I wanted to bring this thought/topic (whatever you want to call it) to light because it has been bugging me for quite some time. I have begun to notice the massive surplus of "pure blood" characters on this site. And I am curious to know how many pure bloods we have in relation to half bloods, and muggleborns.
I thought I could just keep this thought to myself, but why not share it?
I wonder how many pure bloods could actually exist in the HP universe at this point in time. I personally have no idea and have seen no information on HP pure blood info. Let me know if any of you have any information to enlighten me :D

I feel like one of the sites I was on in the past had a surplus of purebloods, and they asked that any new pureblood characters go take a gander at a family tree network like the one we have on TribalPages and make themselves inter-related with other purebloods. That way it stayed semi-cannon, since all the new purebloods were related to existing purebloods.
The downside to that is that it would probably discourage new members from making pureblood characters, as it would be difficult to track down who, exactly, you needed to ask unless you knew the site and its members pretty well. Unless there was a thread or some sort where relation inquiries could be posted.

When I write Harry Potter fanfiction I usually use This site to keep myself true to form despite the fact that the information doesn't include information from books six and seven.
The ratios they give are 20:40:40 [Muggleborn: Halfblood: Pureblood]
It's a great idea, Dustin! The trouble is - we have almost 300 characters right now. It would be really difficult to sort through 300 apps just to count blood statuses. It also doesn't play an important role in the game, which is why we haven't featured it. If there were blood wars as or plot or something like that, I would have added that kind of information to the census. ^^

I am rather new to the site so the perspective below is of someone who is new to the site and has been on many other sites.
I'd like to mention as a new member taking on a character that is on the tree of an an existing family is something I personally avoid as if you play the character different than others desire it sometimes can create drama that as a new member I like to avoid. Since if one takes on a pureblood, one often is expected to have a personality others imagined for the character. Which could limit the personalities of purebloods who join the site, and make purebloods probably end up with the system the canon claims have.
Another thing to consider is how many purebloods are truly purebloods. (How many generations pure are we calling purebloods). I'd imagine that records are often not kept (especially in the lower classes) so many of them are probably halfbloods technically.
Also some families (characters) may say they are pureblood and setting something up like this may cause any plots where people are pretending to be purebloods to fall through.

Technically, records are kept because of the "magical quill" which writes down all of the names of the magical children when they are born. I would assume that this quill would have the records, which the quill resides at Hogwarts (and probably one at the Ministry too).
And according to Ari, three generations are required to call oneself a pureblood.
Leander Wilkinson and Jesse Hatchitt are not included because their profiles had the field for blood status removed. I suppose we could file them under "unknown" and bump that total up to seven.
Non-human or vampire characters were not included for obvious reasons.
So in order to reach the 40-40-20 ratio Ari mentioned, we would need: no new purebloods, 46 new halfbloods, and 33 new muggleborns.
Also, my inner Slytherin came out a bit when I was tallying... my three categories were "pure," "half," and "mud."

Ah... the joy of NPC's...besides the 20:40:40 ratio is for the 1990's so perhaps less interbreeding had occured and there's a skew in the pureblooded direction.
