Appearance: Ada does not maintain an obsession with her appearance, but she is definitely aware of her beauty and exotic features. Her dirty-blond hair is usually arranged in some kind of fashionable hairstyle. She cannot abide displaying the same appearance for over weeks at a time. Ada’s orbs are big and crystal blue, and has a tendency to stand out whenever she appears excited or happy. Ada resembles her mother in almost every prospect except her figure. Surprisingly Ada is particularly small for her age, but she is not concerned about it as other women would have been. Ada’s apparel mostly consists of bright colors with patterns on them. Since she was a young girl patterns and pearls were her guilty pleasures. She adores the expensive dresses she receives from her father as little gifts. Ada’s wand arm is her right.
History:
During the stifling summer of months of 1863, the second daughter and third child to Nicholas and Perenelle Flamel was brought into the world. This newborn babe was christened Adamina Perenelle-Marie Flamel. The young girl had been doted on constantly by her mother, father and elder siblings. Ada, a preferred nickname of her mother’s, had a stronger bond with her older sister rather than her brothers. She loved and respected her brothers immensely, but nothing compared to the strong, sibling bond between herself and Theodora. Though at certain times Ada often found her sister a little too protective and overbearing, but this fact did not make Ada love Dora any less.
During the first two before the Flamels’ resituated themselves in England, Ada had been continuously spoiled and was never in want for anything. Ada hardly expected the small gifts and presents her father would bestow upon her, but she found that she rather enjoyed possessing pretty dresses, shoes, toys, and such. Ada was rather much closer to her mother than she was her father, despite Nicholas spoiling his youngest daughter. Ada would often pout when her mother would have to leave her in the care of her siblings and the nanny. Ada’s strong bond and clinginess to her mother prevented her from joining in any such play-group while her family was residing in the Eastern region of the world.
Once her family had resettled in England, Ada was able to release the clinginess she had to her mother (a new son had been born and Ada was left to her own devices while her mother tended to the baby) and interact with the other children of her age. Her closest friend and confidante (besides Teddy) was a young, muggle girl referred to as Cherry. Cherry Key had long, flowing carrot-hued hair and large, cinnamon-brown eyes. With their features so divergent from one another, most have often commented that the girls were viewed as an odd pair. Cherry was a bit of a troublemaker. Given this actuality, Cherry had framed Ada more than once for her atrocious behavior and Ada was too young to realize this and defend herself. Cherry’s behavior continued to deteriorate further when as the months progressed. It was fortunate, however, that Teddt had been observant of her younger sister’s distortional friendship with the troublesome girl and was the first to realize that Ada never committed any of the crimes she had been accused of. It was during this trying time in her life when she began to think that her parents did not care for her because they punished her enough times to complete her seven years at Hogwarts, but she was proven wrong once Cherry’s motivations were revealed and she was granted with more pretty things from her father to make up for his behavior towards her. For the first time, Ada had learned a valuable lesson: to not let others control her life and for her to defend herself when the need has arisen for it. Even from this young age she has learned this lesson. A lesson that would alter her life if she chose.
Ada was then released from her friendship with Cherry and put into other playgroups. This gave Ada another valuable lesson: choose your friends wisely. Taking her own advice has made her life a little brighter and Ada began to create bonds with the other trustworthy girls of her neighborhood.
After Ada’s third birthday, the Flamels’ resituated to Quebec, Canada. Ada was too young to remember living in Quebec, but she remembered becoming attached to a boy of seven. The boy was civil and friendly towards her but often thought of her as an irritating sister. He often barked at her to leave him be, but would eventually grant her with small treats to atone for his behavior. She was a three-year-old, after all. But just when Ada was about to befriend a young girl a year older than herself, her family had packed their belongings and traveled to Rio de Janiero.
In Rio, Ada turned four and has learnt to appreciate the blistering heat and the hot summer sun. She was fond of the breezy house she and her family lived in. Despite appreciating her surroundings, Ada was unable to connect with some of the children there. They seemed to think her that she had a high opinion of herself and often avoided her when possible. So Ada amused herself by seeking a playmate in her one-year-old brother. She missed her older siblings dearly; especially Teddy. Not to mention that Teddy began her lessons with her governess and has found a sort of consolation in the world of books. To escape her loneliness, Ada would read through a book and imagine that her life was filled with laughter and friends. Soon after her siblings’ return to Hogwarts after the Christmas Holidays, Ada’s family removed themselves to East London, South Africa. This move was something Ada does not regret or look back on fondly (if she can remember it).
Having gotten used to the solitude, Ada was a bit shy in attempting to make friends. Even though her family has moved around during her childhood, Ada never gave up the dream of befriending others. Ada, having had a bit of prodding and encouragement from the other children, which she found surprisingly agreeable, began to bloom into her personality. She had discovered that she had a fun-loving, witty personality. Not to mention that she began to become closer to her father which resulted her getting gifts and whatever her heart may desire. Ada began to realize that her father was more than just a benefactor of her pretty dresses and amusements. She discovered that he had a big heart and an immense love for his family; the same qualities Ada possessed. Besides her becoming closer to her father, if it was not Teddy she goes to for advice, it was her mother.
The Flamels’ remained in Rio de Janiero for over a year and a half before the removed to Casablanca, Morocco. Ada had put up a tremendous fight to remain in Rio de Janiero because she finally had friends, but since she was only five (almost six), she had no choice but to follow her parents wherever they went. Once in Casablanca, Ada had pouted for the majority of the year they stayed there, but had finally been told that her pouting was getting her nowhere so she might as well get over the idea that they were going to move back to Rio de Janiero in a heartbeat. Considering this fact, Ada (now six) gathered up her courage and spoke to the nearby children in the neighborhood. This resulted in a disaster because Ada had committed her first act of magic due to her nervousness in approaching them. Her accidental magic caused the boys to be pelted with mangoes from a mango tree up above them. The boys were unsuspecting of the mango incident being done, all except for one. “Witch!,” he accused her before his buddies began to chant as well. Frightened, Ada hurried back home and went back to her solitary ways after that. Ada’s youngest brother was born in Rio de Janiero.
After the Summer Holiday of 1872 summer months brought the Flamels’ to Drammen, Norway during the autumn and winter months. Ada (now seven), found this move particularly welcoming. She never mentioned her first act of magic to her parents or Teddy. She was afraid that she would get the same reaction from them as she has from the boys. In Ada’s opinion, the autumn and winter months spent in Norway was only an extended vacation so she did not bother to make friends there.
In the spring months of 1873, the Flamels’ removed themselves to Rome, Italy. Ada decided that Rome was a good place as any to make friends. The ancient buildings, the history that seemed unflagging in her memory… Ada was completely in love with the city and its enthralling beauty. Apparently her parents were, as well, because of how long they seemed to stay. Even after her sister’s Coming-Out Ball, they remained in Italy for another year and a half. During this time, Ada(now 9 and a half) began to improve her writing skills and take up a pen pal back in South Africa. The young girl was six, orphaned, and poor. Ada’s heart went out to this less fortunate girl and boxes of clothes and writing supplies were sent in parcels.
While traveling to Germany, Ada turned age ten in 1875. While in Berlin, Germany, Ada was the same person as she was as ever. She socialized, read books, was attentive in her lessons with her governess, and had become closer to her younger brother. It was at this age that Ada began to really appreciate the travelling her family has done. Not only was she intellectually advanced in history (both wizarding and muggle), but she also became fluent in Italian, French (Ada had begged her governess to teach her once she learned that Teddy knew the French language), knew a bit of the Norwegian language, and very little African, Arabic, and German.
In July of 1876, Ada had acquired her acceptance letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The family did not remove themselves to England as they did for Theodora’s first year, but they did, however, travel with her to Hogsmeade by portkey. Ada was a bit ashamed to admit that she had cried when the time came to say farewells.
Ada entered her first year with an animated and awed nature. She was satisfied when the Sorting Hat announced her a loyal and hardworking member of the respectable house of Hufflepuff. Her first year consisted of befriending her classmates and exclaiming proudly that she was of the wealthy, Upper Class Flamels’. Theodora often reprimanded and recommended to her younger sister to not let their father’s respectable status get to her head. Ada knew that her older sister’s advice was precise, but she enjoyed the look of awe cross the students’ faces when they ask, “You’re a Flamel? You must have traveled everywhere!” Ada would just give that person a friendly smile and proceed to speak about all the places that she has been to. Ada returned to Berlin for the Christmas Holidays, but was sent to Vienna, Austria for the summer.
Ada’s third and second years were less exciting than her first. It was only in her second year that she began to study harder. She had felt triumphant when having heard that she was the third in her year to receive the top grades. Her studies did not prevent her from interacting with her friends, however. While Ada did not count herself as a socialite, she was pleasantly surprised when she was warmly greeted back by her friends in her third year Hogwarts. Ada was sent to Austria for winter and her family decided on a vacation to London for the Summer Holidays. Ada was pleasantly surprised (though to an extent) when she returned to Vienna for both holidays in her third year. Ada finally became fluent in the Austrian language that summer before her fourth year.
Nothing remotely interesting occurred in Ada’s fourth year except that her figure was rapidly changing. Over the summer, her mother had confirmed that it was time that she began to wear a corset. Unlike some other girls, Ada was not reluctant to use a corset because it meant that she was becoming a woman in her mother’s eyes. Not to mention that Ada was more than satisfied with how her figure appeared in a mirror when she overlooked herself. Ada spent her Christmas Holidays in Marseilles, France and was given permission to stay in Hogsmeade over the summer with a dear friend.
In Ada’s fifth year, she was approached by a boy by the name of Lucas Bennett. Mr. Bennett was a muscular, Upper Class, seventh-year Gryffindor whom became interested in Ada after he had danced with her at Hogwarts’s Annual Christmas Ball in her fourth year and he in his sixth. Ada was captivated by his charms and was constantly in his presence, either with or without a chaperone. Of course, Ada’s year of romance and moonlit strolls after curfew came a pause once Lucas had graduated. Ada had been appointed prefect for Hufflepuff, as well. Also, in the spring of 1880, a new Flamel daughter had been born. The new Flamel daughter had been born in Greece during Ada’s Holiday stay. She had been politely asked to spend the summer in Hogsmeade with that same friend and had gracefully declined the offer with the excuse (which really was the truth) that she had better spend the Summer Holidays with her family in America.
Now in her sixth year, Ada is awaiting her romantic interest’s letter informing her that she was still his in his heart and head. Little did she know that she was just a distraction for him until some other woman came along and stole Mr. Bennett’s heart.
