Appearance: Declan looks like a typical thirdteen year old who was raised in the slums. He is scrawny and small for his age, at a mere 5'2" and 110 lbs. Most of the time he is covered in dirt, as it isn't often that he bathes nor does he ever bother to keep clean. His skin is of an olive complexion, with only a few brown freckles here and there. With high cheek bones and a somewhat rounded face, he appears younger than he really is. His hair is a dark chocolate color that is thick and cut rather messily with what looks like a blunt edged knife. His brows are the same dark color, overhanging blue-green eyes framed by dark lashes. His wand is most often carried in his right hand and hardly ever leaves it. Declan's clothing is always second-hand, with rips and tears and completely ill-fitting. They are usually thrown out by the upper and middle class citizens, of which his mother finds and tries to fix for him. However, she is a laundress and not a seamstress, and the clothes are often in no better of a shape than before. There is always dirt underneath his fingernails and a mischievous look about him that reeks of trouble.

History: Max and Rosa Wood were childhood friends. They had grown up together and were married once the news of Rosa's pregnancy was apparent. They were young at only seventeen and sixteen, but they did what they could. Max was completely unaware of Rosa being a witch until their first child, Declan, was old enough to first begin emitting signs of magic. Max would drink too much every night, and every night he would beat Rosa. When Declan was five, he witnessed one of these beatings. He'd gotten so upset over it that every glass object in the room shattered. Rosa was forced to explain this, which stopped the beatings all together since it terrified Max, who was a superstitious man. When Declan was six, his father lost his job working at a factory. In order to make ends meet, his mother would do the laundry for the upper and middle class families. She'd take him with her, as she had no one to keep an eye on him. After listening to his parents argue about their lack of finances (and watching his mother repeatedly pull out her wand for their safety), he began to steal from his mother's clients. Rosa never once asked Declan where he managed to find such things. His father was rather proud of him for it and would tell him, 'There's a good lad.' The relationship between his parents deteriorated as time went on. Four more children were born to the couple - all girls - while their finances did not improve. Max had become a drunkard and no longer searched for work. He was happy to allow his wife and kids earn their living allowances by any means. When he sent Maxine, who had been six at the time, out in search of a gentleman who might 'delight' in her, Rosa had had enough. She gathered up all of her children and left Max without a word, despite being pregnant with their sixth child. She took them all to Hogsmeade, where she did the same job as before. Declan continued to thieve and trained his younger sisters, Maxine and Cleo, to do the same. Together, the trio helped their mother by switching off on babysitting the three younger children and stealing food for the dinner table. The Hogwarts letter came on Declan's eleventh birthday. Though he did not know how to read or write, he knew what it meant. His mother had told him all about Hogwarts and how she hoped his letter would come. The representative from the school came along as well, and explained to them that Declan would be allowed to attend on a scholarship. The boy didn't want to go, as he worried for his mother and sisters, but Rosa pushed him into attending. He was sorted into Slytherin. His graces are poor; however, he is a fast learner and the teachers see potential in him, if only he keeps at it.

Personality: Declan is often blunt and cold. He deflects negativity around him by saying negative things himself. He's had a hard life despite his young age, and often his common sense is confused for wisdom. He angers quickly and has a mean temper, but he also has a small playful streak that is often made known by teasing. Quiet and calculating, the boy often studies situations in order to figure out how they might benefit him the most. He has a soft spot for girls, since they remind him of his sisters, though he'll be ruthless to grown men or any other boys his age. Due to his upbringing, the boy's morals are not the best nor is his language.
