On careers.

Sometimes I think I'd make a good hit witch. It would be fun, entertaining, and it wouldn't require too many OWLs. Unfortunately, as an upstanding woman of the middle class, hit witch isn't exactly available to me.

I'd also like to be an interrogator for the Wizengamot, but that is, similarly, disallowed. (How unfortunate, because that is exactly the sort of thing I'd be good at!)

Healer or mediwitch could be entertaining, but I'm not in the NEWT classes for it and it would be up to my husband anyways.

I will need to publish papers on History and things instead. (I do rather enjoy history.) Perhaps Quidditch articles, as well; I understand it very well!

I just know I need to do something. I can't sit around all day. I would go mad.

A sixth year boy in my Potions class agreed to help me. The plan is:

1. Cassie brews antidote to poison. This should take several days of subterfuge, as I will have to use the bathrooms in secret to do it.

2. Cassie & boy (I'm keeping him a secret for in-case-it-goes-wrong-and-someone-goes-through-my-things purposes) go to potions.

3. Cassie screws up potion on purpose and "tests" a bit of it. Cassie starts asphyxiating.

4. Boy, who has a vial of the antidote, force-feeds it to Cassie.

5. Father, reflecting on how this boy saved my life, ends my betrothal.

6. I am free to choose my own, thank you very much!

See? Can't possibly go wrong. I hope.
