Dark of features, like the rest of his family, Claude does not differ in looks. He has deep green eyes, something he does not share with all of his family members. His hair is a deep, rich brown that appears almost black in most lights except the bright sunshine. With a fair complexion, his dark features stand out even more. With heavy eyebrows, a sturdy jaw and some very typical stubble to round out his relatively handsome facial features, Claude also has a fair amount of scars from his ministry job as an unspeakable. While not entirely popular in proper Victorian society, Claude also has a number of tattoos over his body. Very, very few a visible when he is fully dressed. Some he’s gotten to cover up or mask his various scar, and others mostly because he’s become a little addicted to the process.
When not at work, he is dressed impeccably, but very plainly. He does not want to stand out in any way most of the time, so he wears nice dress shirts, suits and robes when necessary. Naturally right-handed, his job requires him to be ambidextrous and it came quite easily in training. It also requires him to be quite fit, which makes him look healthy for his 5’ 10” frame.
History: First born of Lucius Lestrange and his wife, Claudius was an only child for near six years before his sister Valeria was born. Having a sibling born so long after himself left him with mixed feelings. While he enjoyed being an only child and all of the lavish affection of his parents, Claude was more than happy to have a sibling to occupy his time. Naturally, a six year age gap in which your next sibling was a sister made spending time together a little difficult, but Claude never felt anything but love for his sister and the ensuing siblings they would also gain.
In the gap between the births of Cassius and Cornelia, Claude displayed his first sign of magic. Valeria was toddling about at the time, near the edge of a short flight of stairs and the nanny turned her head for a split second. Claude watched his little sister topple off the top stair and managed to conjure a feather-soft pillow to catch her. He had always been naturally protective, so it didn’t come as much of a surprise. Upon receipt of his Hogwarts letter, he eagerly looked forward to starting his studies.
A naturally inquisitive and inquiring young mind, Claude was often full of questions. Unfortunately a talkative youngster did not make for desired company among adults and after many dismissals; Claude finally gave up on asking and tried investigating for himself. Their extensive library in the Lestrange household contained thousands of books on various subject matters though leaned heavily on the darker arts. Claude however, instead of being consumed with the dark arts, like some of his relatives, found himself more curious about how to recognize and eventually prevent dark magic.
His entrance to Hogwarts began by being sorted into Ravenclaw. While Ravenclaw was not nearly as snubbed as Hufflepuff and Gryffindor by his family members, it was not as revered as Slytherin either. Torn between feeling like he was a disappointment and relieved that he finally had something to himself, Claude went with the Sorting Hat’s decision easily and found himself surrounded by people who were quite a lot like him. His time at school was marked by very good grades, especially in Defense Against the Dark Arts and Transfiguration, both of which he received OWLs and NEWTs in. Claude studied a variety of things in school, adding Ancient Runes, Care of Magical Creatures and Muggle Studies to his course load in third year. He continued on with those courses up through the NEWT level and scored very well before graduation, well enough to be accepted into the Ministry for training. Claude was naturally a distant person with his peers, well aware of the stigma of both his classmates and family and the prejudices they had against one another. Many of his classmates thought him to be a typical Lestrange, cold and cruel, and his family members do not want him associating with people in the middle or lower class, or those who are not from a pureblood family.
After graduation Claude was accepted, one of less than five, into a special training at the ministry. He had taken no exams for the training nor really knew what he was getting into, but his natural curiosity led him to accept the invitation. Little did he know that his head of house had submitted his name for consideration. Apparently his grades and collected personality were what the ministry was looking for in this particular position.
The next two years were consumed with a more intense kind of training and additional schooling than he could have ever imagined. Of course he isn’t allowed to speak of it and was away from his family for a majority of the time, but once he had passed everything he had needed to, Claude came out on the other side, an Unspeakable for the Department of Mysteries, a position he has held now for close to two years, though hardly anybody knows this. Most people simply know that he works for the ministry and he tends to keep it that way. It leaves his personal and social life in shambles, but Claude enjoys his work and does very well for himse,f having a place of his own and he wouldn’t change anything about his life at this point.
Personality: Upon first glance, Claude seems coolly indifferent to the world. Some times he is; he refuses to be pulled into the nonsensical world of the upper class and their frivolous parties, etc. However, if you are awarded the privilege to get to know him, Claude is more calmly calculating and quietly observant than completely apathetic. Intuitive when it comes to people, Claude sees much more than the people around him give him credit for. Everything he absorbs helps him survive his job, which he is very private about. Claude is private about most things in his life, choosing to focus on the positives things in the world, rather than all of the scary, disheartening things he sees while at work. This causes a rather dry sense of humor to him and if he is coaxed into a couple of drinks, he’ll often share his melancholic views on the world.
He cares deeply for his family, though rarely expresses those feelings. He isn’t particularly close to any of his family members, having several years on all of his siblings, but he’s proud of them and tries to be there for him. Clause has always felt responsible for his siblings and tries to treat them like the young adults that they have become. He is secretly glad that none of them are very close; he feels that if something were to happen to him while at work, the family would not take it quite as hard. That being said, in addition to being private, he is relatively reclusive as well, choosing not to socialize too much. On one hand, he doesn’t want to entangle himself in any social affairs that could create relationships and two, the more unknown he is; the better he can do his job. Being and unspeakable is rather lonely.
