I'll pay you to spread rumors about Darcy."

Revolutionaries: I wants them! We need someone (who isn't Darcy, =P ) to kick this off so that all the impressionable Neros (and a few of my younger characters) can be persuaded!

I have:

Hannah: Did somebody say the words cause damage and take down the establishment and women voting? Well, no, but Hannah wouldn't care. She'd definitely paint crap on walls for either side. Yay, eleven year olds!

Sophronia: While she really doesn't care, Roni likes to be in the loop, and would keep a close eye on things. She'd probably request a message to be sent up through the street urchins to the higher-ups to see if they'd be interested in informing her.

Juliet: Likes Daniel, and would have fun designing some very interesting feats of magic to get the word out.

Gabriel muse says that he is going to accuse Darcy (as soon as he come back from that god-damned trip) of:

• incompetence (snow storm, women in Hogsmeade trail)
• fraud (who knows what he was doing in India!)
• being immoral (Elsbeth might tell him xd)

And he totally likes the idea of him being the Minister. Minister Gabriel de Havilland. Sounds good. xD

I have an idea to tack on- what about a group that's neither against nor for either Darcy or Daniel? More like... a group of people fighting for certain rights and will support whomever they believe will best help move these forward? I suppose like Revolutionaries, but less extreme and they probably wouldn't come around until there's a clear second choice, other than Darcy.

To clarify, Daniel is not really associated with this. Very few people will know that he feels this way, and all of them will be powerful upper class citizens who also feel this way. So the two sides aren't "pro-Daniel" and "pro-Darcy;" they are Pro-Darcy or Anti-Darcy, Anti-Darcy being the side that the revolutionaries would fall on and the side Daniel falls on.

Juliet: She'd be more likely to hear about this all through Jules, since Daniel wouldn't approach her about it. Daniel Riley is "not involved" in this political business.

Sophronia: If she makes it known that she'd like to be involved, someone will involve her. Not Daniel, but someone. >:D

Hannah: Would probably hear about it through the other "street team" channels, and is welcome to paint to her heart's content!

Gabriel: Daniel agrees on all accounts. >:D

Darcy: D:
Ivy: MINISTER'S WIFEY? OKAY.

PANDORA ZANE is a very avid feminist, and would absolutely rally for women's suffrage. She would have no problem causing mayhem where necessary, though I do doubt she would be doing any graffiti. Do with her what you will.

GEMMA DEARBORN probably feels the same way inwardly, but I'm not sure that she would ultimately do much about it. She definitely believes women should have the vote, but going out of her way to show her loyalty to the cause would just have her mother on her case even more than usual; I'm thinking that where she can get away with it, she'll be donating as much money as she can get her hands on to offer.

FIAMMETTA ROSELLI is both affluent and a magnet for trouble; I definitely think that she would publicly back him (with, of course, a lot of money). Really, it's more because she likes to be seen as scandalous than any actual interest in politics; she doesn't care enough to want the vote, and she certainly doesn't want to lift a finger to help the impoverished.
