Appearance: She is a tall, willowy sort of woman, standing at 5'9" and having a very slender - but extremely feminine - figure. Her wide hips and exaggeratedly narrow waist enhances her natural Veela appeal. She has narrow, almond shaped startling blue eyes that have a sort of cat like quality to them. Her fingers are long and slender, as are most of her limbs. Her thin lips are heart shaped and pouty, and her nose is pronounced, long and slender. Her wand is most always tucked into her jacket or somewhere hidden, and when she has to use it, it is with her right hand. Her state of dress is somewhat extravagant as is befitting of an upper class woman like herself, but also somehow subdued. She usually dresses in very subtle patterns or plain colors.
History: Raised by Veelas Ferdinand Lavoie and Sylvie Lavoie, Marceline is an only child. Being Veela as she is she grew up very popular and showered in love. Her parents - though not cold - were never particularly affectionate which may contribute to Marceline's percieved cold demeanor. Growing up, she was very popular with other children and parents alike, something she'll attribute to her Veela charm though others beg to differ. She was a mild mannered child for the most part, but with the typical Veela temper that would often show itself.
She grew up wealthy in Paris, France, always given the latest toys and dressed in the finest gowns. At age three, she showed her first inclination for magic. While in her crib she somehow hit her retreating nanny with a magical force. Her parents were quite proud, siting their daughter special for showing signs of magic at such a young age. From that day forward, she would perform small magical tasks when angered or upset. Being that she is Veela and angering her is an easy task, the Lavoie's learned early on not to keep important heirlooms anywhere in Marceline's vicinity.
Having always enjoyed music, at age five she began to take up cello lessons. It was quickly apparent that Marceline was a gifted musician, as she quickly took to the instrument and impressed even her teachers with her skill. She seemed to have a natural affinity for string instruments, and a year later she also took up the harpsichord. Though cello remained her first love, she did very well with the harpsichord also, and at age ten she was considered a fairly accomplished cellist and harpist. The cello remained her favorite for the most part, but during times of distress she obviously favored the melancholy harp that she also loved. At age seven she began composing her own music.
She quickly became well known around France mostly as the protégée of Cesaire Gagne, her musical instructor. From the age of eight onward she was known to put on shows in Paris. Her shows were a popular thing for many people in Paris and neighboring regions, gaining her a sort of local fame. This caused a strain in her social life, but she was fine with that fact, loving music above all else.
Through her teenaged years, she was still a highly regarded musician. Though a group of girls in her neighborhood started a club of sorts called the Marceline haters. They hated her and were envious of her beauty and skill with music. At age fifteen she becomes an artists muse and poses for several paintings. They are highly praised works, holding the beautiful Marceline in many different situations. They are sold around France and she continues to pose for him until she is seventeen years old and has her coming out ball.
At her coming out ball, she is asked to dance by Paschal Chevalier. He is a fan of her music and the eye of every girl in her neighborhood. He is four years her senior, and she is quite taken by his charm. Just a week after her coming out ball he asks her father permission to court her. Her father and herself accept and they begin courting. They court for five months before he asks her father for her hand in marriage, to which he agrees. She is wed to him just two months after.
After being given a piano by Paschal upon their marriage, she immediately starts to learn the instrument further. However, it isn't long before Paschal starts to show his true colors. He proves to be a hateful, abusive man and forbids her to play music in his home. Because of this, her instruments are locked away and she is instead made to be a dutiful housewife. Fearful of the musch stronger wizard, she does as he says and endures his abuse.
Only four months into their marriage, Paschal begins hitting Marceline and performing the Cruciatus curse on her. Her bruises are hidden from society, and his mental, physical and sexual abuse is kept safely under lock and key. During their marriage he constantly tears down her self esteem, citing that the only reason anyone wants her is because of her Veela blood. He says that she is merely his object and as such has no opinions.
After thirteen months of marriage, they find out that Marceline is three months pregnant. In April of 1880 Joceline Antoinette Chevalier is born. Even after the birth of their beautiful child, Paschal is still an abusive monster. While he dotes on his daughter, as she looks every bit a Chevalier with just with blonde hair but his brown eyes, he continues to torture Marceline for the most minor of transgressions.
Shortly before her twentieth birthday, Paschal is killed on the job. Being an Auror as he was, no one ever suspected Marceline of anything. They were right to refrain as she had absolutely nothing to do with his death, no matter how much she had wished he would die. She was left his estate and riches, and wasted no time in relocating to Hogsmeade. Having been left enough money to live comfortably for a while, she has taken a home in Wellingtonshire and overall been a fairly reclusive tenant to the large home in which she dwells with her now one year old daughter. Since her husbands death, she has once more taken to learning the piano and is progressing slowly but surely.
Personality:She ended up playing differently than I imagined, so most of this is possibly inaccurate, I'm just too lazy to change it.Proper She is everything a proper young woman should be and generally mild mannered. She always sits perfectly still, speaks only when spoken to and never raises her voice. The nearly two years of abuse from Paschal has tamed her exponentially, though she was not so different even before him. You will never see her with a hair or thread out of place, and she is what you would call a perfectionist.
Perfectionist She has always been such. Everything she does must be done to the absolute best of her ability and if it isn't, she will re-do it until it is as close to perfect as possible. Whether it be her hair or her clothes or simply some household cleaning, everything she does must be flawless or she feels as though she has failed.
Uptight She is very rigid and - to be frank - uptight. She is always impeccably dressed and standing perfectly straight. She seems to not have very much sense of humor and is hardly seen really laughing. Though she knows how to put on a show, it is rare to really see her let loose. Especially after being married to Paschal.
Distant She is a bit distant from people, a thing caused by her love and obsession with her music and furthered by the isolation of Paschal and his abuse. Though she does not mean to, her distant air can make her seem cold and apathetic. She is neither of those things, but she is a bit distant. She will never initiate conversation with others but due to her Veela charm, she hardly ever has to.
Unimpressed She is very unimpressed, or apathetic, towards a lot of situations. In most cases she has no opinion in either direction which can add to her percieved attitude of thinking she is better than others. This is an untrue assumption to make about Marceline, she just prefers not to worry herself with things that do not directly involve her.
Confident In that she knows, logically, that she is a very gifted beautiful woman. She knows that she has every reason to be confident and always holds herself in a manner that just screams self assurance. The way she sees it is that, because of her natural Veela charm, people will most always like her.
Low Self-Esteem Because Paschal always attributed her appeal to her Veela charm, she has, in a sense, a low self image. She believes that it isn't her that is wonderful, but instead her Veela blood. At any rate, it is not something that hinders her too greatly as she chooses instead to ignore it rather than remember it.
Quick Tempered She inherited the classic Veela temper and is very quick to anger. After Paschals abuse, her first reaction was anger, but she quickly 'learned her place' as he would say. When she is angry she still doesn't raise her tone, but she does become very hostile and her tone gets more harsh. Once you rile her up it is hard to calm her, and so far the only thing known to work is her daughter or music.
Temperamental She is prone to mood swings fairly often. Though she'll hide them for the most part, it is very easy to affect her mood and cause it to change. Most of her mood swings alternate from content to angry, so it is safe to say she has a rather explosive temper.
Keen As in sharp, observant. Because she spent a lot of time alone, learning to perfect her trade, she has become very observant of her surroundings. She often knows when someone is approaching her and what it is they want just through her observational skills alone. She is sharp in the sense of being able to tell what it is that people want from her by observing their body language.
Intelligent She has always been a rather smart woman, and this is one thing that has not changed. She isn't bookish exactly though, just highly intelligent. She reads of things with musical relations and is often seen working on puzzles of various sorts.
Protective She is ferociously protective of hers and loved ones. Once she counts you among her loved ones, she will go to the end of the earth to protect you and can get very vicious when she feels her loved ones are threatened. Her daughter has brought this trait out in her.
Contradictory In the sense that she has many combatting traits about herself. On one hand, she is confident, but on the same note she has quite low self esteem at times. She has many traits that would seem to be complete opposites that embody themselves within her personality.
Prudish In the sexual meaning. She is very apprehensive of any sort of sexuality, after the abuse of her husband it scares her in a way. As such, even though she is said to look sensual, she is in fact very uncomfortable with most of the opposite sex and courtship seems very far into the future for her.
Unemotional In that she doesn't show emotions very well and doesn't know how to express herself. Her music is how she expresses herself completely, and as she is not very good with emotions on whole, it is not unusual to not realize how she feels about you. This is not to say that she has no emotions - she does, she just isn't quite sure what to do with them.
Critical She is very critical of others and the way things are done. If she sees that something is not done properly, then she will point it out. It isn't often that she fully respects someone because she has a tendency to judge flaws very harshly, especially in herself. This can make her seem rude oftentimes, but that is never her intention.
Touchy In that she is easily offended or scandalised. If she feels like she's been offended, she is likely to get angry and that is a thing you don't want to experience. Trying to correct her is likely to be something she finds offensive, as is hitting on her in a blunt fashion. She takes teasing jabs personally, even if they're just jokes. In short, you sort of need to walk on egg shells around her.
There is a lot to say on Marceline's personality, and while she isn't unpleasant or cold, she is not the most warm woman you'll ever meet. Also, being from France, she has a heavy accent and at times doesn't understand what someone is trying to say to her because English is her second language and she doesn't understand all the nuances and such of the language. She also doesn't much understand the way minds or emotions work, and as such will often say or do things that make her come off as haughty or rude when it is never her intentions. When it comes to her daughter, she isn't exactly doting - as her family never was - but there is an obvious love there. She dearly loves her daughter, even though it hurts to look at her sometimes because she so resembles Paschal. Sample Roleplay Post: Non!

About Marceline | Read her Diary  |SET BY MJ<3| Since an article during the last days of December 1882, Marceline was revealed as being a full veela by transforming after an altercation between her and a man that resulted in his death by a man she was accompanied by. Because of the incident, she has been painted in a bad light and suggested to have been toying with the men and pitting them against one another. While this is untrue, it is likely that your character wants nothing to do with her.
